@K Sounds like a pretty standard narcissistic pattern there. It used to confuse the hell out of me as to why the obvious truth of "Your ideas are just wrong, change them and experience more success" doesn't penetrate their heads. Now from personal experience it seems that introspection isn't a universal ability for humans, some people literally cannot form the idea of being wrong in their heads, which means they will never learn why they keep repeating the cycle which, in the case of the guy you mention, ends up with lots of divorces. Then there's the trap of nearsightedness, where pickup artist techniques get "results" sooner than a more healthy approach. Meaning that anyone trying to form a relationship after using PUA their whole life will feel it's slow and not working, when really they're just being impatient or just finding out the person they're going after was incompatible sooner.

I'm a Japanese. I clicked this video without even understanding what exactly "pick up artistry" means(my English is poor). But as I watch through, I slowly realized this is about the book I once bought at the co-op store in my university looking for serious advice about romance only to throw away after reading first 30 pages or so saying "I mean if I were courageous enough to speak to 100 random women I wouldn't need this book..." That's right, a translated version of one of these books made it on the shelf of the co-op store in a JAPANESE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY. I didn't read through the book so I didn't really realize how misogynistic the book is, but man, this realization sent a chill down my spine.

@@joshyoung1440 How is a rant about being sick and tired of women somehow _not_ an “attack” (i.e. misogynistic commentary) on women? It’s very telling that this guy could figure out reasonable strategies for cohabitating with his hypothetical spouse, who is a man, but this guy hadn’t considered implementing any of those strategies with his actual spouse, who is woman. Plenty of men, who identify as cishet, are sexually attracted to women but that’s it. These kind of men only love, admire, respect, and enjoy spending time with other men, not women. They may identify as cishet but they’re only romantically interested in other men; subsequently, these kind of men are miserable in romantic relationships with women. The point the OP and I were making is that it would be helpful if people stopped forcing themselves to fit into a cishet box; they’re making themselves and others miserable. That one dude is repulsed by sex and the TikTok dude hates being in romantic relationships with women. It would be best for everyone involved if they stopped forcing themselves to do those things.

There was a point I was into it. For like a week, in highschool, when my self-esteem was low and my perception of my own body was negative and I had the personality of a wet carrot. I too thought, "How does one pick up women? How do I get a girlfriend?" Then I mellowed out. If there are any lads (or gals) out there struggling with this stuff, here's a couple notes: 1. You have to start loving yourself. Trust me, there's no bigger turn off than someone who's angry at themselves and lashes out at the world because of it. And you're going to be a lot happier when you go easy on yourself and learn to work with yourself instead of fighting yourself at every turn. 2. You have to make the most of being single. Because you're probably going to spend more of your young life single than in a relationship; AND THAT'S A GOOD THING. You should be taking that time to work on yourself and becoming a better person. Think of it like investment for when you do eventually meet someone, rather you've been working on becoming the best version of yourself than having them meet the sore and bitter version that not even you like. Have goals, have interests, learn skills, learn as much as you can. 3. I have no idea how to do casual sex well. I'll admit I'm not a six foot stud with abs you can grate cheese with and I've grown to the capacity of like, having the personality of wet beetroot, which is slightly more interesting than a wet carrot. But a lot of the time, casual sex isn't the thing you want. The thing you want is intimacy. And to get intimacy, you need chemistry and respect. For there to be chemistry and respect, you have to be empathetic. Not saying that's for everyone, if you just wanna _bang_ that's okay too. 4. Meeting people is not that hard; Join a club, join a sports team, go to events. They don't have to be outgoing things, you can meet people at your local Magic The Gathering tournament but you aren't magically going to become less lonely sitting in your room watching videos of other guys pretending to pick up models they paid. And the more friends you have, the better your support network, and the better the chances of you being introduced to someone you do click with. So go out and make friends. EDIT: struggle with making friends? Go to a place, show up regularly. Can be a twitch stream, a DnD group, a local dog park, a bar but just like, show up regularly. You'll meet people, sometimes just people who see you around and ask "I always see you around but I don't think we've ever spoken. Hi, my name is XYZ." Online friends count too. But try to also make some friends in your local area. Just when you're online, be careful of the kind of space you make friends in... Doomer 4chan boards that want to blackpill you? Stay away. 5. You have inherent value and you don't need a significant other to prove that. YOU HAVE INHERENT VALUE AND YOU DON'T NEED A SIGNIFICANT OTHER TO PROVE THAT. People are going to ask because people like gossip but, dudes, especially dudes, it is perfectly okay for you to not have a girlfriend. #4 really is the big one here. You can't be emotionally invested with someone if you don't know anyone, go out, make friends, and who knows? Maybe they'll be able to set you up with someone they know or maybe you'll get a relationship with someone you become friends with. Just remember that nobody owes you anything at all, if you're hanging around with people JUST to get laid then that's not great. If they say no then so be it, being single is 100% normal and if you actually cared about said person then rejection wouldn't change how things were before. Yeah, funny how that works out.... Turns out the secret to success in dating was to just be a decent social human being who doesn't turn into an asshole if things fall through. To any kids out there, that's also basically how you become popular, too, just be a reasonable decent person who doesn't freak out over BS that doesn't matter and try to get to know people.

