My second year of gardening in a small space until God answers our vision of owning land to do more. Planting herbs this year with seeds and plants, hoping for success. You inspired me to start an apothecary in my kitchen- hubby cleared a whole cabinet area for me just for my medicinal herbs, jars, and other products

I'd love that dream. But reality is at my age, and money is a big factor. I'm blessed with what I have and am extremely grateful. I can and do grow as much as possible. Currently, beds are full. As I harvest or plants age out, I'm ready to fill the hole. This is my 2nd year growing and my 1st year weighing and keeping track. I am currently learning more about medicinal herbs for the future.

Ohhh you answered my wish. I wanted someone to show how to get medicinal plants going…..I need comfrey, camomile, replant echinacea, and some others…..I find proofing my seeds on wet paper towel germinates them and they’re easier for me to plant. I started garlic in plastic water bottles and planted them in cardboard boxes tucked into my kitchen garden next to the house. I took out rose of Sharon….such a pain it drops seeds everywhere and then there’s little trees to pull. I have just two I’m keeping because the leaves are edible….also took hostas out because they always get ugly later in the summer and calls in the deer to devour them….

You really are a kindred spirit as Anne of Green Gables would say. My plan is to start my seeds this weekend too and most, if not all, of the same medicinal seeds. One trick I saw Kevin from Living Traditions Homestead use when planting tiny seeds, is the wet end of a toothpick. It allows you to just pick up a couple of seeds at a time and then touch it to the soil to plant. I think I'll try putting seeds on a paper plate or towel to spread them out a bit so I don't get any of the extra seeds close to the wet toothpick. I don't have the space to plant the whole seed packet or plants later on. 😉

@@TheHoneystead Hollyhock has been a nickname I've had for almost 36 years. My employer at the time had 2 Holly's and it got confusing how to page us over the intercom. One of the managers started calling me hollyhock. It stuck and I loved it because of the flowers as well. 🌺

Great video. I am slacking, too. I just got some trays in so I can bottom water. I finally got Holy Basil. I love Basil and learned last year to add it it to lemonade - so good. Boy, I could have used some Lemon Drop a few weeks ago. I need to get some seeds there. I love planting herbs. It is like an addiction to me lately, esp the more I learn about herbs. I am in 6B as well and need to get myself in gear. We got snow yesterday. My poor Easter flowers were blooming. This weather is so crazy.

I just have had basil in the kitchen since last autumn. And it smells so good. But this video encourages me to get more herbs. Thank you.

Love what your doing. We moved SW VA last June and have been rebuilding our Mobil home while living in our camper. We are almost done !!! So I understand feeling desperate to start seeds, but no motivation because my setup isn't possible right now. I've decided to just set up a shelf unit with my heat mats and grow lights in our living room for now. I know you said your in VA but we're zone 7 a here. Would love to know if your dealing with similar soil conditions and what you've done to amend. Also would love to come check out your store and buy some honey. Lol I miss our old friend who was a bee keeper back in CT.

Thank you for this video. I am starting my winter sowing today(I'm behind) in zone 6A. New to me this year, is an herb/tea garden. I'm trying to treat my body better by reducing swelling and inflammation.
