Just a fortunate as y'all, having HBO as a kid. So much that was outside of being age appropriate, even the action and comic movies, with everything I "wasn't" supposed to see....plus movies I definitely wasn't supposed to see. This opening used to give me chills, as a kid (still does), like the studio logo openings for Tri-Star Pictures and their galloping horse, the drums for the 20th Century Fox logo, the orchestral opening of Universal Studios, or, later, the classical guitar opening of Dreamworks SKG. Watching movies used to be an event! On any given Friday night, in my house, growing up, hearing the start of this HBO opening would be followed by a incessant and excited yell from the living room "IT'S STARTING! IT'S STARTING!" Fight to bring back sanity, tradition, morals and values, people. What we had wasn't perfect, but it was 1,000 fold better than what we have today!

The effect when the O starts to light in colours is so well done and it looks contemporary. I have no idea how they did it so nicely as I rememeber "light" effects and CGI overall being a bit crappy in the 80's. Lols. When I was a kid, our neighbors had cable, we were too poor, but I found out if I connected the cable wire to theirs where the wire was touching their line, I could somehow get what they were watching on my TV. There was some fuzz, but otherwise totally watchable. They NEVER found out, it went on for years until I moved away. I put a little glue on it and it was covered by a bush. Don't ask me how or why, but I watched everything they watched for free even HBO. I just had to have my TV on channel 4. Now I could care less about cable, I'm internet only and can watch anything I want whenever I want.