As someone with a good number of very dear friends that have been severe victims of abuse and gaslighting, that whole part about "crushing self-esteem" made me feel ill. Physically _ill_ I've seen the truly horrific long-term effects that shit has on people. Heavy and constant suicide ideation, intense cycles of self-hatred that feel as though you can't do anything to help them. Fuck, my own wife _still_ tells me she doesn't deserve to be loved at times, even after all this time of slowly working to try and help her out of that sinkhole. These are not concepts I feel people really truly appreciate the severity of in terms of how disgustingly fucked up it all really is. Most of all, it's absolutely heartbreaking to see those effects in action, when close friends insist that everything is their fault and viciously attack themselves without mercy. It's not just heartbreaking; it makes me angry. It makes me incredibly fucking angry to see people like this get away with inflicting this suffering on people.

This pick-up 'alpha' culture is amplifying underlying resentment in some nerdy, awkward, standoffish people, and this sickening bubbling sludge of objectification and anger makes my favorite people to get to know a minefield. Anyone who wants to give someone else a relationship after being pursued, might very well just end up with one of these horrible beings that gaslight and abuse them, and leave lasting scars on their psyche. As an aside, Incels like to say "Below x/10, no chance buddy", and the 'alpha'-ness of these guys is what gets them the girl- no. Just no. Because there are plenty of guys that are "x" and have a s/o, but they arent so desolate and self hating as to be on those incel forums. The ones who are on those forums, are the pickup guys, so if they get some poor woman on the hook, thats the only result incels see. And to anyone thinking women are weak for being scarred after mental abuse purposefully aimed at their weakest spot during the course of a relationship, just go back to your forum and check out how many people say theyre mentally scarred because a woman said no or some shit, and they went on an angry rampage, or 'a switch flipped'.

