Sightreading is unnecessarily difficult and really only works well for one learning style (the print learners). I've played for several pro groups and 3 orchestras, none of them expect anyone to walk in and sightread anything. Most bands give you recordings to listen to and you have to write out your own charts. Most orchestras mail the sheet music at least a week ahead of the first practice. Sight reading really only matters in highschool competitions and the audition for college scholarships. Once you're in a college you build your reputation from doing things that have nothing to do with sightreading.
