@@Username-2 Busas have the advantage off the line (that's why they are drag strip favourites) because the long wheelbase lets you put more power down without being limited by wheelies, but on the go a modern superbike is faster. Sérgio Alves Has a lot to do with the rider! I got my 1299 new in 2015, and it’s a night and day difference from my 2013 gsx 1000. I mostly use them on the racetrack, but the Ducati is very hard to ride fast, because it’s a lot harder to keep the Front end down in second gear! My riding position completely changed coming out of turns and rolling on the gas. Now I can keep the Front end controlled long enough for me to grab third gear without applying rear brake or shifting early to control front wheel lift, but it’s a serious work out after just a couple of laps.

The VFR (earlier gens, anyhow. Not sure about the modern ones) feels different because the V4 engine makes it top heavy, and the steering geometry is more stable than aggressive. That's why it feels "tippy." The more modern sport bikes have lower COG and more quick to steer. They're basically in a state of dynamic stability. Put pressure on the bars, and the bike rolls the instant you do that. But everywhere in that lean, from 1 degree lean to 40 degrees, the bike is in equilibrium. The VFR needs to be manhandled a little. You throw it into a lean. Then you catch it at 40 degrees. Then it likes to hold that line. Trying to ride a VFR like a modern sportbike, the bike will feel unresponsive, particularly in a corner; it ignores ambivalent half-ass commands. To make precise and quick adjustments mid-corner, you gotta be decisive, giving the bars timely micro-twitches rather than just gradually changing pressure on the bars. You need to learn the language. You can't ask it. You have to command it. And it's a police dog that only responds to german. Concise and harsh. It doesn't understand a southern drawl. But it will do exactly what you demand, and nothing else, holding its line like a pitbull. Super rewarding in the twisties. Riding a "regular" sportbike is kinda boring in comparison. A modern sports bike is like a suit you put on and it's part of you. You think it, it happens. It's the difference between leading a dance partner and masturbating.

One measure I like to look at is "pounds per liter." It kind of gives an idea of how much motor you have (in terms of displacement) vs. the physics of inertia (obviously other factors come in like aerodynamics, traction, wheelying, wheelbase, drive wheels, forced induction, hybrids / electrics, etc. if you're comparing vehicles that are pretty different from each other, and of course different vehicles have different characteristics as far as torque curve, gearing, throttle response, engine nannies, flywheel effect, etc.). For example, I weigh 145. Add 5 for gear = 150. An MT-09 weighs 414.4, so total weight 564.4. Divided by 0.847 = 666.35 pounds per liter that the MT-09's engine is pushing with me on it. Now take a 263 pound rider. Add 7 for gear (more of it) = 270. 2020 Busa, stock, weighs 586, so total weight 856. Divided by 1.34 = 638.81 pounds per liter that the Busa's engine is pushing with a much larger rider on it. The Busa in the above example has a 58.2% larger motor than the MT-09, but it is also pushing 51.7% more weight around. And if you replace my MT-09's exhaust and subtract a couple of gallons of fuel from it, and keep the Busa stock and maybe add a backpack to the Busa rider, suddenly each package is pushing about the same amount of weight per displacement. Bottom line: a really big Busa rider doesn't have that much more motor relative to weight under him than a much smaller rider on, for example, an MT-09. We could use the Ducati 1200cc superbike or the Triumph Rocket III to see where the Busa lands. I do remember back in the day some wild Busas (not even the turboed ones) had like a 1500cc bore and stroke kit where they shed 50 pounds from the bike, at that point it starts to be among the biggest engine per weight you can ride. It's also interesting to bring in cars -- let's take the C7 Grand Sport at about 3450 pounds -- let's say 3600 with me driving -- and a 6.2 liter engine -- that's about 581 pounds per liter. Impressive. Of course all the forces of steady state speed and acceleration are increased by some factor on a two-wheeled vehicle, as opposed to a cage (this is even more pronounced on the water in a speedboat!), so it FEELS quicker and faster, and a fast bike is much cheaper than a fast car.
@bgbg4183 жыл бұрын
Haha that's a good take. The cross sectional area is probably the biggest difference maker there between a 145 er and a 265er. The 265 giant will basically be a parachute. Even nice and tucked! Edit: complete guess by the way based on a project I recently contributed to.

