The movie is a modernization of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. The scene in which Kat reads the poem was the first and only take. Kat's tears towards the end of the poem were real and not planned. Heath Ledger improvised the moment where Patrick starts playing with the fire. Kat and Bianca's dad refers to the TV show Dawson's Creek by calling it Dawson's River. Heath Ledger dated Michelle Williams, who was one of the main actors on the show, after they starred together in Brokeback Mountain. She is also the mother of his only child. Also, Julia Stiles and Joseph Gordon-Levitt briefly dated during filming of this movie. Btw you guys are so cute!

A fun rom-com from 1999 is "Blast from the Past" starring Alicia Silverstone and Brendan Fraser. "Shakespeare in Love" is a great rom-com from 1998 which almost nobody does reaction videos for. "Ever After" 1998 is my favorite adaptation of the Cinderella story starring Drew Barrymore. Some other Drew Barrymore rom-coms are "The Wedding Singer", "Never Been Kissed", and "Music and Lyrics".

I could be wrong about this, but the reason they mention that Patrick used to live in Australia and thus has a come-and-go accent was because Heath Ledger, who was Australian, was still working on learning to speak in an American accent.

Despite the fact that I'm a girl, I'm NOT a rom-com fan. However, this movie and Clueless are both different and interesting enough that I love them and rewatch them often. I remember the first time I saw Heath Ledger was in The Patriot and the next time was in A Knight's Tale, and he was blond in both of them, so seeing him with dark hair in this movie was a trip - but his charm and great acting shines through in everything I've seen him in. I was so shocked and saddened when I heard he had died, but it's possible he saved my life. When his autopsy report came out and it said accidental overdose I remember thinking, "Damn, lost another great one to drugs", and I kind of blew it off. Later on, I read that he was taking prescription drugs that depressed his breathing - Xanax, Loritab, Valium, and one other thing I think - and I was taking all 3 of those at the time and had been waking up groggy and a little breathless. I got with my doctor and we adjusted my meds to make sure something like that didn't happen to me. Now that I'm older and suffering from the insanity of insomnia, I can totally understand wanting to get some sleep so badly that you might take a higher dose of meds than you should.

I was a big fan of Joseph Gordon-Levitt in my teens due to him being on the tv show 3rd Rock From The Sun and so when I had heard he was making this film I wanted to see it. When the trailer released and I saw several other actors I liked at the time like Larisa Oleynik, Andrew Keegan, etc which I knew from other tv shows, movies, etc at the time it made me excited to see the film even more. And it’s still a favorite movie to watch from time to time. Although a favorite memory related to this film was a time when a friend’s birthday party included playing charades and it was movie themed. My sister’s boyfriend at the time got this movie as the clue and so the scene he decided to try to act out in hopes we’d get it was the singing in the stands scene. I think most of us were baffled because at the time the movie was still very recent and all of the other movies prior had been older films. Thankfully one person did make the connection and got it right. I’m glad you both enjoyed the movie! 1990s films? Hmm… Angels in the Outfield North The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy Blast From the Past The Other Sister Wing Commander Never Been Kissed Election Trick Mystery Men Double Jeopardy Three to Tango Liberty Heights The Power of One Krippendorf’s Tribe Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss Shakespeare In Love Playing By Heart The Beautician and the Beast Jungle 2 Jungle B*A*P*S Kiss Me, Guido In & Out Bio-Dome Son In Law Encino Man Blank Check Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey I can’t think of any more off the top of my head. The 1990s were my tween and teen years (I turned 12 in 1990) and my mom worked at my city’s shopping mall so knew all the staff and managers in all the businesses including the cinema so my sister, friends, and I often spent weekends going to see movies there or renting movies to watch. Plus there was still the monthly family gatherings either with my paternal extended family or maternal extended family where we’d also watch rented movies or go to the cinema (or if visiting family in Wichita, Kansas during the summer to the drive-in there). We also had some movie channels with our cable subscription (in rural northwest Oklahoma it was the way the companies tried to entice folks to sign-up for cable tv by the single provider so they’d throw in a few movie channels as part of packages…but never Disney Channel or other premium channels that were known to be for families, those were always separate and costed a lot so very few people I know had them other than my wealthy cousins and a wealthy neighbor whose kids were popular in the neighborhood because they had a pool and a trampoline…and were the first kids on the block to get a Nintendo back in the 1980s). Some of the films on the list are films I saw later either via friends in college or when I worked a retail store that sold VHS/DVDs of movies (and as employee we could borrow them to watch). I also tried to think of films that I haven’t seen a lot of reactors on KZbin do yet since that might help bring new people to your channel who search for those films. I mean, that’s how I got started watching reaction channels in the first place is that I was searching for a clip from a film and KZbin’s algorithm also recommended videos of people reacting to the movie and since it was 2020, my job was shut down, and I was home a lot more than I was used to I ended up watching a few videos from a few channels and now with channels like yours I have the notifications set, but KZbin’s algorithm will still recommend your videos at the top when I open the app on my phone or the site on my computer (though I keep the notifications on because I don’t know if it’ll ever stop doing that and I don’t want to miss any). Great video! Love seeing you and your gf sitting on the sofa watching together! It’s like watching movies with friends!

Amazing reaction!!! This film is based on the play The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare. Four years ago I auditioned for the play and I got the lead, Petruchio (Patrick Verona in 10 Things I Hate About You). It was the first time I got a starring role, and I didn’t even expect to get it. I thought that I didn’t fit the image of a leading man. I worked harder than I ever had and made sure that we gave a great performance for it. I love this movie. It is one of my guilty pleasure movies and I followed Julia's and Heath's careers from this point forward. I was already a fan of Joseph Gordon Levitt from 3rd Rock from the Sun and of course Larisa who plays Bianca and also played his girlfriend on 3rd Rock. Larry Miller (dad) is one of the best supporting actors of my lifetime. I'm not a big Taming of the Shrew fan, but this version is charming. So many of my favorite teen or teen adjacent movies are more dark or horror light than comedy, but from the 90's that you haven't watched, Never Been Kissed, Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, and Dick (Michelle Williams, Kirsten Dunst) set during Richard Nixon's time in office (he being the Dick in question) are funny and for high camp, Johnny Depp, and a musical, there's Cry Baby. For dark teen comedy I'd go with Jawbreaker, which is relatively obscure considering the girls who were in it. Way better fashion and much lower body count than Heathers, but way meaner than mean girls. There are others, but I don't really like the Pygmalian story or the Cyrano story, so seeing them redone by high schoolers are not at the top of my list unless very well done, which leaves out a lot of teen comedies. The 00's were better. Sugar and Spice, John Tucker Must Die, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, The House Bunny (college), and Get Over It. The absolute most charming is 13 Going on 30 where a thirteen-year-old girl makes a wish on her birthday and wakes up as Jennifer Garner, a sort of Freaky Friday with herself and time travel. It's really good, though. Oh, yeah, Freaky Friday. The Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsey Lohan version, not the Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster one, which has its merits, but moves so slow by today's standards and isn't as fun. I've got more that are out of the teen or teen adjacent area that are really good. Some starring Friends' cast members. If you get to that.
