Not sure if it was mentioned (didn't have time to watch the entire hour, but): In Chamber of Secrets, it's revealed that when the chamber was first opened, authorities originally concluded that Hagrid was the culprit and carried out the attacks using his pet spider, Aragog - and he is later arrested and sent to Azkaban for the reopening of the chamber and the subsequent attacks. However patently obvious that a spider could not possibly have been the monster who killed Myrtle and petrified the other victims *(including* Nearly Headless Nick) because the only way a spider could do so is through biting, and *not only* are there no bite marks on *any* of the victims, but - as mentioned regarding Nearly Headless Nick - one of the victims was a *ghost,* whom it is not physically possible to even bite a ghost! It already makes zero sense to blame Hagrid for the death of Myrtle (again, when there are no bite marks, and - as mentioned in the video - given the fact that they could just ask her ghost "was it an acromantula who bit you and killed you?"), but given the new evidence of the new victims after the chamber has been reopened (and especially after Nearly Headless Nick is attacked), it's patently obvious they were dead wrong the first time and it wasn't Hagrid or his pet spider and never possibly could've been! Truly abysmal investigative work! But, then again, we also saw how bad they handled Sirius Black's case and wrongfully sent him to prison for 12 years, so that also *kinda* checks out!

When he graduated he probably was bought a brand new wand as a gift much in the same way Percy was bought an owl. But since charlie didnt need the old hand me down wand, it was passed to Ron. I always thought wizarding families, specially old ones like the Weasley's might have had a couple of extra old wands lying around that belonged to dead family members. Fudge thought it was in reference to Sirius wanting to kill Harry, but it’s revealed that Sirius was actually worried about Harry’s safety because he is sharing a dormitory with the man who murdered his parents. @oremfrien2 ай бұрын
@@xletragedyx The Weasleys would need money to go to Egypt because: (1) It's unclear how far a person can Apparate (without a high likelihood of splinching) or use a Portkey; it may work to get across the UK but might be insufficient to get to Egypt -- and Egyptians don't have fireplaces (and are likely not connected to the British Floo Network), so Floo Powder is out. (2) While in Egypt, I doubt the Weasleys want to live in a tent, eat British food, and not go sightseeing. Travel costs money if you want to actually enjoy yourself. This is the problem with building large worlds full of mcguffins like magic. An author's main goal is to create a series of dilemmas for the characters to resolve on their way through the main story arc. However, there can be times when a tool is introduced - like the time turner or the pensieve - that can help with one plot point, but act as a hole for a future plot point. As intuitive people, readers will remember incredibly useful things and when they are presented with a new crisis in the story, will immediately begin to think as if they were the characters in the story. What would they do considering all of the tools introduced so far. But only to see the author completely glosses over it. Sometimes authors will forget they even had those things in their story, or a clear justification exists, but just didn't translate well in the narrative.

Something like the elder wand is a mcguffin as voldemort is trying to acquire it and also having trying to be the owner of the wand to become the most powerful wizard. He fails the latter and harry destroys it to not have it fall into the wrong hands. The wand drives the plot. A good example of a mcguffin is the ark of the covenant from raiders of the lost ark or even the philosphers stone from the first book and film.

