Agreed, but what are Porsche doing with their branding ? I love the script that says ‘Porsche’ or ‘Boxster’ etc across the rear of each car, but newer models are starting to copy the boot lid if a 60s Ford Cortina . Too many names and numbers and sometimes badly sized/l displayed. My little Boxster is discrete by comparison and that is one of the main reason I like it so very much.

I thought the point of so many variants was to give you a price range. They are ALL expensive, a base Carrera can be optioned out to be as expensive as a Turbo. And some of the variants are redundant.
@bavariancarenthusiast27222 жыл бұрын
@@MrTimeless101 if you know Porsches, owned some you would know. The different versions are distinct. Also the pricing is relative, most of them you can sell even with a higher price (right now) or very little loss of value.
@herrmann9672 жыл бұрын
Actually there are not too many 911 models. Porsche just makes it seem like it for marketing purposes. There is (in order) the Carrera, Carrera S, GTS, Turbo and GT3. With the standard Carrera being a sporty cruiser and the GT3 being the most track focused. You can get the Carreras also with 4WD - then the has a "4" in the Name. You also get most models as Coupe, Cabrio or Targa. However the suspension settings, engine, steering and mandatory options really make a difference on the road. Especially the GTs. They for example have a completely different front axle.

I think the split between the new GT3 and GT3 Touring has allowed the GT3 to become much more track-focussed, to the detriment of its on-road manners. The GTS seems like an excellent compromise though, and the fact that it's still available with a manual is just gravy.
@DPR1782 жыл бұрын
There is no split between the gt3 and the gt3 touring. the only difference is the lack of spoiler in the touring. With the GT3 being so track focused, I don't know where they go with the gt3RS

Hi Harry, as much as I’d love to think I have a GT3 engine in the back of my 997 GTS, it is unfortunately not the the Mezger unit. The 997 GTS was offered from the 2nd generation 997 and has a regular Carrera S DFI engine (385hp) with the powerkit installed as standard which bumps the power to 408hp. Still a lot of fun with the glorious 6-speed manual gearbox, but not as hardcore as the 997 GT3 (dare I call the 997 GTS comfortable?).

I must say, the “quirkiness” being brought back by the manual isn’t surprising. It’s one of the only new manuals available now, especially over 100k. Brilliant as always Harry! I must say, I don’t agree on brakes. The carbons are so pricey, and for someone that would use it daily, not a journalist special, I would get the steels. That’s someone having fun drifting it around for a few hours, not normal wear.
@HawkMillFarm2 жыл бұрын
But it still doesn’t bob on the front end, 997 was the last that did.
@Beer_Dad19752 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I thought, it's journalists drifting for the cameras hour after hour with some level of stability control still switched on that has most likely ruined those rear rotors. I don't think most owners would ever have this problem unless they were complete knobheads - and in any case, how many sets of steel rotors could you get for 6000 pounds? A lifetimes worth I'd bet.
I know you are trying to be funny, but a base 911 with no options is an excellent car. I can't think of one thing I would add if I was ordering a new 992 today. Maybe a glass sunroof. $2,000. Maybe.

I have owned a lot of 911 in different forms over the years. For my money and being the best performance all-rounder with the 991.2/992 is the 911 Carrera S and GTS in rwd form. The C4S front end feels heavier and the additional grip isn’t necessary with the balance of the modern 911. Put rear wheel steering in the mix and the C2S/GTS is unbelievable to the point even on the track at upper limits tends to defy physics. Even the best drivers will never reach its limits. You can spec either cars so many ways there really isn’t gonna be much of a difference in price point. Go all out in the options and you won’t be disappointed.

Just thought of another reason righthand drive cars are less convenient. 90 percent of people around the globe are right handed, and therefore are more adept when using the right hand. Having the shifter, and the touch screen, or worse, the manual screen controls on your left is far less advantages than having them on the right. But, I guess you get used to it, and it does result in better dexterity in your left hand which is a nice benefit. 👍✌

Harry, lovely review as always. Would love to see you take a look at the GT3 touring to see where it compares between the GTS and GT3. Cheers!

The Touring drives no differently than the winged GT3. It’s the same exact car less the aero differences.

It’s exactly the same car as the GT3 but with a slightly different body.

Great review. I'm deciding between a GTS4 and a C4S!

Much better, Harry - much, much better. So many of your episodes over the last year have been plagued with crook editing, lighting, dialogue, bumbling off topic, etc, etc. This one - back in form. 🙂

Hi Harry, you didn't mention road noise in the GTS, can I deduce that it's a quieter car somehow? Love your videos by the way including the farming ones. Please keep em coming. Pete

I have only been driving in the UK once and I have to say that the most roads are pretty dangarous ! So not many people can drive those roads like Harry is !

The Uk has the safest roads in Europe , if not the whole world, (google it). Maybe you can't drive very well.

The roads are full of loons that drive much more recklessly than Harry.
