Russ, as a South African, that encounter would have ended insanely badly 9/10 times. Lots of people get stabbed and/or murdered for their valuables in those areas. Him carrying a weapon means that he probably had the intention to stab you - this is really common! I just think it's crazy that you don't have support crew with you at all times. Just always hand over your stuff if you do get robbed - that's the most important thing. Hopefully you realize how dangerous this is. In rural Africa, murder and crime is incredibly common because perpetrators never get caught. All the best Russ - keep safe!

Great episode! Good job with adding more of the map into this. I would spend even more time on the map and b-roll. Really explain to the viewer what kind of terrain you guys are passing through, what you're seeing, how far it is to the border, etc. That helps us feel like we're there and keep track of your progress.

YES to this!! 🙌🏻 Paired with a few more detailed views of the landscape or even some facts about the country, like what’s different in Namibia to South Africa, what is the biggest challenge there, what’s the population, are you passing any bigger cities, what does the route look like in the following days (not just a map but also pictures), where are you facing problems etc. Those things would be really interesting to make every video more distinctive from each other. Even if it’s only a desert for several weeks - you could focus on that, show everyone why it’s so hard for Russ, how big the desert actually is (how many times would London fit into it)… It would be like we’re learning a lot about the continent as well as following your journey.

I mean this with the full sincerity as a fan, please wear a body cam and film some of the actual run. The series really has boiled down to "hi Russ, bye russ" and Van Boys banter. All it needs is 5 mins of first person to the camera on the road about how things are going in the moment to really turn this into a top level series.

I’ve been saying this on each of the African videos and they don’t seem to care which is shocking seeing as this series is meant to be about Russ running. They say there’ll be a documentary after they’ve finished which will show more running clips, but Russ doesn’t even have a GoPro strapped to him so it’s clearly going to be bullshit sadly.

I am still absolutely thrilled about the idea and the incredible effort of this endeavor. What I would really appreciate is more focus on the running and this particular part of the adventure itself. Mostly we see you starting and arriving and in between dudes in a van. The clickbait of the thumbs always suggest so much more of the incredible endurance of the runnig itself. I would expect, that this might be one of the reasons why there is so little uptake of the series. What I also don't understand how you are raising money for charity when you are running out of cash yourself.

This was for sure the best episode so far. I do have to also slightly disagree with some comments on the previous video especially that were complaining not having enough footage of just Russ running. Not sure if they fully understand the actual reality of how massive this undertaking is and how long this series will be. When you're running an average of 50km a day in a desert for weeks, there probably isn't that much interesting happening or even going through your head most of the time. For sure when something does happen, like the ankle in this episode, it's nice to really hear some of Russ' feelings about it but that doesn't mean you have to force it into every episode. Also, for me the logistical and behind the scenes footage is what's interesting, as at least there's variety and a ton of things you guys have to do to make any of this possible for Russ. Additionally, as an editor myself, I fully believe the amount of footage you probably have to shift through to make interesting videos on time already is surely insane, so adding even more of extra footage of nothing but running would be hell to edit.