I think that Petunia knew more than she ever let on, because, after all, she didn't want Vernon and her son to see her as a “freak.”She was happy to keep her lips sealed about anything that she may have known. I think Snape didn't say anything about the potion's book, because if Harry had found out that it was Sanpe's, it might have led Harry on a trail to his identity, that he knew his mother, and who Eileen Prince was, which was what Sanpe wanted to be kept from Harry at all costs. Voldemort showed up at the ministry because he was called for help, and probably by Bellatrix. Tom still lost several of his inner circle that night, with only Bellatrix escaping. Not all locks can be unlocked with the unlocking spell, even using certain dodgy knives. Harry found that out while in the DoM. Harry did try to contact Sirius, via Umbridge's floo, where Kreacher lied to Harry about Sirius' whereabouts. Harry didn't remember the mirror until he was packing to leave, where he broke it. Plus, his scar was burning, which addled his thoughts. They flat screwed up on Minerva's age. Polyjuice potion takes six months to brew, if I recall, and he would have needed the ingredients. Sirius could have tried to obtain some from one of the Order's members, but I'd say that Dumbledore told them not to help him leave No. 12. The portkey in the tournament was not a timed portkey, it triggered on touch. Barty made sure that Harry would reach it first. Neither Minerva nor Hagrid wished to leave Harry at the Dursleys, that was all Dumbledore's doing, and he was too cowardly to ring the doorbell. However, it was said that Minerva spent the night watching over things until Petunia found him the next morning. Remember, Dumbledore ordered them to not speak to the Dursleys, they were supposed to be left alone. Something was off about Albus and this. It looks like, from the Cursed Child, that Tom may have been interested in Time Turners, as a plot was made after their destruction in the DoM, to construct one between Malfoy, Nott, and, I think, Rookwood. Stating the above, a big plot hole was the abduction of Fortescue. JKR wrote about him, and why he was to be used. Fortescue was well-trained in magical history, and was another seeker of the Deathly Hallows. He would have been who Tom tortured for information about the Hallows, and especially, where he found out about the Elder Wand. JKR left it be, and didn't mention why he was taken.
@romileever88858 ай бұрын
I think you’re correct about the portkey not being timed. However, portkeys are only supposed to go one way. Touching it again doesn’t activate them to return to their place of origin (or somewhere else). But when Harry touched the Triwizard cup a second time it takes him to the entrance of the maze in front of the entire school. Therefore, when Crouch Jr (as Moody) bewitched the cup, he planned to have it take anyone who touched it first to the graveyard, then to the front of the maze. Voldemort obviously wanted to kill Harry that night, so who was meant to take that return trip?

For the Hogwarts express plot hole I think we could reasonably assume that students need new supplies every year before the term starts. They have to go to Diagon Alley as far as we know to get their school supplies and it’s in or around London amiright? If so then it would be a big to-do to go school shopping where we know they should and then hop on the train to get to school. Two birds with one stone kind of trip I guess?
@63brennan3 ай бұрын
This makes sense but I think it might be a simple matter of logistics. When they arrive they are brought to the great hall for the sorting ceremony, while their luggage is brought to their rooms. Even with magic, this would be far more frantic and disorganized if you multiple transports coming in. This is why even in the American military when you report for basic training you are brought to one location and then bused to the actual base. And it would also be more difficult to have enchanted platforms at so many stations across a country that, in all honesty, isn't that big. No matter where you are in the UK you are only a few hours from London.

I sometimes wonder if Charlie wasn't dead in earlier drafts of Philosopher's Stone and that's why Ron got his old wand. A few more which weren't mentioned. - Draco Malfoy's greatest fear about the Forbidden Forest is werewolves. However, werewolves are human when there is no full moon. Do actual humans live in the Forest, or what? - Salazar Slytherin planned to get Hogwarts rid of Muggle-borns, but only them. How did he know the Basilisk that can kill anyone with its gaze, won't meet anyone he wouldn't want to hurt? - Why can't Sirius Black, one of the most talented former Hogwarts student, disguise himself after his escape from Azkaban? - Why does Barty Crouch Jr want to kill Harry after he left the maze? As a Death Eater, he should know Voldemort wants to kill Harry himself. - Why can't Voldemort and his Death Eaters, most wanted people of the Wizarding World, use any disguise upon the Ministry heist? - Tom Riddle is, according to the lore, past his second Horcrux when he asks Slughorn about the effects of multiple Horcruxes. What use is that info for him at that point? He already entered a one-way road. - Levicorpus is a non-verbal spell. It it's Snape's invention, as he claims it to be, how did the Marauders learn it to use it against Snape? - Why don't the Death Eaters capture Harry after Snape defeats him in the battle after Dumbledore's death? Snape does have a reason not to, but the others don't. - Is Nagini immortal? If not, it makes no sense why Voldemort sentences a shard of his soul to die with her. - Why is Nagini disguised as Bathilda Bagshot of all people in Godric's Hollow? Voldemort doesn't know Harry will need Bathilda's help. - Nagini's venom kills Snape within minutes, but Harry, also bitten by Nagini, survives it. Not to mention, Nagini shouldn't bite Harry, as Voldemort, who has direct control over her, wants to kill Harry himself.