this reminds me of the one time I was targeted by what I can only assume was someone trying (emphasis on Trying) PUA. I was trying to photocopy something when a guy I'd never seen before walked up and asked me if I knew how the copier worked, and ofc I tried to be helpful and briefly explained, though after a point I realised he didn't seem particularly interested and had just been waiting for his turn to talk. he then asked a series of questions about what year of study I was in and threw in a number of, honestly uncomfortable "compliments" and lines about how there was "plenty of time to get to know eachother" and it just baffled me bc anytime I tried to respond and carry on the conversation in a natural way, he'd veer into another line that was waaay too familiar and intimate for two people who'd literally just met. I don't think he even asked my name or gave me his, and nothing came of it, the conversation ended and I was left wondering what that had all been obviously this is pretty tame as weird interactions with strangers go, but I realised afterwards that what had made it feel so off was that I was essentially being treated like an NPC that you just had to nonsensically compliment or say the right platitudes to and some sense of intimacy or interest would... magically happen? I can only assume what had happened minutes before was the guy being told by his friends "look, there's a chick by the copier, try it out on her". and I'm not saying it's bad to try talking to strangers, or to not put yourself out there if you have poor social skills or anything (been there, trust me) but it feels quite dehumanising when someone is (very obviously, in this case) essentially making any random woman he comes across be a test subject for his pick-up lines. this guy wasn't remotely interested in me or even in having a friendly chat, he was just trying to chat up A Girl, and that's what doomed the attempt from the start, tbh anyway, great video hbomber, I initially came for the sherlock video and I've been working my way back from there :)
@eyesofthecervino3366 Жыл бұрын
I think you've really hit on something with the comparison to NPCs. I had a co-worker who would do this exact same thing (albeit in a much less direct way); any time we were talking, it's like he was just manufacturing a conversation where he could say something he thought would impress me and then ignoring what I was saying to jump back into his script. I could chalk a lot of that up to nerves and social awkwardness, but he would also put on a really fake personality whenever he was around me, like he didn't understand I could still see him whenever he moved more than eight feet away. It just created a situation where any time he was around me I felt like I was being lied to and manipulated. Weird stuff.
@_annoyed4692 Жыл бұрын
@@eyesofthecervino3366 I think most women have a story or two to tell about those dehumanizing creeps. Not sure how many of those there are, but they're playing a numbers game. Like any good scammer they know that you don't have to be perfect, or convincing. Have a few spelling errors in your "police report", have a heavy indian accent when you pretend to call from "Microsoft Tech Support", or talk like all you want is deliver your lines while completely ignoring anything your would-be-victim says. That might make 98% of people hanging up or walking away from you immediatly. But almost all of them would have smelled the fish before getting their credit card/dropping their panties anyway. So.. more time to focus on the 2% that are still there. This is not only sad for those 2%, but very annoying for the other 98%, and the only thing I can think of is increasing the opportunity costs for that numbers game. - Tell the tech support to wait while you turn on your computer and then leave the phone while doing something worthwhile. - Ask the PU'A' to white while you tell your friends you're leaving with him and then go back to dancing. They steal 5 Minutes of your time, steal ten of theirs.
@eyesofthecervino3366 Жыл бұрын
@@_annoyed4692 That's an interesting idea, though I'd definitely recommend caution with antagonizing strangers who already don't see you as a person. Sadly, I don't think my coworker was playing a numbers game at all -- in a way I'd much prefer it if he had been, since then he would've been willing to cut his losses instead of hovering around me for months trying to figure out how to manipulate a direct "no" into him getting what he wanted and becoming progressively angrier that it wasn't working. He just genuinely didn't seem to understand that I was a whole separate person with my own feelings, and that part of being a good person is being able to respect other's feelings, even if they're not what you wanted them to be. I think a big part of why it continues to bug me is that I have absolutely no idea how I could have handled things differently, or how I would handle it if it ever comes up again. I don't want to be accused of being some crazy chick who overreacts to any time a guy opens a door or lifts a box for her, but when a guy's throwing himself in your personal space to open doors and lift boxes for you, then stepping a couple of yards back to start throwing stuff around breaking shit when that doesn't develop into a relationship . . . I don't think it's subtle how that's going to end up. I don't want to have to go through that again.

It's weird. I remember this home party with some exchange students. There was a Belgian guy who had been talking with a French girl all evening. She eventually had too much to drink and had to go to bed, which was convenient as the party was at her place. The Belgian guy was confused. He didn't know whether he should have gone with her. More than that, he was feeling a bit guilty for not having done that. I asked him why that was, and he became even more confused, because he didn't know. We talked about how men are instilled with this idea that we should pursue sex whenever the opportunity arises (regardless of whether the other person is in a position to make that choice or not, I suppose, it was kind of implied in the conversation but never explicitly stated). We concluded that it was best that he had not gone with her, and he seemed like he had some thinking to do. We, as a society, should not be bringing up boys this way. This is why conversations about consent are very, very important. This is why we need to have serious talks about what masculinity means. Ps. We can be friends with women. I'm good friends with my ex, and plenty of other women. If sex is the only reason I'm interested in a person, either she isn't very interesting, or I'm completely ignoring everything that makes her interesting as a living, breathing human being. I think we've been taught that gender roles (not genitalia, but how we're expected to behave) are more important and imperative than they actually are. That's how I see it, anyways. It was taught to me, and I taught myself out of it.

