Wow. US models don’t have Smooth Gradation and now confirmed no CMS, or 20 pt., and no co-processor. You’re forced to use Peak Luminance Medium for HDR to get correct tracking, but it caps brightness to under 500 nits. Sony needs to be raked over the coals for this. If they have no intention to fix any of these issues, then piss on them.

@Enderblaze14: To clarify, "XR processor" is a marketing term rather than a strictly defined hardware specification. While it may sound like it refers to a specific processor, Sony hasn't explicitly tied the name to any particular hardware configuration. So technically, it's not false advertising, since Sony could omit a co-processor and still use the term. This is similar to how companies market TVs with terms like "HDR1500" or "HDR2000" without necessarily delivering 1500 or 2000 nits of HDR peak brightness. Another example is Sony's use of "Triluminos Colour" for both quantum dot displays (like the W905A in 2013) and later KSF phosphor-based LED LCD TVs. That's why we spend so much time and effort on indepth technical testing, going beyond the marketing specs to provide potential buyers with the insights they need to make an informed decision.

hey my friend!!!, i heard that you can contact sony, I wanted to bring up an observation regarding the Dolby Atmos implementation on PlayStation 5. Could you discuss with the PlayStation team the possibility of optimizing the Atmos option to only engage when 3D audio is present? Currently, legacy games that do not utilize 3D audio leave the height channels inactive, making the Atmos option beneficial only for titles that support 3D audio. For instance, in a game like Lords of the Fallen, Atmos works flawlessly, utilizing all six overhead speakers. However, when playing a game like Dark Souls 3, the height channels remain silent, requiring users to manually switch to Dolby, DTS, or PCM multichannel in order to take advantage of their receiver's upmix capabilities. Implementing a dynamic switch that engages Atmos only when 3D audio is detected would significantly improve the experience for users with Atmos-enabled systems. Thank you for considering this feedback.

Finally, I’ve been waiting months for a Bravia 8 review from Vincent. This has to be a mistake ? I have it on my Bravia 7. This + the 20 point calibration missing, it's like the XR processor is absent and it has the features of the X1 processor. If this isn't a software mistake, it's complete fraud
@johnb49052 ай бұрын
We’ll have to see if this is a one off for the Bravia 8 or if it continues with other models moving forward.

PQ EOTF is the weak spot for Bravia 8. You can test this with Game of Thrones S4 E7 when Bronn met with Tyrion in his cell. The light shining in from outside was super bright while the characters (faces) were too dim
@playcold3217 күн бұрын
is PQ EOTF fixable with firmware or is it a hardware issue?
@jinso610017 күн бұрын
@ I’m not sure. I’ll have to check when I’m home to see if there is any firmware update. I also have a LG C4 42 inch(which doesn’t have brightness booster like the C4 55+ models). And the C4 has better/accurate PQ EOTF. There wasn’t a time when watching on the C4 where I thought certain scenes were too dim. On the Bravia 8, there were scenes that I thought were too dim but couldn’t figure out why it was like that. That’s when I learned about PQ EOTF

Any news on whether the v112.627.030.1 (20/11/2024) firmware improved any of the issues addressed in the video? PS: And also, how to calibrate the TV? I'm getting it tomorrow, excited :D Is it as easy as it is on Windows, like ICC files? Or do I calibrate it on the menu, by manually dialing stuff?

Going to assume because you didn’t give a recommendation, that it is not recommended at this time, given the competition? Any additional word from Sony if they plan to put back any of these features?

How are other manufacturers so far behind LG, which has been including 4 HDMI 2.1 ports for *years* now?

In house made vs third party. In this case, MediaTek is behind. Lg and Samsung makes their own processors

Is the Google TV UI finally rendered in 4K, or still 1080p? Is the ethernet port still 100Mbps?
@MattPilz11 күн бұрын
Ethernet port still lists as 10/100 in the manual's specs. Which to me is dumbfounding given this era of 4K high bandwidth streaming needs and how even a decade ago a person could pick up a gigabit ethernet card for $10. But then I check LG C4's and it is also 10/100. I guess many people go the route of buying a gigabit USB ethernet adapter, but I wouldn't had expected 2024 model sets to still only have 10/100 natively.

I know light sensors are considered heresy in these parts but I actually came to like the Auto Tone Curve on Bravias. It's a shame to see it absent here.

Does this model look better or worse than the a80l? I’m talking about the eyeball test not whether one has more tech features than the other?
@kjm02272 ай бұрын
I own the Bravia 8 and have seen the A80L. The Bravia 8 looks brighter than the a80l in nearly any picture mode (especially game) but is indeed missing the smooth gradation feature. Picture looks great to my untrained eye but other than lower input lag and more brightness in game mode (and most other modes) it’s not a major improvement over the a80l. I haven’t noticed lack of hdr impact myself but maybe if it was next to another tv in its range I might. If color accuracy, smooth gradation feature, and accurate picture tracking in hdr is important to you probably stay away from it. Which is weird because those are things Sony is typically known for. Otherwise, it’s a pleasing picture with a great operating system and for most people I think they’d be happy with it. but likely not up to Sony standards for what they charge and if it truly doesn’t have the XR processor people are expecting that’s a real deal breaker for many. you can get tvs with the same or better performance for cheaper. Undecided if I will return or not. Good tv, just not as good as they’re charging.

@@drunkhusband6257 I have the A80J and guess what, I don’t care. If I were in the market for a TV right now, I WOULD NOT recommend or buy Sony’s BS cripplewear garbage - not when it’s predecessors came with the full suite of picture processing tools that this crippled turd lacks. I don’t give a shit about the extra brightness, not when rivals like the S90D and C4 get brighter than the B8 - the A80J is plenty bright for me, thank you very much. As for input lag - gah! I’m no gamer, and I would not give two figs for that, not when Samsung and LG give gamers 4 HDMI 2.1 sockets. Go for the C4 or the S90D, don’t go for the overly expensive B8.

Sony has gone full half-assed full arrogance mode with everything they're selling now. Higher prices and minimum improvements across the board. They need to be humbled real quick and put in some real technology effort for improvement. However, all brands aren't doing enough to get past their complacency.

Xbox is losing the console War, Sony is becoming an Monopole, so Market Dictatorship always means the costumer suffers, like we can see with Prices for the PS5 Pro that doesn't even come with a hard drive lol. But let's face it, until LG gets their hands on QD Oled, Sony will always be dominating the TV market for years to come...
