What will we catch in our Lobster pots? We love working a small number of lobster pots from our small family boat. Such a wonderful and rewarding experience that often brings delicious rewards. Hauling our lobster traps by hand makes it all the more rewarding when you catch something to eat. Join me and me son as we check our pots and talk you through the things we catch. Teaching the next generation of fishermen about the marine world and how to care for it - Including conservation regulations that are in place in Cornwall UK.

Nice work John, Here in Maine coastal waters, we also have an oversize rule. Any oversized lobster, male or female must be returned. You noted in a previous video, we must have escape ports on pots in case the traps are lost, "ghost gear".

We used a thin iron staple closure on escape ports that rusts away within around 6 weeks.(could be improved, new tech? as always...) We were required to check every trap within 6 days. Two of us managed 800 traps for a living...

If the system works why try to change it. That sounds like a good days work. Here I plan my hauls simply around the weather.

@@TheFishLocker Yes, I think personal use traps can be left longer here. Still have to abide the regulations on notching and over and under size. We had a pot hauler and 10 trap strings. Still, it's a lot of work but I loved it.

Nice to see James out with you again. That's one way of getting around the two lobsters a day limit, you're probably taking just as many though. You never get many sizeable crabs and you certainly don't seem to eat them even when you do. I suspect that you don't really like crabs, I think that they're just as good to eat as lobsters. You never keep velvet swimming crabs either, in Europe they're eaten a lot. You videos are a great advertisement for Cornwall you always seem to have such fantastic weather. Eagerly awaiting the next episode.

US citizen age 42 here. I dont know how it was in the UK, but back in my childhood days, DisneyChannel was a paid cable channel that most people couldnt afford. A few times a year they would have free trial periods where they would show the channel for free in order to lure new subscribers. We didnt have internet or anything back then so you had to just randomly check the fuzzy channels every now and then to see if a free preview was showing. I was always fascinated with Fraggle Rock when I could see it on the free preview week/weekend.

Thanks dude I so love your channel, it reminds me of when I was younger. When I was growing up my parents had caravans at Sandy Bay (Exmouth).. I loved rock pooling till I was old enough to go out on dads boat and had my own 12' open boat at about age 14/15. I also loved beach casting but was never interested in course fishing! I would have a boat now but I'm too disabled so your channel is second best to being able to do it myself! Thanks again.
