Guys, you've had some questions, here are some answers from Dan: 1) Re weather sealing: "...The X1D II and XCD lenses all have basic sealing against light spray and dust.." Do NOT take this to mean they are fully weather sealed, guys. 2) Re autofocus and tethering: "...it's hard to assign a specific statistic since there are many variables but the AF has been tuned on the contrast-detect system to be faster, alongside software optimization in the lenses too. The AF point is resizable (small, medium large) and movable throughout the image area, which accomplished 3 ways: tap-on-rear-LCD in live view, LCD-as-Trackpad when using the EVF, or long-pressing the AF/MF button to bring up the entire grid. The focus point can only be moved from the camera at this time You can start AF from Phocus, and switch between AF/MF, though the final featureset may grow or change once it exits the current beta into production..." 3) Re Android support: "...at the moment...not available." Sorry, that's all I've got on this one. 4) Re video: I can tell you it has been de-emphasized (I think this is the right call, BTW), which is why there's no HDMI port 5) Re EVF: "...The higher res OLED EVF is now 60FPS which improves the overall image latency, and alongside the improved internals and reduced shutter lag, the time between compose-and-capture is reduced..." 6) Re battery life: “... We do not have a CIPA rating, but battery performance are on-par with the previous model despite larger/brighter displays and improved performance. When supplemented by the expanded charging in-camera it definitely helps the powering options when shooting/traveling!...” That's it for now!

I'm super excited for this camera! I LOVE form factor of it. If you stand a m43 Panasonic GX8, you'll see that it's not much bigger. It's amazing. The menu is the best in the business IMO. The connectivity is impressive. As a little detail it may be, the USB-C connectivity is a nice touch. At just under $6k, halfway affordable. 100MP would be nice but for 98% of people, way overrated. IBIS is nice but for MF, really not necessary. My two wishes are as follows: 1) Show everyone that you are here to stay by doing everything a camera company should be doing to prove it. 2) Build a 120mm f/2.8 (or faster) for that 85mm FF focal length experience. For me, at the end of the day, it's all about image quality which includes fantastic color depth. Which by even the pics shown on KZbin, which is certainly not the best medium to show it, looks pretty darn good. My buy-in for another MF camera was going to be $20k - $25k. And that is for a refurbished, 8-year old system. Still awesome. But the opportunity to get a new system, with new tech, in a much smaller package, for less than half the price and possibly equal the image quality is going to be tough to deny. Really tough.
@waveland5 жыл бұрын
It's lovely. But all they did was catch up the old model to where it should have been in the first place. And for those who spent upwards of $10k on the original, it can't feel great to know you committed that much money to be a beta tester for a camera that now costs half as much.

Hmmm, would be a little bit upset if I had recently bought the previous model for 9500 € and I can now get the same, only slightly improved model for 5000 €. Compared to the price it cost short time ago the X1D I is now worth almost nothing on the second hand market. That are the risks of investing in fast changing market in digital photography. I feel a bit sorry too for Leica. I do not think many pros will buy a 23000€ S3 (only body) with GFX or X1D II as competitor...

Great video, Hugh ! “Home away from home” - that is a great place there in Soho. You know that I sold my X1D just before our workshop, my only disappointment was the AF performance. Not AF acquisition speed or precision because those were great. But the lack of AF point grouping, and lack of AF modes is a dealbreaker for every dynamic scene. Touch focus, ok, I get it, but Fuji managed to put a decent ‘auto’ AF system on the very same sensor. I would never buy the GFX 50’s but jump on the X1D II if AF experience was improved. What was your feeling on the AF when using it ?

Hmmmm dont really get this iPad focus that I am seeing all around photography now. I guess I was an early adopter on tablets but have now completely lost it with tablets, for me they are a huge limitation. End of the month will be the first trip I take without a tablet and I am so happy to be shot of it and its silly bluetooth keyboard. What I have been waiting for is a power solution to replace tablets; what we called in the 80s, a Life Drive inspired by AC Clarkes electronic organiser in, I forget which, book. Everything locked to a single drive combination in a small package; your life in a small package. Of course such a thing wasnt really possible. But, it is now with the new generation of miniturised quad core processors and touch screens. I have replaced all my computers and devices with an HP 13in 7i Spectre 360 4K Touch Screen Ultrabook connected to a docking station driving my 27in ASUS/B&O monitor desk setup. Not enough power, no problem add an external GPU, drive etc to the docking station. No Tablet? No problem I bend the keyboard behind and its a touch screen tablet. This HP is tiny and its pretty much the same size as a Pixel Slate. I have no doubt at all that this is now the future. This works well and by the time I replace it there will be less limitations to the technology as processors spiral up in power. Now I have a full power computer with my entire life on it tucked into my Crumpler Doozie bag, next to my camera and pixel2 XL phone; I cant see me going back, I am finding this fantastic, I dont use mobile solutions my main computer is my mobile solution. ;-)

First of all, congratulations on your very interesting channel. I usually don't write any comments; nevertheless, I must spend a few words in this case. Being part of the first group of the people that believed and trusted Hasselblad enough to buy the X1D system, I must ask, what about us? Did we overpay for a defected product that is still struggling to function properly? How can they sell the X1DII, supposedly an improved model for such a lower price? Is this how Hasselblad treats its trusting customers? yes, how about us? I am really disappointed and feel cheated. I would like to hear your opinion on this, Please! Thank you!

I understand your frustration - but I see it differently. Even beginning with the first Leica and first Hasselblad, running all the way up to the first Sony a7, now the first Nikon Zs and first Canon R’s, the history of cameras is the history of evolution and refinement - and improving manufacturing and pricing efficiencies. It’s just as true with cars, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, medical procedures, building materials, etc. I’ll have more to say about this in an upcoming video. Please hold that thought. :)
