Hasan hit the nail on the head, I had my wedding at a castle and only paid a few grand. Literally only paid for the location and food, band, photography, wedding planner, entertainer, stylist, all these jobs were divided up between friends and family and while not all of it was perfectly professional it was beautiful and certainly very personal. I was a student at the time and I have no clue how people think spending 100k on a wedding is reasonable.

Oh I went to one of those weddings. I did the photography. Every guest had a job. The couple only spent €5,000, including their honeymoon and thank you presents for the guests who had big roles. Another friend only spent €200 on their wedding. It was a pot luck, the groom made the wedding rings and brewed all the wine, again everyone had jobs to do. This is the way to move forward instead of debt. I really felt like I was a part of the ceremony, instead of being bored on my phone.

They kept it going for 17 effin days which is how it used to be in the 20th century. 7 days of sangeet (musical ceremonies groom vs bride's family) 2 days of jaago (roaming around the whole village at night singing & dancing letting everyone about the wedding) then ring ceremony (self explanatory) shagan (both sides bringing gifts for the other side) the wedding & at last 2 receptions (one for the hometown & one for the friends exclusively) a couple more events I don't remember were celebrated too 😅