1. As a young boy, I doubt he knew that. There were probably only werewolf cubs there and a rumour to keep people out of the forest 2. The opener of the chamber would probably target a single person, guiding the basilisk who could just look downwards while using it’s sense of smell 3. There aren’t THAT many people in each house, they’d realise if a stranger walked in, even if disguised. The dementors also aren’t fooled, and Sirius doesn’t have access to neither a wand nor potions ingredients 4. None of them knew until after his resurrection, right? Even if they did, he was young and probably only a fringe death eater until he sacrificed a life sentence in Azkaban for Voldemort 4. Good question 5. To reassure himself, to see if it’d get worse after even more than just two 6. Probably spread with his Slytherin gang and then got leaked. Or else they reversed-engineered it; levicorpus just means levitate body and liberacorpus just means free body. 7. Also good question 8. Her dead body would probably still work fine 9. He might’ve guessed he’d turn to Bathilda if he returned. Or he needed a magical person to bewitch the body or an old lonely person as to not be suspicious 10. Maybe she could control her venom? Also Snape was bit multiple times, and Arthur survived a similar attack. Her venom could be very weak and only stop non-magic attempts at stemming blood flow (as with Arthur)

1. Excerpt from the Werewolves page on wizarding world website: Such a litter was once set free, under conditions of extreme secrecy, in the Forbidden Forest at Hogwarts, with the kind permission of Albus Dumbledore. The cubs grew into beautiful and unusually intelligent wolves and some of them live there still, which has given rise to the stories about ‘werewolves’ in the Forest - stories none of the teachers, or the gamekeeper, has done much to dispel because keeping students out of the Forest is, in their view, highly desirable.

Another option is that you can 'converse' with the four when you fail to crack it, and they could've matched the 'gryffindor troublemakers' checklist and gotten the password from the items itself as a 'hey try this and continue our work'. Also, at about 15:00 minutes in - Doesn't Harry try but fail to contact Sirius before he goes to the ministry? Through floo powder? I think Ron’s wand is actually pretty easily explained. If you remember, when the Weasleys were given the title of Prefect they received a gift that they desired. For Percy it was an Owl, for Ron it was the Cleansweep 11- and while it is unconfirmed whether or not Charlie became a Prefect at Hogwarts, Ron did mention he was Quidditch Team Captain- which grants access to many similar privileges as Prefects. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to assume that Charlie’s wand was most likely a hand-me-down as well, and he probably requested a wand of his own. Also, if you think about it, Ron never really was seen as a skilled Wizard in terms of spell casting until well after The Prisoner of Azkaban- which is when he received his replacement wand. In Chamber of Secrets and Philosopher’s Stone he has trouble casting simple spells and charms like Wingardium Leviosa, or turning Scabbers yellow. Not exactly a plot hole when you think of it.

13:10 I once saw someone theorising that the map might have helped Fred and George figure out how to use it. When Snape tried to reveal it, its answers were personalised and specifically meant for Snape. I remember it saying something like: "we would like to register our astonishment that an idiot like that ever became a professor". But if the marauders had simply pre-recorded a rude message for Snape while they were at school, in case he tried to read it, the map wouldn't have said anything about him being a professor. This means that the map must have its own kind of intelligence and can somehow recognise who's trying to gain access. We can therefore assume that the map's answers would have been different when Fred and George tried to read it. And since the marauders most likely would love helping other trouble-makers such as Fred and George, it doesn't seem unreasonable that the map would try to help them figure out the correct password.

