One of the barriers to entry to boxing was tracking fighters and multiple belts, so having a single organization with a known roster was a big boost for the UFC. Now that they're trying to put out events constantly, they're constantly bringing in young talent for a fight or 2, never to be seen again. They're creating barriers to entry, all to make the brand stand tall over the fighters.

At this point alot of people barely remember why McGregor even is a star... The Mystic Mac days are looooong past and these days he is mostly known for getting in trouble for some reason or other. His rise was phenomenal, first double champ. Yet he defended neither of his titles, and he has lost more fights than he has won since as well. I think McGregor is more irrelevant than most people assume he is. Longtime fans know he was good, 8 years ago... but now? We all know a fighter is for the most part only as good as his/her last fight, and if people barely remember when last you fought all that star power diminishes even if that fight was an entertaining win, more so if it was a loss. Chandler has wasted his time. And the UFC keeps wasting the star potential of many fighters... Tom Aspinall is a potential star, yet the division is being held up by two guys that are both retiring after a fight that should already have happened and is mostly past its sell by date.

I completley understand it but Chandler is towards the end of his career (father time wise, his prime is past) and now he has waited so long and did tuf he cant really turn his back. We all as MMA fans are so quick to jump ships and judge all these fighters.. chandler hasnt been using his wrestling to put on interesting fights, he has been a company man and it MAY be for nothing. Time will tell but put yourselves in conor or mikes shoes. * broken leg * filming tuf * USADA parting ways * conor has generational wealth * Mike is chasing that wealth *Conor vs Nate 3 is always in the back pocket. There are so many factors to consider.. Personally i dont think that conor is having a easy time getting off the juice, but that could be completley off, or only a small part of it. Bloke got gifted a fight to win the lightweight title and all these people carry on about him being "champ champ" he never fought anybody at lightweight before his title shot, just fought eddie who he beat for the title. He fought nate diaz at welterweight so if he lost he could say he didn't lose to a lightweight fighter so he could then get the gifted shot at the belt. It's an absolute joke. How does nobody see this? Now all he does is talk when there is a good fight and try take the light away from these other fighters. Mcgregor didn't do anything at lightweight and he should just go away and be quiet. Don't know how these people are still so high on megregor.

You can't compare Cerrone's benefit to Poirer's, because Dustin won and Cerrone got beaten in a round. Of course Cerrone wasn't elevated. Another similar-but-not-similar company tried the same thing and tanked themselves, public awareness-wise.

I've been thinking about this recently too...I feel bad for Chandler. He really fell head first into the McGregor black-hole. You think it is a great opportunity but McGregor is highly unreliable. He held up the belt in more than one weight class for years, affecting other fighter's careers, all under the hope he would compete again to defend his belts...only for that not to happen. Chandler could move on from his bout with Conor but that would only serve as a very public and clear excuse for Conor to dismiss him in order to move on to someone less competitive like Nate Diaz.....what a shitty situation for Chandler to be stuck in. Lose out on millions or become inactive and look like a fool, groveling at Conor's feet....

For sure UFC is trying to make UFC itself the star not the fighters. They even brought Vince McMahon in to learn all the tricks he used to do it for the WWE. With the fan reaction to Justin vs Max and Oliveria essentially set to challenge Islam next, i dont see McGregor coming back for less than a belt based solely on the imagine hes tried to cultivate (and failed) since returning from the boxing match. Idk why but i see him fighting at 170 on a uk/irish card vs Leon on "short notice" when hes been training for that particular fight the entire time.
