This is what we need in Ghana. But instead of stuff like this people are using social media for fighting and beefing in Ghana
@loriannrichardson76443 жыл бұрын
This is not what is needed in Ghana. The traditional method of building homes is more eco-friendly. Those homes are cooler in the summer and do not require the insulation necessary in container homes. Just because the western countries are doing it doesn't make it great. Many in the west are now learning to build homes with traditional African techniques, and the courses to learn it are thousands for just a week. Africa is ahead of its time, and you guys still dont realize it.

Great stuff. It’s definitely worth exploring, ie container homes but what most of the people you’re interviewing fail to mention is the logistics involved in constructing container homes (machine/equipment intensive) and the feasibility of conveying these structures to some of our lesser developed communities with bad roads in less maneuverable areas because containers can only be conveyed on long vehicles. In the little research I have done, you find that in terms of cost, container buildings become more cost effective when you’re going 2 or more storeys up, but when it’s a single storey structure, with the way containers are designed, you’ll most likely spend around the same amount, sometimes even less, when you go with our traditional method of construction. So I think the advantage lies with going higher, otherwise you’re probably better off sticking with the traditional when you consider all other factors, especially the location of your project.
@sthomasdesigntalent3 жыл бұрын
Yes, containers are great solutions for specific situations. That's what needs to be explained more in container conversations. It's no different than any other material with advantages, disadvantages, scenarios where it's most practical and scenarios where it isn't that practical. Interesting point about the transportation, a topic beyond just the building itself.

I drove trucks for 30 yrs and 5 yrs out of that I pulled shipping containers coming off the rails via "trains." The most popular length is 53 ft w/75% being hardwood flooring. They're designed to hold 50, 000 lbs or more. So, 6-53 ft. container/trailers should be enough for a nice size 1 or 2 bdrm house.
