As always, I enjoyed watching the video with you, Sweetheart! ❤️ It’s amazing how the other Haworthia recovered. It was a good idea plucking off all its offsets to give the mother plant time to recuperate. 👍 I have several questions please: 1. Why did you not give the roots a trim this time unlike the last time? 2. Why did you use the same sized pots? 3. Why is this video too short for a 10-minuter? 😂 It felt like it to me at least. The H. gigantea is so happy. All its heads have flower spikes! 😍 I am so excited for the in-depth Haworthia video. I’m sure it’s going to me amaaaazing! ❤️🤗🥰♾😘❤️

Thank you so much my love ❤️ Yeah I was lucky with that other Haworthia, it’s recovering well. 1. I didn’t trim the roots this time as all were healthy new roots. 2. I used the same size pot as it’s always better to under pot than over pot a plant. 3. Haha yeah it did feel very short, next one will be longer 😊 Looking forward to completing the Haworthia care video too. Thank you as always babe for all your love, support and encouragement ❤️🥰🤗😘♾❤️

They can really save the day,(and the plant) and keep it going on and on!!😊👍 I have a large haworthia colony in a 10 inch pot that looks like retusa, but I don't think it is. @Cactimania4 жыл бұрын
Haworthia don’t mind being cramped in their pot, always better to under pot than over pot which is why I didn’t find it necessary to put these two into bigger pots. Are yours still in their nursery soil? If it’s anything like the nasty soil they come in here from nurseries then it’s a good idea to give them a repot. I’ve bought Haworthia in the past that were potted in what can only be described as mud! Thank you for watching and commenting 🌵☀️🌼🌸🌺🏜

Great Repotting, and taking all that old soil mix off revealed lovely roots... and that very clumped Haworthia was very nice...😊 I noticed you used Akadama for the baby ones and not top dressing... Thank you so much Claire 😊 I’ve not used the Akadama as top dressing on more plants yet as I have an issue with it forming salt/mineral deposits after I water and it dries, it doesn’t look very nice. I think it’s to do with the compost because it doesn’t happen when I water the ones in pure Akadama. I’ve got a couple of Haworthia in the newer mix of pumice/lapillo/kyodama and so far so good. I’ll be a doing that video soon where I’ll try out the different combinations of mixes. Thank you for watching and commenting as always Claire, from Edith & myself, have a wonderful day 🌵☀️🌼🌸🌺🏜

Why is it do you think that the Haworthia have been holding their roots up higher in your old mix? Sorry if I've missed it being discussed on a previous video. Very interested to see your care video. And I was very interested about root shedding!
@Cactimania4 жыл бұрын
Good question, I think mainly because with my old mix using the molar clay cat litter, it was just retaining moisture for too long, which isn’t a good thing in itself, and roots were becoming lazy rather than working their way deeper into the pot for moisture. Haworthia with thicker root systems dealt with it better and were able to fill out their pots, like the Retusa, but these more fibrous root systems struggled with it a little. In the future I’m going to amend my soil mixture for Haworthia, I’d like to replace the horticultural grit for something like Kyodama so the mixture isn’t too ‘heavy’ as they say, this can contribute to lazy roots as well. This will be something else I cover in the upcoming care video. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌵☀️🌺🌼🏜

Thank you so much Molly 😊 These two look much better now than they did in the summer, they got quite stressed out with the hot weather. Do you mean the leaves/windows are dry? Cactimania I think mine are too dry and the place they’re at always gets too much afternoon sun. Do you recommend I put all my hawortias under my pergola in my vertical wall shelves?
@Cactimania4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think they’d prefer that Molly, as they are considered low light plants they do much better with filtered light or bright indirect light. I found out the hard way with some of mine under the grow lights, took me a while to get the height and light intensity right for them where they weren’t getting too stressed out. 🌵☀️🌼🌸🌺🏜

Have you figured out what it is about your old soil mix that Haworthias with fibrous roots don’t like? I can’t say why I have never educated myself on proper Haworthia cultural practices, despite having them in my collection. I’ll use your upcoming video to begin to remedy that situation.
@Cactimania4 жыл бұрын
Somebody else just asked the exact same question haha, I did cover it briefly in my soil mix video I did a while back, but it’s definitely something I’ll talk more about in the upcoming care video as back then I was thinking it was more down to soil compaction issues. Now I think it’s mainly because with my old mix using the molar clay cat litter, it was just retaining moisture for too long, which isn’t a good thing in itself, and roots were becoming lazy rather than working their way deeper into the pot for moisture. Haworthia with thicker root systems dealt with it better and were able to fill out their pots, like the Retusa, but these more fibrous root systems struggled with it a little. Gorgeous video! I’m new at Howarthias and succulents in general and this video is very helpful. But as someone who has had tropical plants all my life before now I am always in doubts about watering succulents. Do you have a primer on watering Howarthias and other succulents. I once tried bottom watering and killed a beautiful plant just recently. So now I’m totally mystified about watering. Live in an apartment in a Swiss city, so no possibility of keeping these plants outside... thank you for pointing me in the right direction if you ever see this message... Cheers, Judy
@Cactimania3 жыл бұрын
Hi again Judith. Getting to grips with watering any succulents can tricky at first, but I always say less is best. When Haworthia are in active growth, mostly during the cooler months, most of mine get a weekly watering. The larger plants in bigger pots about every two weeks. Haworthia can go dormant if the temperatures are too hot, especially nighttime temperatures, in which case they should be watered much less, maybe once a month or not at all if they are in a full dormant state. I never bottom water my plants, but I know growers who do bottom water without issues. The most important thing is make sure they’re planted in a well draining mix, such as what I used in this video. Another important thing is let the mix dry out completely before watering again. I will be changing up my potting mix for Haworthia soon and am working on an experiment video using some different mixes which will be uploaded to my channel next week. I’ll also be doing a Haworthia care video very soon as well. Thank you for watching and commenting. Happy growing 🌵☀️🌼🌺🌸🏜

@Cactimania4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, Haworthia are some of the best indoor succulents and do great on windowsills or near a bright window, most don’t like too much direct sunlight for too long though, they can get sun stressed and change colour but some growers like that look for their Haworthia.
