2020 sees the launch of the Roadster version on the Aston Martin Vantage, bringing the aural delights of the boisterous twin-turbo V8 even more to the fore than they are in the Coupe. But is that the only advantage of the Roadster over the Coupe version of Aston's entry level model? Watch the video to finds out..

Harry: The previous much more beautiful generation are selling for $35,000 used. This generation is not selling - people don't like the styling, inside or out. The dash is a galloping disaster...it looks like a Camaro. The AMG is certainly a plus for reliability, but it does seem to fart a lot.

Except AMG engines aren't reliable anymore - most that they have made this century has had multiple fatal failure points that can grenade the engine if not attended to before the fact. The fact that this is a Hot-V, which is done mostly for fuel economy and emissions reasons - is a red-light to start off with - its a design that leads to premature failure of turbos and turbo components, and on top of that a lot of the ducting in the hot-v is plastic, which deteriorates faster the more it is heated and cooled. These cars will depreciate like stones.

@Irvine7214x6apc
@Irvine7214x6apc 3 жыл бұрын
@OneAboveAll The Vantage S V12 Roadster has a 6.0 L V12 naturally aspirated engine, meaning no turbos. Being N/A it sounds a lot better, it is freer revving, it is way more involving, it has far better throttle response and it has more power in relation to how much you move your right foot on the accelerator (more in tune with your inputs, no turbo spool up delays). As a direct result of all the above, it is much more fun than a turbo engine in my book.

Thanks Harry. Another great segment. The problem with this Aston is that as a GT car there are better alternatives for less money, like you mentioned, the Jaguar and as a sports car the better alternatives are the 911, Boxster GTS, etc. And the older model Astons were better looking.

Love Harry’s honesty, he’s not seduced by the Aston. Says it’s good but really questions the price of the car and unashamedly talks about the Boxster in the same breath as the Vantage where others wouldn’t. Other car journalists are snobby when it comes to certain cars and wouldn’t dream of having the F-Type or Boxster in front of the Aston. Great review Harry.

I think I would be more tempted by an LC500 convertible tbh, pretty much guaranteed better build quality / fit & finish and paint quality / far superior interior & better reliability / dealer network. Plus the Lexus also looks (imho) fantastic and also has a naturally aspirated V8, instead of some borrowed turbo lump from AMG. Main thing you would be missing is the 'kudos' of the Aston Martin name/image. You would also save approx 50k!
@davecom3
@davecom3 3 жыл бұрын
Lexus will also be worth more in 5 years time than this. Mercedes lost a lot of SL customers to Lexus precisely because of reliability and residual value- and now that Lexus have the USP of an NA V8 that sounds great...will Aston even be in business in two years' time??

@@davecom3 With all the bail outs Aston have had and the losses they are making, plus pinning their hopes on the DBX I must confess I was thinking that exact thing when I was typing out my comment above, will Aston even survive.
@davecom3
@davecom3 3 жыл бұрын
@@zlatanmorrison8182 I completely forgot about the DBX! I've read that it's an excellent SUV so perhaps Aston might survive because of it. Theyve put a bit more thought into that vehicle. It's a shame theyve released it at one of the worst times imaginable. Conspicuous consumption isnt 'de rigueur' right now!

The windows would be the deal killer for me. Because the doors rise upwards when they open outwards, the windows have to roll down slightly in order to open or close the doors. This happens automatically. Here in the northeastern part of the US and in other colder wintery climates, car windows routinely freeze up during the winters. So the automatic windows attempt to roll down the windows but can’t because the window is frozen, the worm gear breaks, and the window shatters against the door frame. Great engineering there, Aston!

I drive a 460 HP 2018 Ford Mustang V8 GT w/Performance Pack. I drive it everyday, in all weather. No extra charge for; Shadow Black paint, Black w/Red Lettering Brembo brake calipers, silver painted strut tower brace, heated and cooled seats, gloss black painted aluminum wheels. The car has a Glove Box! The V8 has instant “Grumble”, it is an American V8!! Car has been dead reliable - a great road trip car. Did not come with an umbrella, but a got a free one as a Honda promotion! Twice a year oil change service with 10 qts. full synthetic oil $100. I believe I have 9/10 the car for 1/3 the price + I have an actual six speed manual gear box! Love my Mustang.

Imagine spending this kind of money on a Ferrari only to find that it has a Renault engine under the bonnet. Or shelling out on 911 turbo S only to find a Toyota engine under the bonnet. The customers in this league buy into the brand as well as the capabilities of the car. They would hope to get a full on Aston experience which includes a characterful engine that hasn't been rebadged from another manufacturer.

Great review as always, Harry. I guess with an Aston Martin, you expect a brand premium somehow. In the US they did offer discounts on the 8 cyl 2019 and 2020 models. If someone might know the answer, it would be you - are Aston Martin planning a new car or an updated car with the new Mercedes - HWA normally aspirated V 12 that Pagani offered they would be putting into the Huayra? Maybe we need to keep watching because we'll hear about it from you, but that is a pleasure to look forward to. Best wishes!