What if the spell or ritual of receiving the dark mark "tattoo" involved some form of the unbreakable vow? If this were the case, then it would close the obvious plot hole of why Voldemort didn't use the unbreakable vow. Obviously, this solution opens a new plot hole for how could Snape become a double agent. However, I think that the manner in which Snape betrayed Voldemort would close this hole as well. Snape never directly lied to Voldemort or "actively" betrayed him. Snape had earned Voldemort's trust while he was a fully committed death eater. When he turned double agent for Dumbledore, he never lied to Voldemort. He told him the truth; just not the entirety of the truth. Remember that he told Voldemort that Dumbledore had "tried" to turn him traitor. Voldemort ordered Snape to go do it, thinking that with Snape in Dumbledore's trust, he would be able to gain secrets and useful information for him. He gave Voldemort the truth when questioned about why he couldn't reveal the location of the headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix. He wasn't the secret keeper and therefore couldn't give up the location. He told Voldemort the real date and time of Harry's escape from the Dursley's to the Weasley's at he beginning of The Deathly Hallows. Even though Voldemort had been given, and believed, different information from the imperioused Thickenese at the ministry. Yes, Snape was a true master of occlumencey. But I believe that Snape ALWAYS told Voldemort enough of the truth that when he was under the influence of Voldemort's legilimency he only had to use his occlumencey to hide the rest of the truth that he hadn't spoken out loud. Voldemort only looked into Snape's mind enough to sense the truth of what he had said, but not far enough to discover that last part that he was hiding.

Charlie might have had someone else's wand before passing it down to Ron and buying a new one for himself. One of Molly's brothers' for example 3. F&G said that they tried a lot of passwords and spells on the map before finally figuring it out. Plus the map knows who it interacts with like in this instance with Snape. It is likely that the map saw their nature and just helped them unlock itself eventually 4. Harry did try to contact Sirius through the Grimmauld 12 chimney but got caught before he could do that and on the other side he was greeted by Kreacher who trash talked him and lied about Sirius' whereabouts. He forgot about the mirror and only remembered it existed after Sirius died when he kicked his trunk and found broken glass in there, that's why he was using a shard of it to communicate with Ab. well snape did say his name while trying to open hte map and only then did the map start trash talking i think the correct line is:'Professor Severus snape, master of this school, commands you to yield the information you conceal!'

Why can't eyesight problems be cured? bones, snakebites, and petrification can be cured! I have asked this before, but no one has answered this.

They can't cure things like cancer either. I believe your base medical conditions stay, a broken arm wouldn't count as your base medical conditions. Or if muggle medicine can heal it they can heal it type vibe. Because they live longer but can't fix any medical issues we can't

In “From the wizarding archive” it states if two werewolves mate during a full moon the resulting offspring is true wolves albeit more intelligent than an average wolf. Hence why Hagrid was able to keep wolf cubs under his bed 😂

Colin's camera is very old fashion and unlike our numeric equivalents. Moreover, there's strong evidence to believe Colin's camera is indeed enchanted: In HP2 for the Playstation, Colin lets you access his photo album in the common room, to which he states the photos to be magical. They are, in effect, a handy chapter mode to replay previous parts of the game to ensure you haven't missed anything. While outside of videogame logic I don't think Colin's photos would allow such a thing, there's a strong possibility that his photos can show moving parts like most other pictures taken in the wizarding world.

PJ Potion WAS known to be a very difficult potion to make, and Hermione's ability to do so was actually an impressive feat - also, it required difficult-to -acquire intendents they had to steal from Snape. It's literally all right there in the book

