NO, she divorced him because he was lying to her about it right to her face. Plus, the smoking was a metaphor for the other things in his life that he wouldn't stop doing and was lying about like CHEATING! He wasn't even cheating for love, because he didn't get with her in the end and it shows him in the same grocery store situation that the affair started with, implying that he might start all over again.

This was a good movie in my opinion...cute, great plot, well-developed characters, etc. and does actually have some good advice for men and women, both single and in relationships. I like what she says in this scene as well. The ones who came here to give others advice on relationships and how to find yourself (mostly aimed at women, which is amusing) rather than just leaving a simple comment...it's pretty obvious some need to explore their own selves before counseling others. As you age, you gain an understanding that this is what life is made of. You can almost brace yourself for when things get shitty, because you know that out of the hell--there is light. It happens sometimes when couples marry early, neither man or woman has time to develop and mature in trial and error relationships. Clearly Janine was more mature and didn't need the same experiences Ben did. Since Ben only had Janine, he wanted to experience more. Even if he didn't meet Anna... Even if he has some kids with Janine... he will probably cheat sooner or later. But he lied to her. Lying is worse. Lying shows a lack of morals and a liar can't be trusted. That's why she divorces him. I like how the end of the movie shows Ben checking out a girl at the supermarket. It's like, he wanted to be free to play games with girls so now he gets his wish. Ana will never get with Ben because Ben lied to Anna also. He stuffed her in a closet while he lied to his wife. So Anna knows his true nature and will never go to him. Women often choose poorly with guys. They choose someone familiar, because maybe they also lack the courage to choose the right one. We're all just people who have lots of messed up experiences so sometimes it's hard to love and be vulnerable. Ultimately the main character Gigi is the most vulnerable so she is (for a brief moment anyway) rewarded with her love (who knows how long it lasts). Also the guy on the boat was vulnerable because he never replaced his lover and stayed true to her.

The only time he was completely honest was when told his friend on the boat that no guy wants to get married because after they do, all they think about is the women they can’t sleep with but even then, when he realized how he sounded and that his friend didn’t share the same feeling, he was still in denial of being a pig. I agree,stupid ending to a movie that's suposed to be honest and brutal. The cold truth is, and lady's listen up! Very,very few relationships start out as friendships. Ex: I had a girl I was seeing who didn't like me that much and confided in her friend. the whole time her friend liked me, but being 15 I didn't see it for a while. After a ton of phone calls and getting to her without the akwardness of me liking her, I fell for her. Since then I have been on the other side, and alone.

Yes women are never satisfied it seems. We are all taught from an early age and even now though that there's a soul mate out there and everything will be all lovey dovey. Relationships are hard, and there's more bad than good just like everything else in life. The imperfections in your partner are the things you should like the most!
