In this video, author and depression counselor Douglas Bloch explains how negative beliefs developed in childhood can lead to symptoms of depression in later life. He then shows how you can replace these beliefs with accurate and empowering beliefs about yourself, others, and the world.

TheAnnas4cats Exactly... I didn’t train my brain to have CPTSD... it was done to me from age 5 for decades... therefore I didn’t develop the tools to train my brain in any direction. This is why many people with trauma histories dont respond as well to CBT. Many therapists just get frustrated and acuse you of resisting. Its like they cant let in that it simply does not work for some people. First time this happened to me is what MADE me fall into hopelessness and despair. It was huge for me when they finally acknowledged depression from childhood trauma needs to be treated differently. I do believe you can heal from depression but not with shallow cliched sound bites. If anything they make me feel worse. I do know I get live one breath at a time and get through the day and wait... because Ive done that already.

Start to think and plan rather than feel. Use your prefrontal cortex and ignore the bullshit from your amygdala. It's the amygdala that is the incessant chatterer. Tell it to stfu once you've done your research on something you want to do and your worst-case scenario is manageable. Do it, and prepare carefully, and just ignore your amygdala. If your body floods with stress hormones go for a walk or dance or cry out the nerves. But don't be the hostage of your amygdala. Pushing through the inévitable anxiety is key. Accept it and run it off. The anxiety will fade.

This video is a simplistic way of understanding yourself on an essential, do-able and applicable level. It seems to address well...the core of the negative issues and directly explains how the negative self talk/image generally evolves and how it can be recognized and retrained. What if we are depressed because we have been intimidated and surrounded by 100% assholes most of the time as children? If this is true there might be no reason to replace "limiting" beliefs. We just have to trust our beliefs and take action. Saying NO is a good beginning, I think. "But your parents always loved you". Did they really? What if our "loving caretakers" were genuine self-absorbed narcissistic assholes hiding in sheep's clothing? My 2 cents: Negative beliefs developed in childhood has to do with emotional withdrawn parents - out of reach. Children are not born depressed. I would like to see a video on Childhood trauma and Major Depression: What is the impact on your self-image and self-esteem growing up among people with no ressources?

My parents give me away right after i was born. I have never seen what my dad look like. I was raised by a 70 years old women who didn't care much about me. These people didn't even bother to get me a birth certificate. So, I'm enjoying living with a fake identity as an adult its really nice. I was neglected 90 percent of the time. I literally raised myself. Feels werid talking about this lol. But yea i always heard men talking about not being allowed to share their emotions. I am a women and i was raised the same. If anything bothered me as kid i had to keep it to myself and 90 percent of the time that women didn't even listen. I always questioned why I am here it makes no sense to me at all. I'm not posting this to get someone to tell everything is going to be ok and all that. Just want to share this with someone maybe it'll make someone feel a little better knowing that at least you have a birth certificate and an identity and at least you had or have parents and they didn't give you away to someone to neglect and abuse you.

If you only depend on medication it's pretty useful to treat the symptoms but with your cognitive behavior it's very difficult to overcome. Impossible! We as a human have limitations and we are not intelligent enough to distinguish what we need to do in able to help our selves. We need other people guidance and help for us to be fully recover.

Yes... you´re absolutely right: Core Beliefs wire the fundamental neurons which actually form your personal environment. (with referenz to quantum physics and even all the stuff the freemasons believe in ) BUT ... what actually is defined as positiv in a society is build up by the "Collective Core Believes" itself FROM the society - this is the main problem of every ethical human being. Our society itself has designed very bad conditions to deal with each other because of our monetary system ( e.a. FED and all the very important videos you can find on youtube ). So... in that case we cannot say "everything is build in our mind" and "we are personally responsable fpr being poor" f.e. THATS the big point which all the positiv thinkers and personal lifecouches forget: "to earn money in this society is based on the internal acceptance of the monetary system which leads to all the bad circumstances we faced on our planet today" Of course there are a few parallel economical systemstheories f.e.the german Andreas Popp and his "flowing money" .. but actual we are living in a world of injustice and ignorance ( no matter what i try to convince myself for being responsable for my environment ). I think ( for I know that all the Core Beliefs concerning our system are results of interlectual examinations and therfore "real" ) thats a good idea to find a Core belief concerning our survival in society which includes the knowledge of the false monetary system AND our capability to deal with it...and the ability to look for ourselves IN SPITE of all the bad emotions "they" want to "install" in ourselves. F.e.: "I´m able to look for myself and to gain enough for a good life in spite of the manipulating bad system I´m live in" ...think: what would you say concerning your "inner problems of humanity" when Hitlers had won the war and it racialism would be an INTENDED social worth !! That would also be not MY fault when I wouldn´t be able to accept this norm !!
@williamvonbaskerville3805

