Whenever you buy any used Harley your on your own. Oh I'm sorry you didn't buy that motorcycle here and it just rolled off the dealership floor 2 years ago we don't warranty that you need your tires changed we don't do that The Harley dealership doesn't do repairs they don't care about their customers. I buy and ride Harley-Davidson because it's easy to work on I mean look at the air filter change on a gold wing as far as customer service goes there is none forget Harley

Good Evening 🌅, GixxerFoo, obviously a very good idea, I have done it many many years ago, but from what I can gather in Europe, you soon will not be allowed to do this if the bike has been damaged, it’s going to be crushed so you cannot get or reserving your parts, Not sure whether you have read a comment I put into your posting of last week the other day , but there has been two more dealerships go bust in the UK, I believe they’re owned by the same company, from what was commented that they were being forced by HD to take in stock that they couldn’t sell, a very bad state of affairs, and of course the other big problem is import duty and tax and everything that is being put on new bikes come into the country whether it is or whether UK, I think I mentioned a month ago plus, that I had had carpal tunnel syndrome in my hands, I’ve had one hand done, a great result, I’ve now having the other one done at the end of the month, so hopefully by the summer time comes about to move the bike around and control it, without losing the feelings in my fingers and hands, keep up the great work, great territorial, regards from France,

Great video and provides food for thought. I like the idea of having a "spare" bike, but I don't have the extra storage space to accommodate one. This is not strictly a H-D problem, my neighbor has a Honda sport touring bike that he can no longer find parts for. Any chance of you making a video recommending parts we should secure as back-ups for bikes we're going to hold long-term? I would think electrical items would at the top of the list. Thank you Gixx!

"Twinkie B" motor is probably one of these motors worth buying used as they're basically a throw away motor. Most mom & pop places won't touch them for that very reason. HD won't either.... They knew what they were doing when they did away with the "REMAN" program.

I have done this. I won a 2007 built Santee frame pro street with a TP Pro evo motor and Arlen Ness trim for 900 dollars, after fees and shipping I paid 1400 buck for a near new TP Motor. When I got it home I replaced the triple tree, forks and wheel in front. I was into the bike for 3200 and sold it for 7500. I love working on bikes. Of course I burned a couple rear tires before I sold it. I would do it again for the right bike.

My best advice for someone looking to buy a new bike. Save money ahead of time in a bank CD or investment account to try to save up around 25k. Then, buy a good looking used bike for 9 or 10k. After that, strip the bike down completely and rebuild it from the frame up the way you want it with brand new parts from S&S. You will end up with a brand new bike that will last forever and will have left over money to play with. I did this with a 2009 Street Glide and I can see that bad boy out lasting a new 2025 model. I spent 15k all together for the bike and all the new parts including labor from my local mechanic shop.

First of all, NEVER buy a Harley with EFI. That is where you find most of those computer parts. That absolutely means nothing newer than 2006. But some Harleys had an older version of EFI long before that. Avoid them like the plague unless you are willing to spend the money and do the work to convert them to a carb. ANY Twin Cam CAN be converted to a carb. There are now aftermarket stand alone ignition systems that allow you to control the ignition without the original ECU that controlled both the EFI and ignition. But it is not cheap to do that, and I have to wonder if a Twin Cam engine is worth it, unless you are doing a complete rebuild with a lot of aftermarket internal parts. Not long ago, I would have said no. But things are changing. New, REAL Harley Davidson motorcycles are no longer available at any price. That includes anything with an M8. So if you want a REAL Harley, you have to either buy an EVO or older bike, which may need a lot of work, or seriously modify a Twin Cam. At least it can be done. Nothing can be done with an M8. And even if you don't have a problem riding it without the sound and feel a Harley is supposed to have, and can accept the fact that it is more computer than motorcycle, you STILL have to deal with the fact that it is disposable. You will not be able to keep it going forever. Computer parts will become unavailable, dealers won't work on bikes more than 10 years old, and independent Harley shops don't have the diagnostic equipment to work on them, even if the parts were available. I can get pretty much everything for my 1989 FXRS and 2002 Sportster 1200C. When I bought the Sportster, it had a wire spoke wheel and tube type tire in the front. I could write a book about all the misery and grief tube type tires have caused me over several decades. They have left me stranded, they have cost me a fortune in towing bills, motel bills, paying dealers huge amounts of $$$ to replace tires and tubes because of a simple flat, plus they have almost killed me a few times. So I knew I would be replacing that front wheel and tire with a 19" cast wheel and tubeless tire. I was somewhat shocked when I discovered just how much a nice tubeless front wheel cost, and how hard they were to find. I belong to a number of H-D forums online, and there are several problems that are starting to affect 2004 and newer Sportsters. They use a plastic oil tank, and they are staring to split at the seams and leak. H-D no longer sells them, and the aftermarket does not have them, at least not yet. That may change in the future. Despite being carbureted, they apparently do have some kind of computerized electronics on them. They have a throttle position sensor. They have an immobilizer, that is built into the CDI box. You can get that from the aftermarket, but it is not cheap. A new CDI box will cost you several hundred $$$. So spend some time on the forums researching whatever model you are thinking about buying, to see what kinds of problems they are likely to have, what parts might not be available, and just how much used or aftermarket parts are likely to cost. You can build an entire Harley Davidson motorcycle from aftermarket parts. That's what all those boutique companies were doing in the early 2000s. But buying a bike piece by piece is ridiculously expensive, plus you have to know how to put it together, and what works with what. I am considering an S&S motor for my '89 FXRS. The stock motor has never been apart, so it can be rebuilt, and an independent shop can do it. Either way it will be expensive. Haven't decided which way to go yet. Still runs ok, but has high miles, and I'm starting to worry about it leaving me stranded far from home.
