A lot of people who consider themselves hindu get upset with ISKCON because they cannot give up meat, alcohol, gambling and intoxication and chant 1728 Hare Krishna Maha Mantras daily. The standard is too strict so they find some way to criticize and drag ISKCON down so their situation does not look so bad. There are also miscreants and criminals in ISKCON like any society. Which society has no miscreants or criminals? Are they accepted? No they are put in prison to protect the society. ISKCON doesn't need all the people who are not serious about Krishna Consciousness but they are there as they are their in Christianity, Hinduism, Islam etc

I'm a devotee of Parmeshwar Shiva and his bhakti has helped me quit drugs, alcohol, meat and thoughts about illicit sex. I'm more sensitive towards my surroundings. I can't even kill a mosquito as Pashupatinath is another name of my aaradhya dev. He has guided me in one of my dreams to stay away from all kinds of sects, including Shaivite ones. He has just asked me to perform my duties as a son and to be immersed in my bhakti and never lose the ability of critical thinking. But according to Iskcon, I'm a mayavadi living in total ignorance! 😊 Why only Iskcon, even Shaivites often attack me and call me a fake devotee. Now I understand the relevance of that dream.

Yes it is very true iskcon certainly attracts a larger proportion of miscreants and hypocrites than most organisation's. By a big margin! This is partly because they appeal to down and out hurt vulnerable people and due to the ego plays within the power structure of its organisation. I'm an outsider who spent many years with iskcon friends but saw some very sick behaviors that those there chose to ignore and excuse despite it being brought to attention. It is definitely not a path I would choose myself to get closer to God whom I also call Krishna, Rama, etc....

I am a student of Dharma and I disagree with how they managed and psychologically manipulate young children and adults into believing the cultish behavior and traffic labor or working for them for free all in the name of religiousity. The Hare Krishna of today is also much more different from what their founder had originally planned and the political split as well as disorganized fractures is what made many leave Iskcon and actually join other non-abusive, non-cultish, non-pushy Hindu Dharma sects and groups. Many left Iskcon and join the Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj group which emphasis on bhakti and learning instead of pushing dogmas and injunctions by so-called gurus.

I empathise with Nitai for any unpleasant experiences he endured. Whatever service he has done to share Krishna with others is an eternal asset in his spiritual bank account. I have also had my tests, struggles, and karma to face, but I work at forgiveness because resentment causes cancer. The philosophy and character of the teacher who brought Krishna consciousness to the West, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, is impeccable. I have been a member of the Hare Krishna Movement for the past 45 years. I feel extremely fortunate to be accepted as a disciple of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, despite any injustices I feel I have endured. People bring their material conditioning and baggage with them into spiritual institùtions. We are meant to help one another and be there for one another as we try to progress and become purified of our conditioned nature.

I wonder if he has rejected Indian religion entirely or just the Hare Krishnas. Bhagavad Gita is an amazing scripture and there are many good translations representing traditions other than the Hare Krishnas.Vedanta is worth looking into in my view.

Everyone has their own way of finding the God. This is the basic thing we get from Krishna. ISKCON promotes the way they find the best to get the god but that is not the only one even if you do not believe in God, you can find God. Please read GITA and make your own path for finding the God. And the thing about guru is, a guru is not necessarily to be a person 'a human being' Anything which motivates in the right direction can be a guru. From a ant to moon or sun or a elephant. Even a stone teaches us something. How you see the world is totally depends on you. It is good and bad in the same time. Law of karma. You'll get what you saw. No one can escape from their karmas not even god. This is the fundamental thing.

Iskcon is not the only organization and for further investigation of this movement I recommend going to its roots, particularly context is needed of the whole of Vaishnavism, particularly Gaudiya Vaishnavism, its splits and factions, and how those evolved into modern day. The Hare Krishna experience is different for everyone, but more context and history is needed to fill the whole story and picture. Blessings to Nitai tho, I know it wasn’t easy.

