I think it is a good decision to focus on noise normalized results rather than OC results. The cooler is not as random as the OC can be. If it is a model specifically for OC though like an unlocked card like the Kingpin then of course it needs to be looked at.

For the 5700 XT, the reference clocks hover in the 1750-1850 Mhz range. Most 3rd party cards hover in the 1980 Mhz range though, so they're all "overclocked" so to speak. And I did ended up underclocking and undervolting my card, because why not? It ended up being around 1930 Mhz anyway. Same performance at less temps, power used and noise.

One way to include some OC results, would be to only show the average or median OC of all the available cards as well as the best and worst (without naming them). If using the median it would also mean that very poor or very good cards won't have an effect on the result. That would be interesting to compare with 3060's and 3070s (OC'ed as well) to get and estimate of the potential for overclocking. A minimum of 3-4 cards should likely be used before providing any OC results still.

I think it's useful to have a range of overclocking results, just to give an idea of the range of what different 6700 XTs are capable of (while understanding that each of the cards tested aren't necessarily representative of all cards of that model), though I understand how it can cause confusion, so it may be better overall to not bother with specific overclocking tests.

Purchased the last 6700XT Hellhound that PCCG had in stock for $899 and had it delivered within 2 days. With a bit of undervolting & overcloking this thing now runs 5% faster than stock while consuming only 186W and GPU temp of 58 degrees (75 hot spot) at full load. Considering that the RTX2060 sells for $750, RTX3060 for $1000, and the 3070 for $1500, the 6700XT for around $900 is without doubt the most sensible choice under the current market!

Steve, your comments about using noise normalized results instead of OC make perfect sense to me. I have a PNY GTX 1080 with an utter crap cooler but great GPU and memory silicon, and which can't keep them cool enough. It's like a 120-140W cooler on an 180W GPU. The silicon's happy enough to do over 2100 and the memory 12,000 which ofc clocks itself down to 2000 at 83°C under load. I prob should watercool it but instead I go 1923MHz @0.9V and 11,600 memory, using135W at about 70°C. Undervolt FTW with crap coolers.

with strix cards, you’re paying for better internals on the card for an OC, strix cards have usually 50w higher power limit than the next best card to it

3070 is faster than 6700xt. the end. 6700xt sits between 3060 ti and 3070. if you use dlss, even 3060 can beat 6700xt tho. im using 3080, which i had since release, paid 700 dollars and overclocked by 10%, best value ever.

@@lort6022 a little salty there buddy. And that's not true it really depends on games as well as what processor it's paired with as well as what resolution your playing at.

I have the asus tuf version of the card and I can't believe how quiet and cool it is, I think that the metal part of the cooler is identical. But I noticed that the tdp is just too low on my gpu on stock when going 100% gpu won't use more than 160w while running around 2500mhz, If I oc it to effective 2750+mhz (2850 in wattman) the tdp is still around 200-210w. Reported by the msi afterburner, amd overlay and hwinfo.

I feel like if they are pricing these models so much higher than base model cards they should be putting the very best binned silicon in them it seems a waste to use all the extra cooling and upgraded power delivery to run a middle of the road or bad binned chip.

you are clueless, there's pretty much no difference in performance among the cards. all are powerlimited and locked down.the cheapest custom card will be like 1% slower than the most expensive one. nothing new here. it was the same with turing. im using 3080 so i could not care less but what im saying is facts. you are stupid to pay top-price for a custom card. the most expensive 3070 will never come even close to even the cheapest 3080 and 3070 strix is almost 3080 price. stupid.

I have never bothered with upmarket partner boards... They all seem to perform the same, just some at slightly higher temps, which isn't a deal breaker, especially when they're often much much cheaper! I just ordered a reference 6700xt... It's an ex-mining card, hoping that it is still good as it was released only a year ago. (was only $300 USD)