thank you ;-) ... well .. it´s a big topic, indeed... and concerning astrology I must apologize - I´m not very familiar to it ( besides: i must apologize my english for I´m a native german speaker ;-) ) ... perhaps astrolgy influences are given - who knows - its a part of hermes tresmegistos and the free masons are full of this stuff - i think for well known reasons .......but... if we determines influences to much on subjects we can not change, it has a bad taste. Fact: we´re imprisoned in a monetary system which transfers all the rich and real economy whealth to a small group of people who reinforces hte believe in this monetary system - you own static analyses of the last few years will underlines this statement. .. for this i will build a bridge between those "inner believe" psychologists and the people who are critical against our society and believe to all this very necessary topics like 9/11, illuminati etc etc ... I create a new psychologic pattern: the "intrinsic" and the "extrinsic" Corebelief ! ..the inner we can change ... the outer is the Corebelief in our society which is unreflected based in our minds ( f.e. monetary system, advertisements etc etc ). ..when we come to the point of revealing all this Corebelieves and find out that nearly 50% of all them are wrong, we have finally to decide in which kind of sov´ciety we want to live .. ..and this leads to one last simple question: against or with each other - competion or cooperation ... we can´t have both ... we must choose and it´s a lie to tell us that there is only competition possible in this world ... the new system has born in austria .. and it works - it is called "infomoney"

thank you ;-) .... here over in germany we start to work in groups for these topics, because i fear we haven´t got the time to let us fool anymore: the political situations increases against confrontation with russia and the rush of migrants is even more a part of this global agenda. There is no time to be fooled and to believe that everything that every inner pain is just an inner problem - the biggest problems are the corebeliefs "they" implanted us by lying; stealing the history; telling us, that there is no alternative way; constantly distracting informations by media so we can´t get the whole picture. The true enemy is in our society in very high positions of power and it´s all about keeping that power! The only way for us to get our corebeliefs cleaned is to work in groups and to use "swarmintelligence" - why there must be allways a specialist who learned about 1 topic in 30 years? - what about 30 people who learn about a topic in 1 year? .... and they are only a part of the greater group to put further topics together as David Icke said - connecting the dots ! I´m sorry .... Mr Bloch hasn´t repeated .... it was someone else and it was an information about astrology - and this person had deleted it for reasons i don´t know. Anyway: Astrology migth be an interesting theme but it isn´t as useful to find out what is wrong with our world and minds. Be with the topic and forget about EGO credits - just live to serve the truth within a group .... and we finally get to the bottom of conspiracies, our wrong corebeliefs and the way out of it - of course we have to define a new society within a new picture from ourselves ... but why not? Is it so bad that the only power we have is the power about ourselves? to know who we are and what we could and should be in the future instead of greed and power over misguided others? As Dr Steven Geer said: "they are watching us - first we has to be peaceful and then they reveal themselves" I would do the same if I were an alien ;-))

Yes, anything that vitiates separation consciousness is a worthwhile effort. Separation consciousness is the foundation of every tool that the psychopaths use against us (money, capitalism, competition, disinformation, divide and conquer, obfuscation, religion, nationalism, etc.) When humanity attains a "swarm intelligence" whereby he can see that he is ineluctably a fractal of Universal Consciousness, only then will "depression" finally be conquered, and the dark night of humanity's collective soul be over.

My core belief is that I'm annoying, hence I don't have a friend group. At work people have to be with you, so I just do things for them to not be annoying. People complain a lot about other people, at least that's the case in my culture.

Is it true that affirmations should not conflict our core beliefs, like trying to replace 'I'm not good enough' with 'I am good' or 'I am resourceful' and instead we should use some more believable affirmations such as 'I am good at ___' or 'I'm a good friend'? I've seen that in two or three videos but not from a specialist like you. Thanks.

@@CorpusLael I learned that intentions work better in case there is a conflict with the affirmation. So for example when you think "I'm not good enough", you can set the intention: "I am willing to believe that I am good enough" or something like that. This doesn't have any resistance to the subconscious mind. Being willing doesn't mean we immediately have to change, but the fun thing is, that it changes your mindset. You start thinking: "Hey, yes, I AM willing to think about that and how to make it happen". Try it, it works.

So my mum committed suicide when I was 7 and my dad used to use a belt on me if I was naughty or my sister's blamed me for things they had done. He continues to this day (I am 46) putting me down so I try to avoid him. He remarried someone 15 years his junior and she was just interested in getting us out the door as soon as she could. I am plagued constantly by suicidal thoughts and yes I do have a plan. I just don't care anymore. The only thing keeping me going is I have a son whom my soon to be ex wife drove out of our house back to his mother's who faked a suicide after 3 weeks of being together 18 yrs ago and I reported for neglect to social services. He is nearly 18 so i have to put it off. would hate for him to always be reminded on his birthday. I don't want to leave him with the legacy of what I am going through but I have had enough. I don't trust people had a best friend spike me with some form of lsd he brought back from India and since then when I was about 24 I have had severe problems with memory mood and all the rest. Yeah life's a bunch of fucking roses. Angry at life angry at being angry. Sick of ass holes calling me white privileged, if I am privileged you can have it!

