The first two Thor movies weren’t perfect but they respected his character. I was so excited for Infinity War Thor, and even though there was Fat Thor in Endgame, I was even more excited at the prospect of a darker, more mature and battle hardened Thor because of all the people he lost. A broken god struggling to become the King his father wanted him to be, but unable to overcome the feeling of failure and loss. And when they were going to be bringing in Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, I was hoping they were going more serious for Thor, but no…his losses and pain were played for laughs, and he gives the throne to…Valkyrie…because after centuries of abandoning Asgard to drown her sorrows away on top of becoming a mercenary, she is totally fit for the title of King 👍 yup… /sarcasm

I really hate Valkyrie. That character was a terrible idea. And we’re just supposed to ignore the fact that she was a fricking slave trader for centuries on the dumpster planet because… I don’t know, you “feel bad” for the useless drunk? Because Thor specifically made it out okay and the countless randos she brought in before were slaughtered by Hulk off screen? Awful convenient.

@@OsloTime I’ll admit, I was being a bit hyperbolic, but think about it like this. Thor is around >1200 years old, if I’m remembering infinity war correctly. Assuming the Valkyries were gone by the time Thor was a kid and we remove the weird time shenanigans on the trash planet, she had to have been there for a while for no one to know she was alive, and that’s me low balling it. Also, while it’s not explicitly stated, you can tell by the way the Master (Jeff Golblum) talks about her that she brings in guys like Thor all the time, including Hulk. Even if they don’t end up like Doug, it’s still slave trading for the sake of gladiatorial combat.

I like a lot of your takes, and if you were isolating this theory to love and thunder, I would completely agree with you. However, I do believe that Thor Ragnarok kept a lot of what we love about Thor and the MCU while adding to Thors character by giving him more personality, and letting Chris Hemsworth have more fun with his portrayal. Thor love and thunder, undercut everything that was built by giving taika way too much power.

Agreed. Thor 1 and 2 were more true to Thor's story and world than Thor 3. That film was the beginning of Thor becoming a GotG spinoff.

I recently rewatched Thor 1 for the first time since it came out. I spent years thinking it was boring, probably because I remember enjoying Iron Man and Captain America more. I found myself really enjoying Thor 1 this time. I plan to rewatch Dark World, and I'm excited to see how if its better than I remember. I remember liking Ragnarok, but I'm willing to accept that that might be because I didn't like/ couldn't remember the previous movies.

I'm thankful to Taika Waititi. He showed us what kind of story teller he is and what the audience means to him. Now I can safely avoid watching anything else that this joke of a director and this abysmal story teller ever puts his hands on again. These are strong words to say & I am surprised to hear me say them myself but I literally have no respect for this person's 'talents'. I agree with you that he is the sort of immature clown who gets off on vandalizing the things dear to others. That sort of bully disgusts me. He is foul but at least we know it now and can avoid him in the future. I longed for a Thor movie my whole life and he treated my childhood wish like it was garbage that didn't deserve any respect. I'll finish with that as the fiend makes my blood boil and I can feel myself winding up to say some pretty nasty things about this slug.

A lot of people received Ragnarok so well that Marvel just decided they needed more of it and Taika double down. But the problem with “clown Thor” was just that; he was a clown. That tends to get old pretty fast.

I absolutely agree with the title of this and am so excited to watch this because I used to be such a huge fan and I'm so bummed that he's turned into some wacky caricature of himself. He can't be like this all the time, right? I hope not because, honestly, he seems unbearable lately. 😂😂😂 I actually think Love & Thunder was such a joke of what could've been a great film that it was worse (imo) than The Acolyte which is saying a LOT!A 🤭 I say could've been great because there is SO MUCH previous material they could've taken inspiration from and used. The whole thing just got worse and worse. I was like "Oh no, this is baaad." 😔😬 while watching it the first and only time ever. P.S. God that opening clip hurts to watch. A director laughing at how bad something in their film looks is painful. 😮‍💨

The Dark World is my favorite Thor movie and in my top 3 marvel movies (I stooped watching them after Black Panther though). I am not a big fan of first Avengers and Captain America Story.

Never really understood the praise for Ragnarok. To me it always felt formulaic and predictable and I failed to see anything new about it. I remember people were saying it was just as good as Winter Soldier, 🤣🤣🤣. Funny how people accuse Snyder of butchering Superma but are ok with Watiti butchering thor to the point he's a parody of himself.

Waititi is average man, i've never rated him. His sense of humour is like an out of tune guitar, which was terrible for thor because he insisted on cramming it into every scene We live in the shadows was the same, over the top and not in a good way. He's similar to Rian Johnson. Another indie director who came to prominence with estrogen-charged indie flicks, so hey, let's put him in charge of star wars, perfect fit. The arrogance to re-mould a beloved character into your own lazily and cynically formed interpretation is shocking.

Thor 1 is garbage because Thor is literally a 1,000 years old..... hes still acting like a fking child? he hasnt come to understand any aspect of War? Why is he this dumb? Then after 1,000 years of his weird "romanesk accent" goes away at the end of the film lol Did Odin strip that away too? Dark World was just a turn your brain off and watch... theres no real point other than to introduce the reality stone. Ragnarok gave Thor a much need character change but they leaned too far into the comedy.... Thor 4 is the death of this character....which utterly sucks cause Chris Hemsworth is like Henry Cavil....Theyre literal specimen......built to play these roles. You got Thor acting like hes a Percy Jackson character when he should be a battle hardened VIKING god...... yet we never see that.

It's less about what you like and more what the actual character is about. If Superman made jokes every 5 seconds it would be off-putting because that's not his character archetype.
