If I were in Okinawa, it would be difficult to pry me out of Yachimun Dori! I'm a potter by avocation and I would spend hours taking in all the handcrafted beauty. Your cup is gorgeous. Wonderfully wabi-sabi. Thank you, Shinichi, for another lovely and interesting stroll in Okinawa.

Shinichi, I am so glad you are traveling in Japan. A pottery museum! I am so glad you are looking for another pot...akin to your blue mug. When I was creating and selling potter, I was grateful to people who love to support those of us who make things by hand. I love how you talk about tea in Okinawa. And you are letting us experience how much fun it is to look at pottery...and look for something that appeals to you!!! People like you, supported me and helped me make a living when I was a potter! YAY!! Shinichi!,

You're like me. When I go on vacation, I like to shop for souvenirs I can actually use, like one nice piece of one of a kind pottery or something else handmade. That, or local antiques.

In Chinese, the "shishi" are called "foo dogs" and are symbolic guardian lions, usually placed at the gate or front door entrance to protect the home, temple, building structure, etc. Its origin is from China. They come in pairs. One is male and the other is female.

The origin is actually from India. The word singha means lion and since these dogs look like Lions they are named that. In most south east asian countries they are still called singha. Singapore also originated from singha (lion) + pura (city) which got modified to Singapore.

Thank you so much for showing the Tsuboya Pottery District. It brought back memories of my trip in 2016 for the Taikai. I was hoping that you would show one of the manhole covers, which I thought was pretty cool. BTW, not sure if you're familiar with 'The Pigs From the Sea" story. After WWII, the Okinawa was devastated and needed assistance in recovering. The Hawaii Okinawan community worked together to bring a bunch of pigs to Okinawa. I'm not sure if a lot of the vegetation was brought on the same boat or not. But my uncle was part of the contingent that brought plants from Hawaii to Okinawa.

What a beautiful city. I love how clean it is there. You can tell the people living there take pride in their surroundings. You're so lucky! My father was stationed there (Air Force) in the early 90s and he said it was amazing. Thank You for sharing!!

That was a fun trip! The tea was very interesting. I would probably drink it incorrectly with a straw😅 Do take the pottery class next time. It sounds like fun. We can paint pottery here, then they fire it and you pick it up in a couple of days. We'd take the kids for their birthdays and its great fun though I'm sure not comparable to actually making pottery! Adults enjoyed it just as much and seeing your piece when the colors are set is amazing! Very enjoyable video and thank you!

We visited this pottery district in Oct 2017 when we stayed in Naha. My first time and it was very nice, but I remember there were about 1,000 more people walking around when we were there. Naha has so many special areas/places that are so interesting to visit besides the usual tourist spots.

Brother, this was a great video! Walking down the residential streets brought back so many memories and yep, the Shi Shi dogs (which is what we grew up calling them) are everywhere, even in our homes...I have 2 of them myself. One of the favorite things about my house is, we have the Okinawan tile roof. One of the must haves for when we bought our home. But seeing all the pottery, the bubble glass, the rock perimeter walls....ahhhhhh! I loved it!!!! Thank you thank you!! Beautiful tea cup too! XOXO

Love your new mug! That blue is so pretty, even though it's not so intense. The buku buku tea looks like it was challenging to drink, sounds like it tasted good.

Your new cup is so earthy almost like it was carved from stone and the blues just reminds me of the streams flowing over the stones in the mountains. Amazing price for a one of a kind piece.

I love all the Fuu dogs outside the shops. We had some outside our front doors. But one broke. It must have protected us from evil. It was fine when we went to bed but when we woke up the next morning it was completely broken in two. Dad has yet to find some to replace them.

Shinichi, this was a fascinating video with so many interesting scenes. When you were sitting outside having the foamy tea and snacks there was a painting on a wall to your left. (At 22:00)It looked like an animal(cat ?) bending down and there was a caption of writing on the wall. Is it possible for you to tell us what it said? I am so intrigued by it. 🤣Take care and have a pleasant week. ❤🛫🙏🌎 P.S. Sending you and Satoshi, Happy Thanksgiving greetings!🤗🦃🍂🍁

I was a bit disappointed thatwe couldn't see the inside of the shops. I know you said you couldn't take us inside but another KZbinr is able to do it, he just asks the owners, have you asked them? I'd like to see the inside if the shops, he even I'd able to go into the back of kitchens at restaurants. Maybe in the future?
