I have a set of stainless headers for my Falcon. I'll have to get some of these bolts before I put them on. Thanks Jon !

Use longer bolts with a spacer, more bolt stretch to keep tension on.

Better/easier option... Get the ARP 5/16, 12pt header bolts and Nordlock washers. Washers you can get from McMaster Carr....maybe some other places online. But the washers are a 2 piece design, with tiny wedges that jam against each other. The pitch of the wedges is different than the pitch of the bolt threads. This gives you 2 different pitches working against each other, making it virtually impossible to back loose on their own. Been using them for many years on headers, snowmobile manifolds, motorcycles, etc....never failed me to this day. The small head on the ARP bolt allows you to get a 5/16 wrench on with plenty of room and not strip anything....including rounding out that Allen hexagon.

Cool, How do you keep your gaskets from blowing all the time? every time I make a preformance adjustment I blow a header gasket. But, I'm new to the sport of freaking, working on my own equipment. I been working on my Boss'es Cows all my freaking life just so I can buy a cheese burger. No, really, this is an important and troubling issue for my repair work. How much torque do they get on something like a chevy 350 or anything for that matter? - Thx :)

My favorite is that they put the Allen wrench receiver. So hard to get a socket or wrench on those bolts.

Drill and lock wire each pair.Works for aircraft,works for you...Best to pre install and final torque all bolts.Then mark each bolt at the top end flat areas.These are the best hole locations to thread your wire through.Remove one bolt at a time.Punch mark two opposite areas and first drill straight DOWN just a bit.THEN reposition the new angle sideways and try to meet holes at only a SLIGHT curve or you will struggle feeding the wire throuh such a tight curve.Reinstall,TORQUE each one at a time.Lockwire as pairs....

Question, how do these fare with header wrap?
@NashvilleEarlyBronco4 жыл бұрын
Great question, I don’t know. Because of how tight the fit was, I would say they don’t work with header wrap.

I had to replace my exhaust manifold gaskets due to a exhaust leak. But now the bolts keep loosening up. The bolts may be worn down? Should I try new bolts?

I'm sorry, but , many people have been doing other thing like cashing out people at the conveniounce store for the last 20 years and may not understand how tight you are to tighten any header bolt. Are they all the same for a specific make/model & year of vehicle? OR is every application different? The most important thing to do is to know how tight to force in your header bolts. Why, how, where, I don't know. I think you flash said 20-25 lbs, but.. After watching you strip one, I have know idea how tight to insure my or any other header bolts should be. Also, I like the music tune, kool! But spec. info. (for me) would have been more useful). The bolts look very interesting, but there is still lots to figure out for many people who were not born with a wrench in their hand, cause I don't want to strip any bolt. But, I would like a hobby or project other than my boring job someday when I am able to retire, maybe I will have time to correctly learn. But I doubt it. I want to know NOW. :) But, Cool Video. You know your stuff on auto's, I can tell. You made it seem so simple, like a no brainer. A it is very helpful to know about the product. I just wish I knew how tight to torque them.
@NashvilleEarlyBronco2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Each application is different, but most Ford 302 engines the spec is 20-25. These are so much better for not striping. I’ve really enjoyed having them.

@@NashvilleEarlyBronco COOL!. Thank you so very much for your time in answering my question. I would recommend these bolts as you explained their usage very well. I will also recommend your channel to my friends. I think you present a lot of important and valuable content. Again, thank you for taking time to answer my reply question directly. It's always a sign of quality and honesty when someone (like yourself) takes the time to do that.

I put a set on when I did the remflex gasket l. If the washers didnt fit I just gave it another 1/8th turn and called it. The remflex was so soft you torque them down and they go back and hit them with 15lb of torque they still moved so after another torque sequence I called it

Do the fasteners take the same wrench size? Currently my ARP bolts take a 3/8 wrench, anything bigger and I won't have room. These look larger when I paused your side by side
@NashvilleEarlyBronco2 жыл бұрын
They have a hex middle, so you can actually use a hex bit, and don’t have to try and fit a socket over it