It says so much that so much of "The Game" is based around lowering a woman's self-esteem, which says very revealing about the kinds of people these techniques work on. As someone with low self esteem, I have been guilty of trying to maintain friendships/acquaintanceships with people who breadcrumb affection instead of a healthy give and take. These techniques really only work on girls who aren't confident with themselves and are convinced that the only way to feel complete is to bend to the every whim of their romantic partner. This is why "negging" is part of their technique, as any high confidence woman would reject these guys outright. It's truly disgusting as douchebags like these take advantage of shy sensitive girls, and *will* react violently if you question them.

LEO2001 ?? That’s so bizarre. Teasing is not a matter of backhanded compliments, but being a little rude/making a funny observation in the context that both of you know it’s not serious. Teasing works better as a way to flirt than this weird compliment-backhanded-compliment system, because you develop in-jokes and look confident when you can lightly make fun of someone. Additionally, some people can show interest in their teasing. People are interested in those who are similar or can make them laugh. It creates chemistry. If you rely on “uncertainty”, it becomes a waste of time for those who have other options they already know like them and don’t make passive aggressive comments about them. What's your interpretation of "over [sic] confident"? @ex-muslimlibertarianatheis90086 жыл бұрын
Rebecca Anonymous there's a fine line between being over confident and knowing your self worth. If you think those two are synonymous, then I'm afraid you're not a very pleasant person, to begin with. Fact is, there are some women who are overly confident and have dysfunctional behaviour with inflated egos. And there are some guys who may like the way a woman looks, who poses those characteristics. And get the fuck over yourself. Its not sexist to point out shitty behaviour that some women poses. They're adults, like men, and should be held responsible at an equal standard. Unless of course you're a traditionalist who thinks women should be coddled and protected like kids. Which would be very ironic, if you call yourself a true liberal.
@rebeccaanonymous26896 жыл бұрын
I think you may have missed the point of my comment...nowhere did I conflate overconfidence/arrogance with knowing one's self-worth. My question was, what is your idea of overconfidence? Your apparent endorsement of Roosh V, a man who believes rape should be legalized and that women shouldn't be educated, suggests that your interpretation of egotism in women might be more extreme than that of someone whose views don't align with those of Roosh. There's a not-so-fine line between honoring the fact that women are human beings and saying that they need to be coddled and protected, which I never implied. I would argue that your quickness to judge me as being full of myself and unpleasant without any real indication of either trait would be projection on your part, i.e., you're the unpleasant egotist here. Then again, I could very well be wrong about that; it's not for me to say who you are.
@ex-muslimlibertarianatheis90086 жыл бұрын
Rebecca Anonymous when did I endorse Roosh? I'm not a PUA, nor do I subscribe to his ideas. And as far as Roosh V wanting rape to be legal, that's out right false and propaganda. If you had actually read the article from his site, you'd realize it was satire. He even wrote "rape is wrong" in many if his paragraphs. But of course, I wouldn't expect you to do real research, and instead just listen to fake news and swallow it up like it's the holy truth passed down by the "woke"(aka fake journalists) individuals of society, right? I do think most women need to be educated on men's issues. Because it's often that I've seen women (especially those who lean on the left) feel threatened at the mention of the fact that men too face societal issues and it's not just women who are "oppressed". Feminists feel threatened when the MRA talk about legitimate issues that men face. Its almost as if they're too afraid that their lies will be exposed and their power over government and society will weaken. Hence the reason why they've threatened several MRA conferences with violence, and will try their best to shut down any dissenting opinion. Just look at what happened at the university of Toronto. Its pretty apparent that these people have no respect for freedom of speech and civil discourse, and would rather use dictatorial and immature tactics to "win". Which clearly backfired. And thank God it did.