Many still do not understand that after 1977 ISKCON was privatized when some folks claimed to be the new owners and successors. Since this was approved and no one objected to the court that the eleven men were not named as the heirs of Prabhupada's movement; the whole thing became legally binding in 1979. Since then, ISKCON's corporate strategy has been to not have anyone stay in the temples for long periods of time so that no right of residence arises. Paid temple staff, and permanently imported devotees from India, Africa, and South America with temporary employment contracts characterize the image of today's ISKCON entourage. The idea is that the imported devotees will quickly find jobs in the local labor market, live outside the temple, and bring money to the temple. This is in stark contrast to how Prabhupada managed the temple. The first act of the new owners was to throw out all Prabhupada disciples. So it can be said with certainty that Srila Prabhupada would never have joined such a movement himself. Prabhupada also never joined his guru's movement. Of course, this was no longer possible after 1936 because his godbrothers took over the temple for their business.

I wanted to ask you something; so do they recruit in layers? Like first in my university there's a musical meditation group, become friends with everyone they offer nice food there's community, then you go to the mantra house parties, more community vegan feasts, then you start going to the temple then you want to get involved, I felt like I had slipped into a racket. They also make a lot of passive aggressive snipes like, how many people are meditating the way this guy does? I got a bad feeling about the group over time.

Most cults operate this way. A person may be drawn in through a front, like a yoga class. Nothing 'culty' is obvious at this point. Later, the person is drawn deeper -- but a piece at a time. Once invested, the more outlandish aspects of the cult are revealed (such as Xenu in Scientology). But by that time the person is too involved to question critically.

I am practicing regulated bhakti yoga, also known as sadhana bhakti. The objective is to firmly establish oneself in a stage called brahma bhuta, a stage of calming indifference to bad or good, pleasure or pain, etc. A stage of seeing all living enteties in various life forms as eternally nonmaterial travelers in the biological machines called humans, dogs, birds or plants. It's possible to realize that. All kinds of fools and thugs, also dressed as priests, yogis or wise men will exploit various spiritual paths as much as they do corrupt posts of trust within organized social, governmental and similar arrangements. Most of the obsessed comments here are blasphemous and the culprits who uttered such will one day experience severe punishment for their audacities.

Krishna cult existed at least 700 BC in India and the followers of that cult were known as Bhagavatas...even a Greek envoy to the Indian kings named Heliodorus became a devotee of that cult around 300 BC... Christianism also started as a cult and later dispersed into many different sects as it is today...

Tapasya Tyaga if you research the historical roots of vaisnavism and their esoteric practices etc, you will be shocked to discover whom they are really worshipping..krishna is NOT the Heavenly Father that Christ Jesus revealed and recorded in the New Testament Bible. l myself was a former renounced fulltime initiated follower of vaisnavism for over 20 years...mid 1990s till September 2017. followed that lifestyle, rules and regulations, studied their vedic vaisnava scriptures such as bagavad gita, srimad bhagavatam, caitanya charitamrta etc etc. krishna is just masquerading as God and all the vaisnava scriptures are ultimately deceptive please do not be deceived and with a cool head test all things.

@@c.d.3230 your journey is from one extreme to the other...from one sect to the other...ISKCON philosophy and literature present Krishna as supreme and divine person who resides on a spiritual planet known as Krishnaloka... whereas in the Gita Krishna is just a manifestation of Brahman...you dont really know about the roots of Vaishnavism..otherwise you will have understood that Krishna is at the base of that religion...thats why he was presented as ultimate God or Brahmaan in the Gita...without Krishna there would have never been any Vaishnav religion..

The movement has several other movements inside but outwardly it says "ISKCON". Thats why Prabhupada spoke of a sinister movement within our society. When Srila Prabhupada came to Germany in 1969 he was immediately surrounded by Slavic Germans. These are East Europeans who migrated to Germany, Russians, Poles, Czechs, etc., etc. These folks were resolutely taking control of ISKCON Germany but worked for a different agenda. Their intention was to simply exploit the German devotees and after some time throw them out. Today ISKCON Germany is run by Russian devotees as if the German devotees are all nazis. The same might have been the case in the US. The ISKCON core in the US are all Russian Americans and Slavic Americans. They now have a policy of using the Hindus to run the US temples.

