Question regarding the tabs for the CPT, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS. Can I use AMA version for my books or can I use the AAPC version. I have AMA CPT book and ICD-10-CM/HCPCS from AAPC. Please advise

For CPT it must be AMA edition. ICD-10-CM and HCPCS can be any version you want. They must be current year or one year prior. www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx

@@Sakira78 in another video she explains that tabs are allowed regardless of where they come from. They are only allowed to identify where in the book things are. They can't have any notes or additional information

Yes they do. The tabs are there to help you find things faster in the books. That’s it.

"Handwritten notes are acceptable in the coding books only if they pertain to daily coding activities. Questions from the Study Guides, Practice Exams, or the Exam itself are prohibited. Tabs may be inserted, taped, pasted, glued, or stapled in the manuals so long as the obvious intent of the tab is to earmark a page with words or numbers, not supplement information in the book. Altering, whiting out, painting, or printing over any pages within the code books (e.g., marketing pages, table of contents, reference pages, etc.) to supplement information is prohibited. Yes. I called AAPC and the representative said, that I could even use my 2023 to sit for my exam for 2024. So, yes it’s ok to use your 2023 book for your exam preparation. There’s new codes every year in October. You can put 2024 new codes etc in your 2023 book.

The exams get a refresh every January 1st to reflect the current calendar year's code sets. So, even though ICD-10-CM codes might update on October 1st, those changes won't show up in the exam until the new year rolls around. 🗓️ Feel free to use last year's books, but just know you might be at a slight disadvantage. For the full scoop, check out AAPC's official guidance: www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx " What year's books should I use? All AAPC exams are based on the current calendar year’s code sets, so we strongly suggest you use the current year’s books. The previous calendar year’s books may be used on an exam, but you would be at obvious disadvantage doing so. The upcoming year’s books are not allowed for exam use. The exams are updated every January for the new code sets."

@@ContempoCoding Thank you Victoria for clearing that up for me. I wasn’t informed that when I spoken with a AAPC representative. I’ve even watched several KZbin that said, I could put new 2024 codes in my 2023 book and sit for the exam. I’ll just feel more comfortable and confident to purchase new books. Thanks again😊