Even when your son is grown, it will have devastating effects on him. Things do get better. Don't stay alive for someone else do it for yourself. I know people don't like to hear it but God really does love everyone. He can truly feel that void left by your parents and then some if you let him. I tell everyone start with the words of Christ. Get to know him it can change everything. Trust me I know exactly how you feel. People suck. I don't put anything past anyone. I know all about rage and anger. Don't think you can possibly find anyone that had as much anger and rage as I did most of my life. I hope you find hope and peace. Hang in there don't give up

I was glad that I was able to watch this video, but it put me in the mind of something I learned about in a high school psychology class which I believe is referred to as "Depressive Realism." If true, depressive realism means that depressed people are essentially better at perceiving reality as it truly is than their nondepressed counterparts. To put it another way, how, given my limited information and perceptive abilities am I to reasonably conclude that my negative core beliefs are not very realistic indeed and in fact, correct?

Damien: what you can do is ask yourself: "Is this true?" And another nice question: "Is what I belief right now true for everyone?" If this is not the case then it can't be true as a fact... because otherwise all other people would belief the same thing! Another nice way is to ask your friends about something you belief, ask them what do you belief about... and listen carefully to their answer. And something to trigger your mind to see it from the brighter side is ask yourself this question about anything you dislike: "What do I like about ...." and then just start thinking... Maybe the horrible people in a house are horrible, but their garden might look fantastic. Maybe your boss is not nice, but he does have beautiful eyes, maybe you dislike terror around you, but hey, there are also nice people... This changes your focus... It's a matter of training yourself. It only works if you make it a daily habit.

are there resources for how our inner child and core beleifs make us vulnerable to relationship violence domestic abuse? I have left 20 years of domestic abuse but am still sent into fight/flight/freeze fear and shame when I even hear his name or see and email from him. the fear and shame a d powerlessness has been with me since childhood but he and others have been "hammering" on it since then. I feel if I can heal and make that child feel safe and worthy and capable the abusers "target" will be removed.

are negative core beliefs just a symptom of depression or are they also there when we feel 'normal' or healthy? I noticed when I feel well again, my beliefs about the world change and become generally more positive towards others and myself. However, when I dip back into depression that all changes. Thus, how much weight or importance should we really be giving to our 'beliefs' as they may just be fluctuations on our mood. The greater question here for me is: To what extent should we be influenced by our feelings or mood as these are continuously changing and colouring our perception of the world. Therefore, perhaps, not all that trustworthy :)
@DouglasBloch
@DouglasBloch 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, when people are depressed they see themselves, others, the world and their future in a negative light. They color our perceptions. I describe this in detail in the videos: don't believe what your feelings when you are depressed: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6HUeX-Ah7SFqK8 and Don't Believe Everything Your Brain is Telling You." kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZDPZ6ujns5_js0

i used to be one level of pessimistic Ness I was all about the brighter shade of gray my cup was always half Emoty but what was left was mine and valuable to me. now I cannot seem to find any joy am perinoid with some reason but truly trust no one and am more able to talk about it to strangers and feel and am isolated from everyone as much as possible...i just need to say/ write these feelings to come back to reality and out of denial of the severity of my situation... to some i may be blabbering my husband tells me so all the time. I'm in an 2br appt with him and his 2 sons who are @the moment being nice try face and telling my jealous mistrustful husband stories that are causing great harm. to us and to my well being and stability... after a while they'll go back to being disrespectful and ungrateful to me again they'll follow his behavior. we are both on disability and both boys have serious emotional issues are extremely disrespectful and expect far more than is realistic for two well people they both take advantage of our disabilities w guilt trips and other manipulation and I have no outlet my mental health services are a joke to be polite and we face poverty another major stress factor on all of our over all well beings... it's very difficult for me not to get wrapped up in total despair. i haven't 1 friend left after only 2 yrs of marriage. a lot were no good but it's still left me with no one to talk to without it going back to my husband... all people vent except me. the price is too high to pay. i don't want to be locked back up in another phych ward only to be told I skip out when it's hard and what little I have I'm holding out on. it's toxicity @ its worst case scenario I'm afraid to go to shelters again it was dangerous and if I tell the truth about abuse I'll be in more danger... I need help soo bad but the system is failing and being sucked dry for war toys... we are over populated we can't sustain this and they just keep breaking more people pushing pulling till there no longer sane... and bitch they're sucking off the system.... let us hunt and forge like we were ment not run run till u crack...i want soo badly to work be ok function but the fibromyalgia is cripplingly my hands I got a 3inch bruise from flushing the toilet... and the pain spreads all over i get in the shower and I am burned in one spot frozen in another fine somewhere else frim the same water!!!??? how do fight the world your body and you married family.lost biological and all friends because of mood swings behavior doubled by stress... I'm tired and scared every day what will happen today...full of resentment and blind rage at my situation and those who have really abandoned me... but shut up keep your head down and you might get to "take your 20 pills and go to bed..."I'm holding on for dear life so please do the same here something has to give. sorry to pick puke at you all I need to tell someone that I'm here...take care of you!!!