Here's my top 3 Harry Potter plot holes. #3: The Defense against the dark arts post curse: In the books and movies, it's established that the position of the defense against the dark arts teacher at Hogwarts is cursed so that any teacher hired won't last more than a single year. It's also implied in the books that the person responsible for casting this curse was Voldemort. Here's the problem: If Voldemort had the power to cast a spell that ensures chaotic analog events all culminate to a single, inevitable outcome, he could literally never lose. He would become the unquestioned Master of the wizarding world with very little effort, regardless of what other people tried to do. This curse subtly displays a level of omnipotent power over the course of wizard history that we never see used for any other purpose. #2: The rise of technology: The Harry Potter world is meant to be a mirror of our own world. Well, if that's the case, then presumably muggle technology is also advancing at the same rate. If this is the case, informational tech would have improved so much by 2012 that there's no amount of memory erasing magic that could conceal the truth of the magical community. Once you get to a certain technology threshold, information just starts moving too fast for wizards to stop it. #1: The size of the wizarding world: Now I know that Rowling herself has been pretty inconsistent about how many magical people there are compared to muggles, but that's not what I'm really getting at here. In the books, there are some discussions about genealogy and wizarding reproduction, and it always seems to be the case that as long as at least one parent is magical, then most or all of the offspring will be magical. Clearly, magic is meant to be seen as a dominant trait when it comes to magical families. Well, if that's the case, and if wizards have existed for as long as humanity (~200,000 years), then practically every single human in that world should be magical by now. If magic is a dominant trait, then it should have, well, dominated!

The DoDA post wasn't literally cursed, that was something the students theorized.
@bencrispe9562Ай бұрын
@@intermidable No, it was literally cursed, since the curse broke after Voldemort died, and teachers could stay teaching the post for as many years as they wanted after that.

For how the Basilisk got around the school using the pipes: Perhaps the pipes are meant to fit the need of whatever is passing through it. You can't tell me neither Fred and George or The Marauders wouldn't have thought it extremely funny to engorge a bm to make filch clean it with out magic

On the Charley passing the wand to Ron thing, and you mentioned how they tend to "rebel," here's a theory... perhaps that is why whenever Ron would cast more complex spells, they would rarely go according to plan or how they were intended.

To address the Lockhart plot hole. I think that, in addition to being skilled at memory charms, he would also be good at charms that raise one’s charisma and/or bedazzle those who see him, perhaps even in his photos. This WOULD explain the fascination with giving out signed photos. Hey, If Dumbledore can bewitch Chocolate Frog cards to spy on Wizardom, why not this?

The Marauder's Map: It was in Filch's office, which makes it highly likely it's contraband, as that seems to be Filch's job. As to how they figured out the password: In the books, we see the blank map briefly confiscated by Snape who tries to make it reveal its secrets, and it instead insults him. So it can do more than be a map, and I figure that Fred and George likely just poked at it for a bit until they got a response, then joked back and forth with the imprints of the Marauders' personalities, and then eventually hit on the right phrase. Harry contacting Sirius - He does try to contact him. Owl post is too slow, and the Floo network at Hogwarts is being monitored by the ministry, apart from Umbridge's personal floo. Harry tries to break into her office while she's distracted, and tries to contact Sirius, but instead finds Kreacher who lies to him about Sirius' whereabouts. When he is then caught, he informs Snape, who *does* tell the order what happened, but couldn't let on to Harry that he was on his side, or that he even knew what Harry meant when he yelled out "They have Padfoot at the place where it's kept!" The one other thing that they have, the two-way mirror Sirius gave him at Christmas, Harry had previously vowed to never use so that Sirius wouldn't do something stupid and get captured, and in the heat of the moment after getting caught in Umbridge's office, he just forgot it existed. As for how it could be forgotten, Sirius took Harry to the side and handed it to him in private, after which Harry promptly puts it into his trunk under other things and intentionally forgets about it for the above reasons. Nobody else knew that Harry had the mirror aside from *maybe* Remus, and he wasn't in a position to remind Harry about it at the time. Nobody in his friend group was aware of it.

Haggis’s wand was repaired by Dumbledore with the elder wand. It’s the same way Harry repairs his phoenix feather wand with the elder wand, but Albus was trying to hide it so that Hagrid could skirt by with it and also so it wouldn’t be obvious that he was extremely overpowered and had the elder wand

I think the werewolf cub reference is Hagrid thinking some wolf cubs were werewolves or something and not getting it quite correct and other students taunting him about it. 'Werewolf cubs' in parenthesis would have helped. Regarding the potion book, Snape is surprised that Harry Tries to use Septum Sempra against him so i doubt that he left it on purpose. Im happier that he just lost it or like all school books it was collected in at the end of the year as some schools do.
