Having read the graphic novels. I’ve never seen an adaptation so perfect which I’m guessing is down to the fact that the author of the novels wrote the script and produced the show it feels so authentic and realistic and the fact the actors are 18-20 it’s so perfect xx

The show has more than paid it’s dues in an homage to its WEBTOON roots by not hiding that fact and actually making it a big form of their marketing. Alice, the author, was so heavily involved with the cast and crew and heavily consulted on everything. They got literally everything from Charlie’s backpack, all the way down to the shoes he and Nick wear. It’s the littlest details that make the biggest impact. I reread the books after watching the show and it is so closely followed concerning the story. They don’t deviate too far and it’s something that I’m sure a lot of people have appreciated. It’s pretty emotional, seeing characters in drawing just leap to life and become real people, they’ve captured everything so well and it made me cry because it was perfect representation. I love seeing people appreciate the show and such as much as I do.

I've watched this show 2 times and it's not enough. It's so good. Everyone is so well written, the interactions are gorgeous and such good role models for kids. I really hope this show gets more seasons. I've never seen a show that makes feel this way and shows such important interactions with queer people. A+ for representation. I was almost exactly the same...I am a bit older than you, so what affected me most is so unfortunate for us that we didn't have this positive content for queer people of my age. Closest thing was Beautiful Thing in 1996, but I was still too old (30 in 96) to appreciate it as a teen. I really love this so much though, and wish so much I could have had this show as a teen. Euros Lyn was the series director. He has directed many episodes of Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sherlock, Broadchurch etc. Alice Oseman was there as an Executive Producer and adviser on the show. She was there at nearly every scene to make sure the director got it right.

The boy who saved Charlie from Ben, his name is Nicholas Nelson but we call him Nick, and that’s what he is called throughout the rest of the show, I hope this helps, because he is a very important character and has a lot of development. At 10:21 - Nick invites Charlie to join the rugby team, in my view this was the first sign or a little spark of attraction Nick had to Charlie even in episode one. Nick wants to spend time with Charlie and since Charlie is in a year below him, he feels rugby is the only way he can get closer to Charlie.

Something I love about this that I haven't seen on any other reaction videos is that you somehow went in completely blind. You didn't even know the main couple. "Oh I hope Nick's not homophobic." "Hmm, Nick keeps giving Charlie these looks. IDK I think he might be queer." Did you not see any promo? Did you not...see the thumbnail on Netflix? I love it. I wish I could have gone in that blind. Also, (SPOILER FOR LATER EPISODES) @14:25 I think this right here gets down to the root of why I love the contrast between Nick and Ben. Nick was also in a place where he didn't feel comfortable coming out yet, but he does everything Ben doesn't. He loves spending time with Charlie. He loves talking to him and getting to know him. He goes out of his way to spend as much time as possible with him. He stands up for Charlie on multiple occasions. He feels guilty about being closeted, purely because he doesn't want to make Charlie feel like a dirty secret. Perhaps most importantly, he's unashamed to be seen with the The Gay Kid, even when others try to shame or bully him. I love that Alice added the scene with Ben pretending not to know Charlie (it wasn't in the comic), because the relationship between Nick and Charlie LITERALLY starts out with them being acquaintances who say hi to each other in the hallway.
