I'm South Asian. I love Apu. It annoys me how 259743th generation hipster Indian-Americans who grew up in middle-class households want to speak for all south Asian and south Asian Americans. Apu was a hardworking man who was responsible and cared for his children. Literally one of the only positive characters in The Simpsons besides maybe Ned. Racists will find a way to bully people no matter what is on TV or Movies...you really think that if Apu didn't exist, racism against Indians would magically disappear?

He was not taking Apu as racist. But the creators of Simpsons used the Apu character for their racist undertones, many of which went below the radar until Hari exposed them. This is similar to long running Black characters on TV and movies that were used for their punch lines (accent, clothing, roles, etc.). For example, look-up Jack Benny. Of course to be sensitive to such issues, you have to be literate and educated, which being Mexican yourself, could be reinforcing a typecast.

Hari Kondabolu is a very tongue in cheek, incisive, stand up comedian and I've taken it upon myself to be his PRO. You can't call him a terrible comedian just by watching ONE of his sketches. He has a comedy show on Netflix called 'Hari Kondabolu: Warn Your Relatives', wherein he deals with politics, racism, and his family life. His performance and sets are obviously better there as he has had time to build up to and around them, and establish himself with the audience. The points he makes in his show are unabashedly true. Give it a watch, he's amazing.

The Devil needs an advocate because that is how opinions evolve and mature. That is how you understand others: place yourself on their shoes, try to fight your own views. That is how "the devil" becomes just "the different". If someone decides to play The Devil's advocate and you think they're just being a contrarian jerk, it should be easy enough to destroy their advocacy.
