Well not really every singer, it's quite often the choice of whoever is producing/engineering/mixing the track. Don't get me wrong, it has its uses, but this was unnecessary - Often this sort of thing is done when someone is too lazy to record another vocal take or the singer plain can't sing.

One of my two favorite Christmas songs! In regard to the vocal effect, I think it largely had something to do with the technological environment at the time. No one really realized how robotic and weird it was making things sound yet. Remember this is early 2000s.

Sorry, but for me, he ruined the song. No one could sing it like Noddy Holder did, especially when shouting "it's Christmasssss!!! " at the end. And Slade made it enjoying. Nothing like that here.

this is obviously autotuned, but I wouldn't blame all of it on Noel. we all know he can sing, though he did use autotune on Oasis 5th album, Heathen Chemistry (doubt it? check "Little By Little". the line "you know I didn't mean...". listen carefully. you'll notice that the "mea-an" part has a electronic, weird change of tone on it. go ahead!). what must've happened though is: 1- autotune (especially this bad-sounding kind) was high in 2002. It was a new thing and it's been used in a lot of musical genres, especially pop. which leads us to... 2- the audio producer from The Royle Family's Christmas Special in 2002 thought that it should have more of a "pop" sound and autotuned it. that's just my theory, anyway.

Lot of 'autotune' whining on here.... It's only in one part and to be honest it sounds more like a phaser to me. If you don't like Technology then don't buy music. Every instrument and vocal has effects added. Reverb, delay, chorus, distortion, pitch shifting, harmonies, guitar synths, and not all kevboards sound like pianos etc etc etc. I'm not a fan of the endless autotuning of modern vocals (many you wouldn't even know it's been added) but that's the way it is and it doesn't look like it's going to change in the near future, Ah well.
