This Ken Smith Tone in Sharay's hands literaly 🎶💚🔥

back in the year 2000 when ppl got cameras with optical zoom without ever knowing/caring to learn how to act...and back when dudes still used to act like your bass wasn't nothing if it wasn't a ken smith😂😂😂

That Ken smith part was 💯 accurate😂

I can only IMAGINE what it would be like to play like that in a CHURCH for the LORD and not have anyone telling me: to "turn down" or "it dont take all that" or to have a Keyboardist all in my way or they want u to play for free. I'm desirous of the complete freedom of expression u have on your instrument...which I can ONLY find at the moment in the world..keep on killin bro!!

turn it down will protect your ear, you cant beat biology

I feel this, but I do have to put forth a paradoxical take I figured out not too long ago. Hear me out. The freedom of self-expression that we musicians desire lies within the pocket itself, the very box people wanna put us in (I'm a drummer and a bassist, so I caught it from both ends, lol). Think about it. If you don't provide the pocket, the feeling of groove and comfort that everyone else needs to function, people can get on us a bit. But if you DO provide it, and keep everyone feeling good in the process........we can do _whatever we want._ Because if we're laying down the main parts of the pocket, providing the right atmosphere for the music, and placing our fills and licks in the right spot...........an embellishment or two won't go amiss. 😌 The trick is that we gotta strike the balance between providing the pocket that everyone else rides us about, while doing so in our own way, and with our own voice. Now, I will admit that it depends on who you play with and who you play for. Some MDs will be a little tighter about that than others. And I will admit that I've been privileged to be with a group that won't get on me too much as long as I provide the pocket that fits the song the best. So they've been fair to me. But I hope this helps. And if I missed the mark, I apologize in advance. It's just that I believed I figured out the "how come HE gets to do all the fancy fills?" issue, in a sense.

ahhhh yes, back in the day of exotic basses and huge bass amps/cabinets!! It was normal to see a couple of speaker cabinets like 8x8 or 2 4x10's etc. and that looks like a Ken Smith bass!! this is so awesome! LEGENDARY!

Wow! What a groove!!! ... and Sharay Reed is killing it again! It reminds me on all that funky, jazzy, soulful and groovy 70's and early 80's stuff (EWF, Funkadelic, Bar-Kays, Brass Construction, Ohio Players and many many more). Thank you and Greetings from an 65 year old (Black)Musiclover in Germany❤

Growin in cali as a kid learning bass me and my buddies all knew about the “two Reggie’s outta NY”-Young and Parker. People would always ask me and I never waivered-Reggie Parker, every time, even tho Reggie Parker was/is a genius in my book!!! But being out of cali, west coast style is more into the groove and Parker had way too many of the hex tunes where the whole song rode his groove, like this one🙏🏾
