Harley 95 is the Twin Cam 88 Sleeper

The Twin Cam 88 with the 4 inch stroke is a real sleeper when converted over to a 95. Harley 95 kits are available right off the shelf and they are one the best upgrades out there for a Twin Cam 88. Cam swaps on the Twin Cam 88 add quite a bit but they still fall short of the 100 horsepower and torque mark. Adding a 95 conversion with the short stroke of the 88 makes for quick revving engine which puts you in the power torque faster and it's just plain fun to ride. You can bore your factory Twin Cam 88 cylinders to a 95, 97 or even a 98 but then you have to wait on machine shop turn around time. A right off the shelf Harley 95 kit is the quickest and easiest way to get your Twin Cam 88 some displacement and not break the bank while doing it.

Would you order a 95 kit off the shelf or opt to tear your bike down and wait for machine shop turn around?

I brought my bike into the my local bike shop it’s a 03 fatboy was a 88. First he did cams, tensioner air cleaner and a program. Was not enough pull for me so I dropped it back off and had him bore it out and do head work I want to say the bore n head work was just under a grand. Money well spent!!

I bought an 03 883 with plans to put a hammer 1275 kit in it which I bought a few months later when they had a sale. I would definitely buy another kit from hammer on a bigger bike. I'm all about the torque ,0-60 or 0-100 is where it's at im not interested in going over a hundred on a bike these days. I rode big bore sport bikes in my twenties like an idiot. More into cruising now with a few rips here and there

I will second the 95 is no slouch. I had one in a 2001 Ultra a few years ago, and after riding beside me (I was 2 up) a guy took in his new '14 Ultra for a stage 4 because he was so irritated at his bike. The 95's rock. Hands down.

It also depends on how you ride. For instance some guys enjoy a sporty ride; high revving, speed cornering, high speed lane changing etc. BUT I just like getting up to the speed limit quickly without a bunch of high revs. SO I love a high torque engine that can effortlessly shove my fat ass down the road.

The performance gain from the 510’s kick in at 3000 rpm’s. Or around 70 mph which is perfect for Highway cruising and passing. And that’s at half-throttle. I did this upgrade two years ago and it’s like having a new bike.

I just got a 2000 model carbureted Dyna FXDWG with 22,022 miles. The bike is in near perfect original condition. The Guy threw in 2 extra seats and Sissy bar pads. One is the original seat and Sissy bar/pad, a luggage rack, a new Front tire, tube and Rim band in the box. Also, He gave me the original exhaust, (it has Vance&Hines staggered Straight shots now), a new H-D brand bike cover, and a Service Manual. I think I got a pretty good deal. I plan to upgrade the Cams when it's time to replace the original Cam Chain Tensioner Shoes. Thanks for your videos and keep up the good work! I have one of these in a 2001 RK. It was installed when the bike was new. I bought the bike wrecked with 25k mile - it sounded like the valve train would fail at any moment. Since then I've installed Feuling cam plate and gear drive tw-6hg (same cam that was originally installed, shimmed the rocker arm end clearance to under 0.010. Finished it out with Reinhardt tru-dual and a Ness super sucker. Ii have not had it dyno'd but believe it is over 100 hp. I also am disappointed with my 2008 SE 110 with the same set up. It's nearly putting ou 101 hp and 109 Ft/lb.

I have a 06 Street Glide with the 95 kit with light weight/high compression pistons, an Andrews gear drive cam combo, polished and ported heads, stage 1 intake and PCIII tuner and it dyno tested at well over 100 hp and over 100 ft lbs torque. I can't remember the exact numbers but at almost 80k miles it is still running strong.

Cam should bring that down a bit . 125 psi on compression test with stock pistons right now . High rpm recommend forged . Well the new rage around here is electric bicycles. Bidenomics I guess with the gas prices I guess.😁 ✊🏻👍👌 thanks for the info 🙏 Not worried about sprocket bearing for hd when bigger and bigger with that same bearing . Fingers crossed 🤞-

I've watched this video a couple of times now and you have me seriously considering changing out my Andrews TW26 cams with the Wood TW6. I had the TW26 cams installed as part of a stage 2 upgrade, but I didn't go with a hydraulic cam chain tensioner because at 37,000 miles there didn't seem to be enough wear to bother. I now want to do a stage 3 big bore kit on my 2006 feul injected Road King and maybe do the Wood TW6 cams plus the hydraulic tensioner. 104HP and 116 ft lbs tq ain't nothing to sneeze at! I do like the TW26 cams though because they come in at 1800/2000 rpm and pull like hell to as fast as I'm will to go, but the dyno chart of the TW6 cams look like they kick in right at 2000 rpm as well.

A short stroke Twin as a Square Build ( 4x4 ) is a great engine for a light bike such as a Dyna or Softail riding locally. Without a doubt its a peppy engine and that 88in had the tried and true durable crank that was bolted together. But to say the bigger stroke engines are a bit slower to jump up and run as quickly isnt the case. The cams with compression dictate the peak torque and horsepower regardless of displacement. You smack the throttle on a big bore long stroke with a set of cams for torque. You better have a stout driveline to handle that level of power and have velcro on your seat, ass, gloves and grips. I have seen bike engines bang a 120ft pds of torque at 2200 rpms and carry that and more out in the upper rpms. I rode a 2002 Dyna Super Glide with a 95in stage 2 kit Mild head work with high lift springs, 48mm Mikuni Carb, Andrews TW54 set of cams and the original V&H Pro pipe. It was a great short ride bar hopper!!!
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 2 жыл бұрын
Big cams and hot compression will overcome a lot for sure, a 95 in a touring bike with a high torque cam works really well. With the 5 speed transmission it keep the motor right in that rpm range on the highway for great roll on passing.

@@GixxerFoo yes I don’t know if it’s as had big bore kit, 88 to a 95 , it is not running right, I have just rebuilt the HSR again with all new jets, as I couldn’t see the size of jets, so I have put the same size that was in my original engine, apart from taking the heads off I don’t think I could find out what size it is, someone has definitely been inside the primary side, as it has got some off the market seals inside, As I mentioned, it has had a set of S&S cams put in it, but it still got the original back plate, and I can’t quite see whether the oil pump has been changed, and the cams are get driven, I wished I’ve got indefinite funds to throw at it, as I would strip the whole engine down completely, I was hoping to have it back on the road by now, though saying that my weather is not very good, And hopefully I’ll catch up with you later tonight when you upload your next KZbin, France

Regarding S.E. parts, I'm biased against, because I feel The Motor Co. should have put bigger cams in from the start. Unless, they are limited, due to emmissions constraints, then I relent. Still, I'd rather look into Woods, Reaper, S&S, or similar for aftermarket goodies.

I wish i would have realized that cams made such a big difference before.. once i had a broken exhaust stud on a 88… i took it to a dealership who ended up having to take the head off to drill out the stud.. i was mad because taking the motor apart costs an extra $500 in labour and they didn’t tell me until after they already did it. But they could have upsold me some cams at the same time and turned a negative into a positive… just shows how lousy of salesmen they are…. I ended up selling the bike a few years later because i wanted a faster bike.. now im wishing i would have just upgraded it back then.
