Rian Johnson ruined Luke, NOT Disney. Gawd people love to blame the parent company when it’s Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm has more of the creative freedom. Disney’s mistake was not having someone who actually CARED to be on the planning stages for the Sequel Trilogy. Pablo Hidalgo, Lawrence Kasdan, Dave Filoni, and now Jon Favreau should’ve been in the main creative team, as well as having a SINGULAR (of not main) director who would be in charge of the trilogy so that there’s little to no need for retconning certain things from a prior episode. Hell before the sequels came out a lot of fans shit on the Prequels. Who’s to say that if and when we get the High Republic films would we be like “sequels might not be so bad free all”. And before anyone says anything: I am NOT defending the Sequels by any means. If we didn’t have the EU and it’s long rein of lore that helps add more to the tales of our favorite characters and beyond; if we didn’t have anything other material outside of movies, then it would’ve been a bit acceptable and maybe passable. And don’t get me started on the whole “Rey is a Mary Sue” bullshit. If that was the case Snoke and Kylo Ren and the First/Final Orders would’ve been eradicated faster than Alderaan. Snoke ragdoll “MaRey Sue” as of she’s nothing. She craves having a family and sense of belonging (first Han, then with Luke), and thought that she would’ve been able to redeem Kylo Ren. News flash: Rey failed the entirety of the Last Jedi. As fans we care about how Star Wars is treated, but at the end of the day it will never satisfy every fan. TLDR: Disney may own Lucasfilm and gives it some consultation, but Lucasfilm is firstly responsible for the content that it delivers as they have the creative power to do it.

A Jedi who wouldn't give up on Darth Vader the man who killed his mentor, kidnapped his friend, cut off his hand, helped destroy the jedi order and subject the galaxy to subjugation and terror because he sensed a sliver of good in him. @7Mushrooms74 жыл бұрын
The issue is that this Luke of the new films has nothing to do with how Luke was when originally written for the original films. Since he's supposed to be the same character as in the original films and it happens in the same universe chronologically after the original films, it's bad writing because this new Luke is a total different character with totally different values and someone doesn't change like that in such a short time span and it's not even properly explain why he changed like this nor his old self properly aknowleged his old self. Had they said "this is a different universe where the events on the original films never happened, then maybe people would be more understanding. But it's supposed to be the same character in the same universe a few decades later. The first indication that the whoever wrote these scrips (not just Rian) had no idea what they were doing starts in the first minutes when the main character is surprised that Jedis exist and the world world seems to have forgotten about their existence and victories when Jedis were known in the whole galaxy and WON the fight just 20 or 30 years ago. They're acting as if it happened 500 years ago but it happened just a few decades ago and many people were still alive during those times. Then yes, Luke hiding in an island and considering killing his nephew in his sleep has nothing to do with how his character was writen in the original films and destroys the whole character arc and development of the original films. It also makes no sense in any ways. He was used just as a plot device for some unplanned storyline that destroyed the legacy of the original film and its characters. I rather act as if these films are a separate totally self contained installment on another universe/alternate reality where the old characters are another version of themselves and not as the end of the saga and conclusion of all the arcs. Or maybe even pretend they don't exist lol

Good points from Mark. I like his interviews; I've long said I'd rather see interviews with him than Harrison Ford. Mark clearly loves talking about SW, whereas Harrison treats it like an embarrassment. Mark is a fanboy at heart; he always was, from childhood on. He loves comic books, sci-fi, etc. He once said with regards to his kids buying comic books as collectors' items -- that is, never taking them out of the bag, keeping them in pristine condition -- "What's the point of having a comic book if you never read it?" The sequel trilogy has messed up all the OT characters, but Luke got it the worst. I thought he was treated badly in the Expanded Universe books (kicking those piles of barf to the curb and starting over was one of the few things Disney's done with regards to SW that I approve of -- although I doubt the "new" Expanded Universe is much better -- SW works as movies or TV shows, not as books), but then the ST got its slimy mitts on him. Just about the only good thing I can say about their treatment of him is that at least they didn't saddle him with a vile, emasculating shrew for a wife like the Expanded Universe did.

@evelynnlard6307 Жыл бұрын
@@7Mushrooms7 2 years late on this, was returning to this vid and browsing comments. Harrison isn't particularly fond of Star Wars because of what it did to his reputation. While yes, he's an extremely well known and successful face, (most) people only know Harrison for Han Solo. Which, while he did enjoy the role, does not sit well with him. He's a great actor, and has some wonderful other roles. Bladerunner (old and new), The Fugitive, all of Indiana Jones, Apocalypse Now, 42, among others. But unfortunately, people don't know he was ever in these films, and even some who do only recognize him as Han Solo, not as anybody else. His distaste for Star Wars, as I've gathered, is hedged on that fact that his role as Han Solo saw so much success it drowned out just about everything else he ever did, and to some, everything he'd ever do. Whereas Hamill is more than happy to just be Luke Skywalker. Hamill sees similar, but not identical, treatment. Many people ONLY know him as Luke, though, there is a lot of love for his role as the Joker, of which I am particularly fond of. I think he was a brilliant Joker. Either way, the difference lies in that Harrison wants his other works to be recognized and pointed out to him for their brilliance, whereas Hamill would like that, but really doesn't care - ultimately, he can and will die happy being THE Luke Skywalker, even if that's all most people know him for.

If he refused to return, the movies would still have happened without him. They could have killed Luke off, or they could even have cast someone else. It would have been even worse. At least if Mark played the character, he could tell his side of the story in interviews.

I so badly want Jake Skywalker to become one of those narrative phrases like the Achilles heel for having that one weakness I want Jake Skywalker to be a term for when a character isn't acting like how they would act like the DC EU Batman that's not Bruce Wayne that's Jake Wayne

His bat symbol looks like a fucking square. SW and DC are still my favorite things though.
@MoreLoreThenThereSeems3 жыл бұрын
@@mingchenwei1978 I feel like Star Wars and the DC you are very different cases, Star Wars was really amazing (excluding the garbage 2008 3D one) until Disney destroyed it so thoroughly I'm not sure it can never be redeemed meanwhile DC just had a... "particularly Rocky start" so to speak and then got a lot better but seeing as I don't consider Disneys "Star Wars" actual Star Wars then yes I would agree that I also still like DC and Star Wars

"Ruin" Johnson.
@TheDeathmail2 жыл бұрын
They wanted him to destroy what Star Wars was... Star Wars was originally a complete story about a boy growing and redeeming his father... a fantasy about a father and son's plight of good and evil. It wasn't supposed to be realistic, it was supposed to be hopeful. Sure, a simple act of beating a single bad guy fixed everything... but it's a fictional story. It was a fantasy that's supposed to be removed from reality in some regards. But Disney couldn't expand a story... what they wanted was something closer to a comic book... those things that never end... they want a cinematic universe... and Luke was in the way...
