If you run a chain to the output shaft on the stock x3 transmission, you’ll keep 4x4. Just because you’re using the stock cvt transmission doesn’t mean it’s only going to be one gear. The hayabusa has an internal 6 speed transmission which means you’ll have 6 speeds and can still choose to be in low or high and have reverse. A chain is the easy option for the conversion, just keep a spare chain with ya
@giancarlocotero32093 ай бұрын
Also find out what the final drive gear is in high and in low and look up a gear calculator online. Use that and also the gearing from each gear from the hayabusa to figure out your sprocket size. It’ll probably be a small sprocket.

Tried this on a Smart Car, hated it and sold it as a project. The thing is lack of low end grunt "tourque" on these engines makes you have to downshift a lot and that killed the enjoyment factor ! Bottom line, it's a cool project to do for the KZbins and stuff, but won't be enjoyable unfortunately !
@thejourneyretold3 ай бұрын
I never thought about that part - probably have to ring its neck all the time to keep it up in the power. Did you put a turbo on it or just NA? I was thinking a turbo or a super charger (supercharger would be nice because then the added power is always there instantly vs waiting for it to spool)

@corolla05003 ай бұрын
@@thejourneyretold if you throw your email, I can email you some photos of the build. Or we can FaceTime and chat a bit. A turbo won’t help in my case as the torque was lacking quite a bit !
@thejourneyretold3 ай бұрын
I’d love all the info I can get! What about a supercharger? At least that way there’s no lag…? You do bring up a very valid point about the low end grunt that I never considered… basically I’d have to drive it like it’s a 2 stroke dirt bike and keep it up in the RPM a solid bit…
@zerostuntz92263 ай бұрын
@@thejourneyretold That's what they are made to do, keep the rpm's up and/or get your gearing ratio right between the engine factory trans. My 600's I always used a 15t front and 60th rear and could still do well over 120. My stock 120hp maverick will do 80 plus so if you can figure out what tooth sprockets to use, that 130cc will pull that thing along just fine. I actually have a bad secondary clutch that I cut the center spline section out of to do this in the future. Id run a 15-17 in the front and make the rear sprocket where it bolts on so you could change it out easily until you figure out what setup you want

No turbo, keep it reliable. You won't even get three thousand miles out of a turbo kit. Ask yummy nube. It's not worth the trouble. Spend a little money and get the 8 cylinder 400 hp hiabusa. It's about the same as a turbo kit. After it blows up your motor and way cooler of a project. Then street legal it.
@thejourneyretoldАй бұрын
What Yammy Nube video? Mind dropping a link? Literally the first I’ve heard of a turbo Busa around 250hp being unreliable. Everything I’ve always heard is as long as you stay at a reasonable power level like 250 they’re super reliable. You might wanna check your numbers on the V8 hayabusa prices… And the X3 is already street legal 👍🏻😎🤘🏼
@thejourneyretoldАй бұрын
That said, I think the hayabusa V8 is an absolutely incredible sounding engine and great power per pound and cc! 🏎️
@ericlessard50213 ай бұрын
The problem is the hayabusa transmission lower the gear ratio , the x3 trans lower it too. So you have to gear it up between the 2... so the drive sprocket need to be at least twice as big as the driven one and it is turning too fast for a chain. I think you should try a very big timing belt but i m not even sure it will last because of the load and rotating speed due to the gearing. If i was you, i know it may sound weird, but i would try pulley with multiple v belt like a lawn tractor
@thejourneyretold3 ай бұрын
I was thinking a blower belt or a SCS gearbox. I’m just not sure which one I want to try first. I KNOW the SCS gearbox will hold, it’s just heavy and will rob some power, but I know that part will be bulletproof! Lol

@@thejourneyretold i will sound a bit negative but doing a hayabusa swap is not a good idea... you will end up with a sxs that has 3 gear box... it won t be reliable... you should choose another type of engine and put one good sequential gearbox if you really wanna do a swap...
