I am sure that you have already been flooded with information on Dimash by all the "Dears," so the information I am posting might not be anything new to you. The song "S.O.S. (d'un Terrien en détresse)" is originally from a French-Canadian musical called 'Starmania' from the 1970s and is considered one of the most difficult French songs to perform. Dimash is from Kazakhstan. He appears here in the fifth season of Hunan Television's "I Am A Singer" competition. "I Am A Singer" is an annual Chinese music competition between famous and established professional singers. The audience phones in to determine the winner after each episode. It is the same throughout the entire show; 500 with musical backgrounds judge the show by points each week. At 22 years old, Dimash was the youngest participant in the show's history and competed against these professional and top-selling Chinese singers as a 'wildcard' competitor. The competition consists of 14 rounds, lasts almost 4 months, and competitors are eliminated throughout the season. Every performance is live, and no lip-syncing or auto-tune is permitted. Pure unadulterated vocal ability only. Dimash's mother later said that he hoped to reach at least the middle stage of the competition. This was the very first episode of the competition, and Dimash had to go first because he was considered the weakest, given that he was completely unknown to the audience. Dimash’s natural tessitura is challenging, but he’s described his natural placement as “tenor” which he can expand. His Mom’s an opera & Dad a Pop Singer, famous in Kazakhstan. He’s been been musically educated since 5 yrs, so he’s trained & is proficient in many genres. He speaks 3 languages (2 well) & sings in 12, plus plays 7 instruments. It's more like "an earthling in distress." Yes, the song is from a French rock opera, though I've never heard more than this song from it. This was Dimash's breakout performance, thanks to the large viewing audience of the Chinese show, The Singer. It's the first time most of us in the West got to hear him, thanks to KZbin. I am definitely a dimash junkie. At 66 I have never been so affected by someone. It just confirms that WHEN I know, there's somebody totally unique and amazingly Beyond comparison to anyone At least in this century... without checking the others to confirm what l heard from day one...just thrills me, and shows me you, Charlie are real ARTIST. I first heard him about three years ago and I'm so addicted to him and his voice that I haven't gone one day in those three years without either listening, watching, or whatever is out there dealing with him! I just can't go a day without him. I hope you continue to explore his music because you are in for a LOT more surprises! Greetings from a Las Vegas "Dear" (Dimash's name for his "dear" fans). Oh, one last thing,...you will gets lots of requests for the song Sinful Passion. The one most watched is the first time he did it and it was in Sochi.
