Dear Laura, I am 65 and I miss my mother and grandmothers so much. I wish I could sit with your grandmother and talk and get a mother/grandmother hug. I was especially close to my German grandmother and can't imagine who I would be without the love she poured into me. Savor every moment with your Ankela. I wish I could meet you both. Thank you for filling some lonely hours with your channel. Warmest regards, Susan

Hello! I found her parent's journey interesting to me as as some of my Anabaptist ancestors fled from Switzerland to Germany then to America for religious freedom. So similar starting and ending place with extra countries in-between...although hundreds of years apart and different groups, both were seeking to follow God as best they knew how!

As a Jew who immigrated to Israel in 1979 at age 16, I can only begin to understand parts of what your grandmother went thru fleeing the reign of Hitler. I know from the perspective as a Jew and the Holocaust, but I have never really heard a non-Jew speak about their experiences from the Holocaust. Coming from a religious background, I would thither your grandmother's belief system helped her to cope and survive the different aspects of War. I am definitely interested in hearing more from your Ankele. Blessings, love and prayers for all, from Israel 🇮🇱.

Hi Laura, thank you for sharing your ,Ankela' with us! Although I’m German, I’ve never heard this expression, we say OMA or OMI. Maybe it’s from Switzerland? She’s have quite a travel during her life. Does she live in the same community like you or does she stay with your parents? She seems to spread peace. I’d like to ask her how she keeps that feeling, seeing what is going on in the world. I understood, she’d always lived in a Bruderhof Community, did she never miss a house or a flat for herself? Im coming from a big (but not peaceful) family and I couldn’t imagine living in a even bigger family, although I love to invite or visit people. I’d enjoy more stories of her life and opinions (although maybe controversial😉). I love knitting and crocheting, too and I’m welcoming every baby in our family, among friends and neighbors with shoes, hats, scarfs and blankets. And warm socks for everybody, who wishes warm feet… I know how to do double knitting, but I’ve never tried double crocheting. Interesting! Love for you all, Monika❣

Laura: your Ankela is beyond adorable! My own German heritage Grandma Theisen was equally very, very dear to me. She taught me, at about 4 years old the very last German in our entire family. She taught me numbers, through 30 phonetically, which I can still say phonetically! My Grandma Theisen graduated from Normal School ( Teachers’ College) in Fond du Lac, WI. The family had emigrated from Trier in 1849-1854 to free Wisconsin farmland. I’d love to hear more heritage stories from your Ankela, and look forward to them! Best, Suzanne Peck

What a beautiful conversation. That you have even one grandmother, to whom you can turn to for comfort and wisdom and advice! How blessed are you!? It was beautiful to hear how many times your Ankela (spelling?) has been a refugee... My best friends, growing up, were nearly all children of refugees! Racism is just such a stupid thing. Closely aligned with an unhealthy firm of nationalism they would see one country invade another purely for the purpose of land acquisition..!? How is it possible in this modern era!? Blessings to both of you, and all of yours!

My gramma passed away last week at 96 years old. She used to speak a little German and her mother spoke German. I have a question for Ankela, do you speak high German or Swiss German or some other dialect?
@dariusrad80582 жыл бұрын
Very nice, she is wonderful, I had one quite similar to her, but yours is prettier, however, since she is willing to answer questions I would like to raise one. The Bruderhof 's actual way of life is quite similar to one that American philosopher and linguist Noam Chomsky call Libertarian Socialism (nice) and at the same time the ideology of social cohesion (Emile Durkheim term) is a traditional version of Christianity (nice as well). If I am right, then my question is which of the two determine the interpretation of the other? In other words, is it your objective reality which determine your subjectivity or it is vis versa. Again nice to see madame Ankela.

Can she tell a bit more about the story about her parents - and the World War Two the Nazis etc do these memories of her parents lives - and thier background haunt Ankela ... ? I mean the terror of Nazis and concentration camp , how does Ankela think about this now with Russia in the background - vacuum bombing Ukrainians ?
