This was a very informative video, I’ve had my xPan since 1999 but haven’t used it for 15 years. Recently i threw some film in to see if it still worked, runs like a champ. But I’m also going to check a few other things that you mentioned too.

The Hasselblad Xpan cameras are generally very, very reliable. But do use them once in a while. Long term storage can cause issues (you must have stored it well!).

Thanks for the info! I’m running a roll of film through it as we speak, functionality seems fine, metering working, definitely had the batteries out. We’ll see what we get when I print the contact sheet.

Very informative, just bought a visually terrible looking TX-1, but no dents or dings, just paint has come off. Went through all the checks you talked about, everything checked out, so hoping for the best. Unfortunately, completely clean versions are now so rare and so expensive, I’d honestly be worried about actually using one in the field. Its basically a collector’s item.

Hi Jonathan, great video. I recently got a TX-1. All seems well, but concerned with the placement of the focus patch within the framelines. Im currently using the 90mm, and notice the focus patch is not center of the framelines, more on the upper half. Is this normal? If not, can it be fixed? Thanks!
@WorldwideCameraExchange2 жыл бұрын
Yes, normal. A strange anomaly with the X-Pan. Nothing to worry about.

Thank you very much for this review. I am considering purchasing one, and obviously my concerns are what you spoke about at the beginning. The seller on ebay describes the tx-1 as mint. But I'm still hesitant as I can't physically inspect it myself. And for over $4000 I'm nervous!
@WorldwideCameraExchange11 ай бұрын
Hasselblad / Fuji cameras are generally very reliable. But you must understand there’s an outside chance the camera won’t be serviceable. It’s a $4000 gamble that some are, and some aren’t, willing to take.

I'm going to be selling my XPan (v1) soon -- after it gets back from a CLA. I'll be making sure that wherever I list it, I'll include a link to this video. Coupled with a recent CLA, it should help a prospective buyer feel more comfortable with what they are getting into.

Yes, always best to be open with people when selling. The CLA is a good idea.

Well, my lust and adoration for this camera outweighed my fears. And I bought one with a low shutter count. The viewfinder is amazing, nothing like it. Will get a roll or two shot this coming weekend. One thing, is there a manual to be found anywhere online for this? I can't see one anywhere on the usual sites. It's no biggie as I'm sure I'll figure it out quickly. But I just find it odd. Incredibly excited overall.

Thanks for this comprehensive review. How critical is the lens hood to shooting with the 30 mm lens? Or the 45 and 90 for that matter
@WorldwideCameraExchange2 жыл бұрын
Depends what you’re shooting. The hood is probably more important with the 30mm. The 45mm and 30mm lenses should be supplied with hoods so make sure you get them. The 90mm uses the same hood as the 45mm.
@arvindhoon2 жыл бұрын

Hi, Really enjoy your video. I have a quick question want to ask. Is the centre ND filter essential for 45mm lens or a UV filter will be fine?
@WorldwideCameraExchange2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The centre filter isn't essential on the 45mm lens. Hasselblad originally supplied it as an optional extra. The best thing to do is to try it out yourself and make a decision based on your own experience.
@plunger992 жыл бұрын
What a great video. Quick question, I found a 45mm lens but it has a scratch in the middle element of the glass. Would that affect the image greatly? Or would it be worth looking for one in better condition?
@WorldwideCameraExchange2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting. Scratches are very unlikely to affect performance. I would be slightly concerned however. How did the scratch get there? Bad maintenance? That’s a problem. Also, are you sure it’s a scratch and not coating failure or perhaps fungus (both more of an issue).
@plunger992 жыл бұрын
@@WorldwideCameraExchange Not sure how the scratches got there, the packaging it was in had a "DEMO" sticker on it so maybe it was a demo model at one time. It's only visible if you hold the lens up to a very bright light and look thru it. Aside from that, the lens seems to function well
@WorldwideCameraExchange2 жыл бұрын
It should be fine but just make sure it isn’t fungus

Super informative video! I just acquired one and the rangefinder seems be every so slightly misaligned vertically. Is this normal for the TX-1 & Xpan to have the slightest misalignment? Thank you!
@WorldwideCameraExchange2 жыл бұрын
Yes, quite a common issue with Hasselblad XPans. They can be adjusted but if the mis-alignment is minor I’d wait until you next have the camera serviced.
@dkproductionsandfilm2 жыл бұрын
@@WorldwideCameraExchange Great, thank you so much for replying. How often should these cameras be serviced? The one I purchased had a shutter count of 270
@WorldwideCameraExchange2 жыл бұрын
Perhaps every four or five years just to check things over, replace light seals, adjust rangefinder/shutter etc. If you’re using day-in-day-out then every two years.
@marckyokay2 жыл бұрын
So... When the rangefinder is not aligned (especially vertically) how to calibrate it? I heard it is quite easy to get out of alignment and that is the case with mine... Are there any instructions on that? Would be amazing help!

Ask a repairer to take a look. Some people do adjust themselves but I would never recommend this given the value of the camera.

I’d expect Contax lenses to vignette heavily on the panoramic setting but don’t have first-hand experience. Would be better with Mamiya, Bronica, Hasselblad lenses with greater coverage.
