I am an Industrial real estate broker in NYC. The section about commercial real estate in cities could not be more true. Any office space in buildings has become a major turn off to any business owner that I encounter and the price has dropped substantially. Property developers, who have been trying to develop the outer boroughs the past decade, are having a really bad time right now. While I do focus mostly on industrial (warehouses), even industrial properties with tiny amounts of office space are having trouble being sold. Owners having been doing more sell and leasebacks specifically on the office portions of there industrial buildings just so they can sell it. Corporate brokers that focused on commercial real estate are now trying to enter the other fields, like industrial and residential, because there is no money to be made. While I am not sure of the outcome of this situation I can see it having a trickle down effect on all of real estate, especially in highly urban areas.

I work in an Asian restaurant in the UK, have had the pleasure of working with a dozen Hong Kong chefs and cooks in the last two years. Across the board humble and hardworking, absolutely sound people. A lot of them have left comfortable lives to rebuild from pretty much scratch, I've washed dishes elbow to elbow with ex-bankers and lawyers and never heard a word of complaint while us British boys are moaning our assess off. Respect to the lot of them. I hope more Hong Kong people can get out from under the CCP's thumb and make it over here, every time I meet one I consider them a friend.

If the Sprite commercial is anything to go off of, and I believe it is, that movie would absolutely be worth watching. The worst part about the google $99 a night office hotel thing is that they don't allow outside of Google to visit. So basically, you have to have no family and friends outside of work. Otherwise, it's probably around or somewhat cheaper than SF rent.

I lived in Mountain View last year, not far from where the Google offices are. My rent for a one-bedroom was $2800, compared to $99 a night comes out to around $2900. So yeah, I wouldn't say it's cheap, but it's not at all a crazy price for the area EDIT: Which just makes it worse ofc cause you get none of the guarantees you'd have from actually signing a lease...

Couldn't Google at least make their on-campus rent competitive for housing prices in the area? $99/night or $3000/month should cover a rental house in the area that you could split with roommates. Unless it's gotten even worse since I moved and that's affordable now.

I think alot of people are extremely unhappy that they have to go back to work. Work from home showed people we could be happier. I don't think the government realizes how important it is that overall people are happy. Because I'd say alot if not most people feel dead inside like so unhappy and they don't know why. It's just a overall dreadful feeling. So hopeless. We could all be so much happier if we stop allowing corporations to rule our government. 24:24 I think "blurred red lines" are a fairly common feature of authoritarian states. For one, it will push the public towards self-censoring almost anything that _might_ be something the state does not like. Secondly, it gives the authorities a free hand to crack down on basically whatever they want. But not explicitly stating what is and is not permitted, they can arbitrarily decide on a fly what they can tolerate and what they want removed right away.
