That's going to get made over the weekend. Thanks. I saw the recipe in the book but didn't have any fennel seeds. Then I bought some and couldn't remember what for! I think I'll make some of your Mum's Garam Masala too, to go in the recipe.

Isn't that the worst? You buy an ingredient but forget what it was for. I've had a package of coconut flakes in my cupboard for probably 2 years and still can't remember what recipe I bought them for.

I honestly thought it was gonna be chickpeas with mango or garlic pickles 😆 looks lovely. I really like the mango pickles i wonder if they would go good with this? I'll have to try it and see.

Question about mustard oil. Should I always take it to smoking point first whenever I use it ? I have a lot of recipes that specify using mustard oil and only a couple of them mention allowing the oil to smoke first.... Nice to add a different chickpea recipe to my mix, being a vegan household, we use a lot of chickpeas and I'm sure this will be a pleaser. Thank you 😁👍🙏

Yes, let it reach the smoke point before proceeding. Let it cool a touch if you need before adding whole spices or whatever.

Mustard oil, with its pungency, lifts the flavor of a dish to a whole different level. I never used it until recently and it elevated a simple aloo-gobi or an aubergine subzi to another level! Like this chick pea recipe, these dishes being minimalist the oil used makes a big difference. Might just be worth the trip to the store.😁

Pickle? I think this is more chickpea gravy with pickling spices. Pickles are things you preserve for a long time. Given the amount of water here, if you call this a pickle, there'll be a whole lot of people in hospital. Please be more careful

I took it to mean she used spices typically found in the pickling process. As always, heat levels can be adjusted depending on what you like or can tolerate. Chetna likes spicy, if I'm not mistaken. I don't believe she's calling it a pickle. Maybe she'll come along and explain it better.
