Trying to "talk casually" with that stress is a pretty easy tell - so good players keep the poker face on both times, rather than talk casually when it's not a bluff and stress-conceal-talk-casually when it is.

I think that's what a novice would do. But a seasoned player can easily turn that against you. It's always a good idea to get a gauge of your opponents' skill levels around the the table.

I agree, he revealed to her that talking about the other hand was the tell but there are some advantages to that. By quickly calling out her mistake, he is communicating to her that "he knows" which applies psychological pressure while simultaneously conditioning her via negative punishment. I think he made the right call if he wanted to make a statement to the table, and her, not to get too cocky and to be respectful. However if it was just a knee-jerk emotional reaction then it was a bad move. EDIT: Updated "negative reinforcement" to "negative reinforcement" per replies.

The guy was looking for an excuse to get out of the pot before she opened her mouth. Look at the sizing. The 6.8K on the river into 12.5K is totally fine but a shove for more than 3x the pot at $45.3K more for $64.6K total, just polarises the hand. It's either a complete bluff like Ace of diamonds and no flush (repping Ace-high flush which the other guy actually holds), or she has like quads or something. That's what I would be thinking. I'm not even a world-class NLHE player although I am a world-class 8-game, O8 and Omaha player. Holdem is boring so little action and everybody grinds every street. Anyway that was a sub-optimal raise with the nuts she should have put in a much smaller raise and made it look like she was playing or seeking info or messing with the algorithm. Like I said she totally polarised the hand and if you have any read on the player whatsoever, she was playing face-up poker. Not an amazingly tough spot nor was the verbiage the defining feature.

The lady then shoves in $45.3K (raise of $38.7K) to make the pot $64.6K, her bet being more than 3x the 12.5K river pot and double the total pot (19.3K) after the man's river bet.

Lets say we are playing a hand and the pot is 100 and you shove 1000 into the pot but I only have 100 behind. The most you can lose is 100 dollars from the shove and the most I can gain is the 100 dollars you shoved plus the pot. Therefore the effective stack is 100 and that is all that matters mathematically.

I've seen it go both ways. I've been on both sides. I've talked when I shouldn't. Didn't talk when I should. Talking got me the result I wanted. Talking got me a result I hated. Others talking has gotten me to make a good call, bad call, good fold, and bad fold. The only real takeaway is if you think that you are EXCELLENT at portraying one thing or another then ok go for it. Practice getting better at it. If you think you're not going to be perfect at it, just provide less info. And honestly? Not the hardest fold anyway.

Tells are multi layered and you do not blindly trust tells. The type of player that does what you suggest will NEVER get a fold in this spot. The type you describe usually talks and talks.. and talks.. it's when they stop talking shit gets interesting. Kendall on the other hand seems like a silent/passive aggressive player. For someone like her to strike up a casual conversation after moving all-in for piles - very suspect. She's basically saying "I do not care about your decision". She obviously does. In general because getting a call on a big raise sometimes is often more lucrative than getting a call on a small raise every time. It's not an exact science, but I have no problem with her bet. Or her check, which also got money in the pot. Also, he only had 17k behind, so he only has to call 17k for a 50k+ pot. The fact that it's "all-in", in this spot, is masking the fact that it's actually a pretty small raise.

Apparently, the meaning of words is meaningless these days. For instance, the definition of "instantly" as in "he instantly folds after she starts talking" and yet, no such thing happens. He ponders for a good long while. One might say an intermitibly long time.
