Good sleep is just about non existent for post menopausal women. Even melatonin supplements with added L-Theanine and valerian root doesn’t help. I wake after 5-6 hours. I walk 2 - 3 miles early mornings, and skip coffee most mornings, too. My doctor said it may be difficult even in the long term to get rid of the insulin resistance.

Hi Kait, i love all your tips for insulin resistance and have been applying them for a while. My fasting glucose and total cholesterol came down, which made me very happy but my triglycerides went up. Any tips on naturally lowering triglycerides?
@Hertz2laugh3 ай бұрын
Fastest, safest, and most consistent way to lower your triglycerides is to lower your daily carbohydrate intake. A generally effective goal is to eat less than 20g carb per day. Some people are more or less capable of handling carbs so you might be able to get away with eating more or you might have to eat less. Start at less than 20g per day. Do it for at least a month without cheating. Retest your trigs.
@michellepoynter61343 ай бұрын
@Hertz2laugh thank you for the tip. I'm trying to keep a majority of my carbs from fresh vegetables and berries.
@Hertz2laugh3 ай бұрын
@@michellepoynter6134 Remember, carbs are just groups of sugar molecules. Whether the carbs are coming from Coca-Cola or a Carrot, you're still taking in groups of sugar molecules. The vitamins and minerals in the carrots or other vegetables don't canvel out the sugar → you can still end up causing problems if you eat too much sugar even from vegetables.
@michellepoynter61343 ай бұрын
@Hertz2laugh and that may have been what caused an increase in my triglycerides. Last fall I started eating salads and vegetables for lunch every day. I'm really horrible about getting enough protein. I've been trying to eat cottage cheese at lunch.
@Hertz2laugh3 ай бұрын
@@michellepoynter6134 That could be it. Might be worth doing a food diary for a day or a week → just write down what you eat after you eat it, and how much you ate. Then go online and look up those foods and count up how many carbs they have. If you are eating over 100g carbs per day, you can be pretty sure that your elevated trigs are coming from the carbs. If you want your triglycerides to come down, you need to lower your carb intake. Below 20g per day will yield the fastest results, but you will see improvements if you drop to 50g or 30g.

I have been a type 2 for 20 years. I take metformin 500mg twice daily and 5mg of glicazide nocte. My fasting blood glucose is between 7.5 to 9.5. My random which I do around 6pm pre dinner is between 5.4 to 6.2. I have protein and salad with my dinner but my FBG remains high. Any reason for it to remain high.

Awesome vid Kate! What are your thoughts on the Kraft insulin survey? Seems like it may be the gold standard for testing insulin resistance, and catches it very early. I’ve even seen some people who were formally diagnosed, who later went on to have a normal curve after the test, which gives credence that insulin resistance can actually be reversed, not just managed/symptoms hidden
@Hertz2laugh3 ай бұрын
Kraft test is great. ADIPO-IR test is also very good at detecting very early signs of insulin resistance. Fasting insulin is also good. Don't do glucose-based tests if you are wanting accurate information about insulin. Insulin resistance is a safety mechanism, not something that needs to be reversed. Insulin resistance is how your cells prevent themselves from dying from glucose overdose. Forget about reversing insulin resistance. Focus on reversing hyperinsulinemia (chronic elevated insulin levels). If you get your insulin levels down to a healthy range and don't spike it several times a day with carb-heavy meals, your cells will automatically become sensitive to insulin again.

At 65 years old, I take 3 valerian root pills and 1 extra strength melatonin pill before going to sleep. I slept well until about 60 years old, then started waking up about 2 to 3 am.
@HealthCoachKait3 ай бұрын
Melatonin should only be taken as a one off in situations such as to combat jet lag. Otherwise it suppresses your body’s natural production to the point where it will be impossible to sleep without it 🙏 It does come more difficult to sleep with age, which is the irony 🤦♀️