Dane here. BANG Denmark is hilarious, because he liked the look of the (not explicitly, but eh, let's go with Aryan) Danish girls, but hated that they were so independent and indifferent to his displays of prestige, that him trying to appease their tastes made him feel emasculated. He actually had to listen, had to give them space, and had to not bulldoze their lives to date. And he felt that made him less of a man. Personally, as a dude in Denmark, I prefer my partners being able to handle their own lives (ie, being raised to not being supposed to be dependent on men, and not being subservient to them), and I like that I have part of the purpose in our home. I like dating people. I don't like dating property. Like, I'm bad at doing the dishes, but I'm goddamned supposed to. It's supposed to be OUR house. Not a life where a partner happens to manage my comfort when I'm done working. And I don't like women being dependent on me. Regardless of the economic freedom it gives the ones I should live with, like even if I were to be selfish, I like that people I date have their own stuff going on. It breathes life into mine when I hear how their day went.

18:23 so a book that I highly recommend is Why Does He Do That by Lundy Bancroft, because what Matt Forney here is advocating is basically wholesale abuser tactics. It's terrifying and also extremely informative. And it's an extremely good recommendation for this video in particular because a whole lot of these books aren't "how to pick up women" but rather "abuse tactics to control women's lives."

Andrew Connolly I've read that book! It was pretty damn fascinating, and kind of made me look at abusive men a different way. I've seen what abuse can do to a woman and I wrote them off as just being terrible people, but the book actually gave me insight into why these guys are the way they are and what might've caused it, without excusing their actions. Should be required reading for anybody tbh.

After I stopped laughing at the ridiculousness of these men who are so misogynistic and misinformed I realised their ideas are actually incredibly dangerous. These are attitudes and tactics of people who are abusers in relationship. The need to ‘own’ anyone is very unhealthy and destroying someone’s self esteem to do so is a classic domestic abuser technique. And domestic abusers are incredibly dangerous they are very likely to physically harm and even kill people they’re in relationships with. I’m really horrified that this is how some men think they need to act to gain self esteem. I think when it comes down to it they don’t realised that their self worth isn’t measured in how buff they are or how many women they’ve had sex with but with the content of their character. You will always face rejection in life but that’s ok it doesn’t define you. You are worth more than the notches on your bedpost. If you think otherwise about yourself then maybe you’re the one who needs to change and not the women who won’t have sex with you.

I always found the thought of putting my mouth near someones genitals to be somewhat offputting. Still, I tried orally pleasing women I dated in the past and what can I say - the pleasure you can give someone else this way is totally making up for it. Which may explain why PUA hate this thought. For them sex isn't about pleasure, but about power. And power should only be with men. And they are men. Who feel powerless. And blame women for that.

not to be the "homophobic and bigoted people are marginalized people in disguise" person, but it really does sound to me that the main purpose of pick-up artistry, if not companionship or sex, is approval from the community, aka other men. I don't think it's in a way that's specifically queer though, I think that these people genuinely despise other women so much that they've resorted to creating an echo chamber with other men like them.
@eyesofthecervino3366 Жыл бұрын
In a way I think of it as a natural consequence of phrasing being single or a virgin as an insult to men. I understand the idea behind the insult -- it's basically meant to point out that someone has some underlying character flaws driving people away -- but by telling people they're losers because they're single instead of taking the time the understand and spell out specifics (you don't take responsibility for your own actions, you have total disregard for others' wellbeing, you're an arrogant intolerable douche . . . et cetera, you get the idea), it moves the goalpost for being a good, successful person that society accepts away from being self-aware and working on yourself, and towards "make women act this certain way towards me." With, I fear, a dangerous edge of making men feel like they're being deprived of something they feel they should have, of their place within humanity, whenever a woman turns them down. Admittedly I think sometimes it can be a really solid comeback to call someone out for maidenless behavior, especially when they're publicly humiliating someone by openly sexualizing them -- I think it takes the blame off of an intended victim and puts the onus on the creep where it belongs -- but as a general critique of someone's character . . . I really can't help but see it as counterproductive and tremendously harmful.
@goingunder25489 ай бұрын
Tbh the way a lot of these men talk about sex makes me think they're somewhere in the asexual spectrum but probably think being asexual is a 'feminine' thing, or that would mean being part of the LGBTQIA+ community and they're too insecure in their own masculinity to associate with queer men.