I've been a Hare Krishna for 16 years and my life continues to get better and better. ISKCON is Mahaprabhu's movement. The living entity gets what he deserves. Which type of Guru do you want? A Guru sent by Krishna or a Guru sent by Maya? This is because they berate our other gods and goddesses and have presented a doctored version of the Bhagwat Gita and Hinduism to the world. So basically, Iskcon has nothing to do with Hinduism. Its an evil cult which also has a history of child abuse and its very founder harbouring such convoluted thoughts against women, as rightly mentioned by you. They are basically wolves in sheeps clothing. If someone really wants to learn the true essence of Hinduism, try to read the teachings and philosophies of Adi Shankaracharya, Ramanujacharya, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Paramahansa Yogananda and Swami Mukundananda. As a Hindu, I advice everyone to just stay away from Iskcon.

Iskcon positions itself as a Vaishnav Sampradaya, right? Did you know that actual Vaishnavs consider Lord Vishnu as their isht dev, and don’t call Lord Shiva and other gods and goddesses as ‘’demi-gods’’? But you Iskconites are the first ones to hop in the line to be called Vaishnavs, dressing up and all that and start defaming and belittling other Gurus and other Sampradayas at the drop of a hat. Iskcon means International Society for Krishna Consciousness. So there’s nothing wrong in considering one’s isht dev as supreme. But in the process, is it okay to berate other gods and goddesses? Moreover, Iskcon claims that Lord Vishnu is an avatar of Shri Krishna. This is like distortion at the highest levels. Even kids know that Shri Krishna was Lord Vishnu's 8th avatar in the Dwapar Yug. Don’t you think this is spreading misinformation? As mentioned before, actual Vaishnav’s consider Lord Vishnu as their isht dev. So why does Iskcon position itself as a Vaishnav Sampradaya? They should rather just call themselves a Krishnaite Organisation. Don’t you think so? Iskcon propagates false narratives about Lord Shiva and Maa Durga and refer to them as mere ''servants'' of Shri Krishna. Ashish Arora, aka Amogh Lila in one of his YT videos posted 3 years ago (Shiv Tattva) openly tells people to quit Shiv bhakti and instead become Hari bhakts. He also claimed that ‘’Satyam Shivam Sundaram’’ is not meant for Lord Shiva but for Shri Krishna. Is this not trying to create divisions amongst devotees in India who consider other deities as their isht dev, thereby hurting their devotional sentiments to a great extent? Is this not spreading misinformation? In the same video, while narrating the particular incident of Mata Sati doubting the divinity of Shri Ram, i.e. when Mata Sati assumes the form of Mata Sita to test Shri Ram’s divinity and when Shri Ram recognizes who she truly was, Ashish Arora uses words like ‘’dhink chak’’ and ‘’make-up theek nahi lag raha kya’’ Even my building security guard and the Zomato delivery guys don't speak in such a manner when talking about gods and goddesses. As an Acharya, don’t you feel that one should have grace and dignity? Is this by any means ‘’Saatvik’’?

Also Srila Prabhupada is making a point about the lusty nature of women, and behaviour of a man with uncontrolled mind and senses. He is in no way condoning sexual violence which is sinful and destroys the harmony in society and focus for self realization. Being married to young girls in the 1800's 1900's didn't mean sexual acts. The young wife would cook for the young husband and he would work and take care. The relationship was based on service to one another and to God. Your understanding that marriage means the modern version which is based on animal attraction doesn't apply in what Srila Prabhupada is referencing. Hare Krishna Devotees should follow the legal laws wherever they are. Girls and Women should be protected from coming to harm in anyway so they also can make their lives successful. Child predators can't escape the laws of God though they may hide in Israel etc (They will accept anyone who can prove their heritage and don't extradite to the USA etc)

I'm, trying to become a Devottee I have a Guru I've found Shelter with they have saved me from so much suffering, when they found me I was on drugs heavily, and I was in so much emotional pain but they have saved, my sanity, I've learned in a past life regression I have been a warrior, a christian Monk, Buddhist monk, and a student who became a spiritual leader, so maybe you met a shitty Guru, and fell into some one claiming to be into Krishna Consciousness, but they did not make you work, if they did that is wrong, all religions want you to do service work I was in a Christian cult for two in that time I watched friends leave and die they would tell us they died because God tookhis hand off them for leaving.
