Robin's importance is more than just a reader, she's a historian. She will be able to put together the void CENTURY and use what she already knows to put together what happened before and after.

I think Oda did that because there will be a big battle on the last island. if Robin is the only one that knows how to read the knowledge than it makes it harder for multiple groups to find the island without creating or bringing unnecessarily characters (old characters from gold rogers crew) in to be a link in their he end story.

I was about to the something similar explaining this but you hit the nail on the head! I think ODA is just giving us a few extra people for the competition to be interesting. If you really think about it from the start of the Journey with Robin we've learned she was the only person capable of reading the ponegylphs. Which would make the Strawhats the only Pirates capable of gaining the one piece. We also know that Oda love to pull tricks out his sleeve and I believe him introducing us to other people capable of reading the stones as a way to throw us off a little for the final battle. As of rn the closest people to the one piece are 1st Strawhats (Robin), 2nd Blackbeard (Pudding), 3rd Shanks (UnKnown way of reading the stones) 4th WG (I would have said buggy but it wouldn't make much sense).

Even with vegapunk, pudding, and anyone else, dont forget that Robin is sitting on KNOWLEDGE. She's known pluton was in wano since ALABASTA, and we ONLY JUST FOUND OUT. She's been to the sky islands, Fishman island, Zou, she's read more ancient texts than anyone else in the verse. We have NO IDEA how much she already knows, and by the end shes the only one who will be able to out the FULL puzzle together (with the help of others like vegapunk, pudding, saul, etc). Robin, imo, is the most important (in terms of larger implications on the world) straw hat. Theres a reason the WG is so terrified of her, so determined to capture her.

thats a fair take on it towards the end. we can cheat on a test and know what the answer to the final question is but robin can help us to understand how and why the answer is what it is.

I don’t feel Robins importance has been taken out of the story. But the reality is we’re approaching the endgame and Oda had to give other pirates competing for the one piece means to read the poneglyphs. Otherwise you have to do some storyline of her being kidnapped or removed from play.

Robin just feels underutilized to me. I want more for her because her story is really important and she plays as being a key that basically anything in story instead now she just hangs in the back being in the Pokédex for any information we need context of

She’s the only one that keeps up with most of the worlds ongoing developments so her role as brainy/Informative person is kinda necessary.

@@TRJ42 we got a big crew. its hard to give everyone stuff to do every arc. She did get that huge bit with the last pluton in wano... which is HUGE for her. she just doesnt get as much screen time as the people fighting center stage, or the important guest of the arc

Dont even need to watch anyone arguing Oda has. Just this recent arc we saw only Robin and Law getting critical information about an ancient weapon. She was the one that got told by Neptune about Shirahoshi, and im sure she will learn even greater things in Elbaf

Honestly, with the level of world building that we have seen from oda until now, it would have been strange if there was NOT another way to read the ponyglyphs. If at this point in the story she was the only one, then Everyone and i mean EVERYONE's top priority would have beento Find and Capture Nico Robin or persuade her to join them.

The way I see it is that there have to be other avenues for it because at this point I doubt Robin would lead a gone else to the One Piece but Luffy, so people like Shanks or Blackbeard have to find other ways because Robin will die before telling them over telling Luffy

This is one of the side effects of Oda's worldbuilding. He has so many interesting characters deserving more spotlight than what they already get, but it ultimately means others have to take a step back. I'm sure Robin will come back into the story in a big way but not at Egghead it seems.

We probably will get that info when the strawhats get to elbaf. She will meet the man marked in flames, explain what she had to do to survive after the buster call and then give us some exposition about what's in books taken away for safe keeping from her island.

I mean we did have a development in Robin's story this arc when she finds out ***SPOILER*** Saul is alive, and the books of Ohara were transported to Elbaf. Perhaps Saul is the "man marked by flames" in which case Robin's importance to finding the last poleglyph may put her more in focus of the story when they reach Elbaf
