Completely agree with Ben Walker on his methodology of taking note of local council elections. Two reasons: lot of people have already voted for the challenging party that is strong at a local level, and that party literally has bodies on the ground to actually campaign. This means both a head start, and plenty of capability and individual opportunities to press the 'only challenger here' message. Constituencies where the Labour vote is exaggerated by national strength include Stratford-upon-Avon and Maidenhead, where national models are saying Tory hold because of a relatively evenly split opposition.
