I’ve got the 3.6 TDV8 that I’ve been running for about three weeks so far and I’ve completely fallen in love with it and I can’t verbalise why haha. It’s gotten under my skin and I keep finding excuses to just pop out and drive it. I’d love to try a 4.4 for comparison. Great video, Lucy.

Had both, and love the 4.4 diesel, love the way it just waffles down the road, then has the power to push past most on the road with ease, mines last of the year 12s, did have a 2015 but its not as good, due to the touch screen, lower roof, love the real knobs and buttons to play with in the year 12.
@exploringwithjacob86417 ай бұрын
In my personal opinion! The 3.6 TDV8 pre facelift so 06-early 09 is the best of the bunch! Best looking and doesn’t have a DPF to worry about! I know the 4.4 TDV8 is probably a good bit faster and smoother on the motorway with its 8 speed gearbox but you only have to do an EGR Delete and stage one remap on the 3.6TDV8 and it will be pretty much level with the 4.4 TDV8! I will be keeping my 3.6TDV8 for a long time! I am looking for an early 4.2 supercharged L322 to pick up as a project however! I think the petrol ones will be pick of the bunch in years to come!

For years I was worried about fuel economy, never bought what I wanted because of it, yet always had big bills on cars that would amount to a lot of petrol so in the end I just went and bought what I wanted. Had that car a 4.4 petrol V8 for nearly a year now, not only has it been one of the most reliable cars I've ever had, the fuel economy really isn't as bad as everyone was scaring me off with! At the end of the day go for the one that suits you. In this case if it's the 3.6 it's a great engine, or if it's the 4.4, also is, don't let the fuel economy put you off!

Had all 3 l322 diesels. 4.4tdv8 is the nicest especially with the 8 speed box but has DPF so when I went back to an l322 from a l405, I went for the 3.6tdv8 with 6 speed (like you had) as no DPF to clog on short journeys but it does need more revs to do anything where the 4.4 hardly goes over 1500rpm. More 3.6tdv8 because it was around for 5 years not 2 like the 4.4tdv8 but the 4.4tdv8 is more efficient especially on long runs. 5.0 will be the 6 speed again in the l322.

Although the L322 isn't a car to zoom around in pop it into sport as you pull onto a dual carriageway and watch it rear up after the second turbo spins up at 2.5k. I've had both and prefer the 4.4. It feels a more refined engine. Watch for DPF issues if you do short trips. If you do get a DPF full warning use sport mode to keep revs near 3k and a quick run down the motorway until it clears itself - the warning will clear on the dash. I have an intermittent "water in fuel" warning which is a common issue with the sensor on the fuel filter, but the part is tricky to get now.

Had a 2011 4.4TDV8 since Dec 2022, bought for £10,400 with 109k miles on it. It's a total pain in the arse but I wouldn't be without it. It's basically an anachronism on wheels. It had had £1400 spent before I bought it including new airbags all round and under sealant. I bought a new spare wheel (£250) on eBay and the car has had two tyres (original Pirelli Scorpion 20". It's also had about £2000 maintenance in that time including two new calipers and rear discs. I was going to buy the Disco 4 and turn it into an overlander. Found that the DDRR actually better value and more presentable. Engine and gearbox perfect for the car. Don't buy them and expect to have a cheap car, needs ongoing maintenance. Mine now has 120k miles and very pleased with it.

I have the 4.4 TDV8. In fact, it’s virtually the identical twin to the one in this video. 3.6 or 4.4?…oh come on, be serious…4.4 all the way! It’s just better in every way. There is no point in even thinking about a 3.6 unless it’s priced accordingly. The 4.4 is so reasonable to buy right now that any 3.6 on the market absolutely HAS to be at least £2k cheaper to make it worth considering…the end! As for all those 3.6 owners who think that’s harsh, it’s only the exact same thing that they were saying about TD6s just a few years ago! Ironically, many TD6 owners are now upgrading to the 4.4 now that the prices have all come down. Bare in mind though, that there is an insurance hike on at the moment for Range Rovers.
@azamshah5627 ай бұрын
The best engine in the L322 is the M57 BMW TD6 engine in the early 2002-2005 models. These engines are the most reliable and once you remap the TD6 engine you have suitable power and economy. The real problem with these was the Gearbox and torque convertors going wrong

On the boot size, the one thing I’d say is if you’re a skier absolutely must get a model with a centre ski hatch. Without one the boot isn’t quite long enough to accommodate a pair of adult skis with the seat folded down (you have to put them in at an angle which is a bit annoying as it encroaches on rest of boot space. Apart from that, fabulous.

@ianmacdonald91257 ай бұрын
Hi Lucy, The 3.6 and 4.4TDV8 only share the same engine block. The 4.4 is a far superior engine, with up graded turbos and EGR valves. The most commom problem is the oil cooler leaking in the central Vee of the engine. Most leak at around 80.000 miles. If you do a lot of short stop, start journeys the DpF warning will pop on. The vehicle needs to be driven asap after the warning. For the DpF to regen it only need to be driven at 38mph, normal engine temperture for the regen to start.
