this customer told the owner of the shop that he did not want his vehicle painted with a flat finish. He wants the factory peel to match the rest of the vehicle. normally we all love to get a glass finish but there are times that you will need to match the finish or redo the vehicle.

Welcome to the channel and yes believe it or not some people like the factory peel in their vehicle. They don't want the vehicles to look like they've been repainted a lot of painters try so hard to make a paint job look glassed out so that when it's time to actually leave the texture in the vehicles that don't know what to do. Those are just things that separate average painters from great painters.

Hey bud I'm a painter too, and do appreciate the humor and honesty in your work. I'm 45 been doin body and paint since I was 15 ish. In 30 years I've learned a lot too, but every once in awhile it doesn't take much to miscalculate some of the variables. I currently have been spraying thru an iewata gun, sure that I spelled that wrong...I think it's 1.3, I do like it very well as a catch all, but it's slow to put the clear down...in some ways I'm ok with that cause I can make my coverage thickness very precise and consistent. I hate fixing runs so I virtually never get em with this setup, even in cold air winter, ( I'm in Minnesota). Sometimes slower is better, but alot can be altered by richening or leaning out the gun too. It's a fine dance and every environment varies. Aswell as everyones painting techniques. Just a quck example I double gunned a complete today with my boss, we each took a side, both of us different style, pace and guns, finish looks the same in the end!

Thanks for the nod man we do have them days....! For our shop we have been fighting a slight problem with fisheye dimples. Only a few random ones and usually they will cut buff out but it's still not good enough for our standards. We got the best of the best in the air line setup but it's still kinda happening mostly in the summer. You think maybe the humidity makes it worse. Love to hear your thoughts, and love your talent and showmanship

@@steveregehr8289 thank you sir 💪🏼 and I'm not quite sure. If you have the best of the best sounds like a real high end shop. All of my stuff is over 50 years old, old piping, compressor has oil all over it. We did install a new devilbiss dryer in the booth. But only because the old one was leaking air, I never get fisheyes. Could be outside contaminates, Maybe a building next door spring chemicals, maybe diesel trucks nearby, I've seen things going on a block away from previous shops that were causing fish eyes.
@steveregehr8289
@steveregehr8289 Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks I'm gonna catch back on that thought quick. All I can say is it's fairly consistent fish eyes on every paint job. Nothing horrendous but still a bit more than can be buffed out perfectly. We are body shop only no detailing or such with silicone products. But it is in a strip plaza industrial work area so maybe something floating in the air is possible. It's been puzzling I would love for the KZbin community to help cause we literally have tried all the steps we need to take and it's still happening. Not badly but just not quite right. Thanks again!
@thetriggerman954
@thetriggerman954 Жыл бұрын
@@steveregehr8289 I've even had a few bad batches of mixing cups where the silicone mold that they make the cups was still in the cups. So many things it could be. You can call the paint company that sells you paint and they can come out with equipment to test the air line to see if it's in the line or not. I forget the method they use but there is definitely something they use to check your lines. Process of elimination

DIY / Weekend warriar here. Yeah I bought the 4000 B RP from SATA when it was new and got the 1.4 ended up hating it. A 1.2 might be nice. I have an Iwata WS-400 EVO 1.3 now and hopefully I won't have issues with it being too small like you mentioned it's not that hot here. If I want glass I can cut and buff I don't spray very often. It's just when you have those certain customers that know what they're looking at and they don't call it out until the vehicle has been put back together cut and buffed, detailed, and ready to be picked up. That's when they hit you with they don't like the finish and you have to do the whole job over that stuff is gut-wrenching It's happened about five times in my whole career. Yes exactly right if only part of the vehicle is being painted then you should always match what's on the vehicle but spraying an entire car most of us go for flat glass look. Yes Gabe, I switch left and right hand during bass and clear coat. Few years back during Corona times I developed lateral epicondylitis in my right arm and I could not squeeze the trigger for about 2 months luckily I can spray with my left hand If not I would have been completely out of a job. Good catch. You're the only one that caught that lol. You're paying attention. Try to learn to paint with both hands it could save your ass one day like it did me. 💪🏼

Ive had Iwata Sata and now just got the Sagola 4600 I have the dvr red cap aqua,and the green. thinking about getting that silver one. for now i use the red dvr for my clear and like you i use the wb aqua for my base coats. using the 1.3 tip and usually some where around 3 to 3 1/2 turns out on the fluid . shoots nice and lays out clear very well. my Iwata always seemed slow and liked my Sata so im used to speed when painting. fact my Sata was 1.4 lol a real hoser. this Sagola seems to be in the middle.. happy i got it. how do you like the silver cap compared to rest of them?

So I have an good question for you! So some people say they rip out the screens in the pps cups for to spray metalic base but why cause if you strain your paint through an strainer before putting it into the cup then shouldn't the material go through the built in paint screen?
@thetriggerman954

I've never used PPS cups. And I've never heard of anyone doing that. Doesn't even make sense why would they make a system with a filter so small that would trap metallics? Hey Trig, I’m getting an outrageous amount of overspray to the point where the other panels will get white and I’ll have to color sand to get the shine back. What do you think the problem might be?
@thetriggerman954
@thetriggerman954 Жыл бұрын
Color sand sounds like you're still spraying the base coat? And if you're taking about while spraying the clear could be a few different things, gun could be putting out more over spray than your booth/garage can eliminate so maybe better exhaust system, pressure could be too high, maybe use a medium or slow activator so that the panels will stay wet longer and the over spray will have a chance to melt into the panels. Just a few ideas of the head. 👊🏼
@Jason-zr6il
@Jason-zr6il Жыл бұрын
@@thetriggerman954 Yes, during clear coat. I made sure clean my gun was clean, I turned down the pressure, I played with my distance from the panel, I use medium hardener. Could be ventilation because I spray outside underneath a tent but I just recently started get this problem.

I got the 4600 w the 1.3, I like it but 5550 1.3 w the I firehose in comparison. Got myself in trouble a few times ngl. Unless it's a hood cannot go full throttle. May not make sense but sometimes when I want to play with texture I'll use slow hardner and on my 2nd coat, when it's still open, I'll do a quick drop coat to bring out some peel. Same if you want to make it flat, just slower and closer. Lol kick in the door waving the .44