You can't understand how the engine can revv so hard for a 1344cc engine. The whole engine feels like it's made from solid titanium and inconel, the way it revs so hard, even harder than a 600cc. The way it revs, is just like a forced induction engine. It starts pulling so hard at 5500 rpms, you feel like it should sign off, and be done pulling by 9,000 rpms. But at 9,000 rpms, it has a whole additional level of violence ready to begin, up to 11,500 rpms. You only let off the gas because it's downright terrifying.

Yeah I’m an introvert. Most uncomfortable moment of my life, is riding my Hayabusa. It’s amazing how much attention this motorcycle gets. It’s been awesome therapy. Now I’m more comfortable around people💡

Just start watching your vids for getting back into riding. Couldn't ride while I was in Germany but I'm back in the US. I don't even care for the give away, just really into your videos bro. Thanks for vids bro

Yammy eagles canyon doesn't have the real estate for the busa, that's a cota track day for sure and according to my buddy who did it on an '06 it's still a workout.
@seeul8rwaynekerr4 жыл бұрын
The newer busa has a gear indicator built in. How about a test between this and the bmw k1200s?/k1300s? That's more appropriate. Both over 1 litre sports tourers, both 4 cylinder. Bmw has more Gucci accessories shaft drive and telelever suspension versus upside down forks and chain.
@jdacy4 жыл бұрын
A busa is not a sport touring bike. A k1200/k1300 is not in the same class as the hayabusa at all. A good comparison to the busa would be a Kawasaki ZX14

Busas are cute looking but I wouldn't trade my zx14 for anything else.

The Busa was extremely fast for its time but the later zx - 14 Kawasaki was considerably faster, & there are quiet a few bikes that now beat it, times change things move on.
@derekheckley94474 жыл бұрын
Peter Chown right. For 8 years the big Ninja has been consistently faster, and in the last few years plenty of litre bikes have surpassed it (and the Ninja). Suzuki needs a unicorn!
@havamal20004 жыл бұрын
Yammie referred to the creation of the Busa to defeat the CBR1100XX Blackbird. As an owner of that legendary bike, it would be great to see you review a Blackbird, if you can find one on Craig's List. The last USA release was 2003, so there should still be one or two of them available. It is an outstanding bike worthy of review and comment.

I need to stop watching your videos on my lunch breaks. I’m jealous of you guys riding while my motorcycle sits in my garage and I am walking 13 miles delivering mail with ice cleats on in 5 inches of Chicago snow. It just really makes me hate my life right now.

Seems you guys haven't ridden these big bikes in the twistys much. Once you learn how to handle the weight they will perform extremely well. I had no issues in the twistys on my Blackbird and even on my Concours 14 now. Tons of power at the flick of your wrist. Would love to ride with you guys sometime. Let me know.

In todays world of 1000cc "liter bikes" stock for stock with the weight reduction and high HP numbers a busa will have a hard time beating them. Yes they use to be the bad boy, yes they are still fast but no longer the situation. The new R1, gixxer 1000 and cbr will run against one easily. Now throw in a zx10r and bye busa. This bike just rip on top end. Turbo busa is on another level though

I've ridden a base bone stock gen 1 Busa...at the time i owned and rode a GPZ--1100 and before that a VFR-750. I found it to be a very very nice bike! Yeeh it could bend space time when needed but honestly i'm short (30in inseam) and i was able to flat foot the bike and on the highway you can just set up in top gear and relax. My favorite part was getting her rolling...no need to add any gas just slowly release the clutch. Now if you want to bend space time look at a VMAX....rode one ONCE.....it takes a serious level of skill to ride that bike. But a Busa...if bone stock and you are say over 25 and want a Cadillac of a bike that you can aim your front tire and go for 200 miles in one sitting.......this may be the bike for you. Also if you wan to convert your rear tire into super bouncy balls you can also do that too!

At around 5:30 you're talking about how you were a bit surprised at how well the 400 did during the 4th gear roll on. But the busa's gear ratio in 4th is also so much higher than the 400's.

Had to give you the thumbs up on this one. I still think youre a dork but you gained my respect by actually trying to run the busa through the corners. Wasn't no Rossi but you was doing it. Good job YamYam. Don't forget that you had the balls to do something that very few people had the balls to try. Good job and good video. Now cant wait to see you hit rev limiter in 1st and 2nd.
