Wow. I thought I'm the only had this kind of relationship. Mine lasted 10 years with every breakup I bring up ended with my ex hurting himself being burning himself with iron or taking the nearest sharp tools to stab his own hand. Everytime he does that I always give in. And moreover I literally have to pay for his everything. Like clothes, house installments etc. Yeah we bought house together 😭 Finally I had the courage to break up. Now I have a small happy family. So Sylvia I totally get you and glad you are able to walk out of it.

I asked him how he could do that morally. He said he broke up with the girlfriend so he could date anyone. I felt disgusted by this, even though he was technically correct.

The tree analogy is very funny! Have you seen those coconut trees that grow slanted(bent by the wind)? And some trees grow slanted 1 way before a branch/trunk grows in the other direction, resulting in a non-linear growth towards the sky. I guess the slanted trees experienced trauma? 🤣

I've a friend in her late 20s going through exactly this but she's gonna marry the guy! Sylvia took that trip to Taiwan and that helped her clear her mind and saw a new perspective. I wish I could tell my friend to go on a getaway but the country she's in is under lockdown now. So sad that she's signing her life away to this type of man with parents that spoilt him. She's at the stage of convincing herself that the man will change for her one day. Wish she could see that a female being 28 or 29 does not mean she *must* get married or else....

Get that friend to listen to this podcast, especially at the 26 min mark. Also remind her to stop treating this man as a project to change for the better. He won't. There's a good quote out there that says 'The problem is women think he will change, he won't. And men make the mistake of thinking she will never leave, she will'. She'll need to be brave enough to love herself first and understand that her value as a woman does not need to be measured by youth, beauty, and fertility aka the ability to marry and have kids at a young age.
