Janick, never liked his running around on stage (too cheesy for me) then again I was only a Maiden fan just for Nicko which is a big reason I play drums like I do. Also he's just extremely sloppy and has no real "style" that sets him apart from other guitarists, especially his own solos. Also Harris isn't the best judge of character/or talent when choosing band members. I mean he chose Blaze Baley to sing in the 90's, really? And he's also NOT a good song writer, nothing like the stuff Bruce/Smith can come up with. So thumbs down. Haven't liked Maiden since Fear Of The Pork.

Janick is still to this day terribly underappreciated and underrated. The only reason people hated him is he doesn't sound like Adrian. Boo-boo to the haters. The two of them playing together for the last 22 years has been a treat for the ears. Not to overlook Davey. The three of them are a three-headed monster who take no prisoners. I'm glad there are some Maiden fans who get it. Any who sing get it after 31 years, never will. Their loss.

@melovemusic692 жыл бұрын
Yeah he is a great guy but I really believe he should have left when Adrian came back. I believe Bruce made it clear he wanted Janick to stay on if he would come back in 99. Their stuff since 99 other than Brave New World has been poorly produced and maybe it's the 3rd guitar that causes the problem? I just for the most part don't like Janick as an artist. Maiden fans aren't goofy and the way his act is on stage doesn't go well with the persona and dark subject matter of maidens songs. The way the songs are set up they tend to give each a guitar solo and it's too much. Adrian is the best guitarist followed by Dave and they have to cut their grand guitar solos shorter so Janick has his.

Criticism of Janick almost always seems aimed at his solos, which I get, especially over the last few albums where he hasn’t shown the same variety as in the 90s albums. My opinion is his shred can be repetitive, but when he focuses on melody and groove he is on a level with Adrian and Dave (alright, perhaps not quite up to Adrian’s level). Big issue though is that it Seems his song writing contributions get ignored a lot of the time. You can usually tell a song that he wrote of co wrote and it’s usually a stand out of the album. I would even go so far as to say that the signature Maiden sound of the 2000s wouldn’t have happened without him.

His isolated track for the trooper is a harmonised version of Adrian's solo because the original solo on the Piece of Mind album had harmonies. They probably adapted the Iron Maiden riff from two to three part harmony so maybe that's why it sounds so different isolated. But he's not the only one who doesn't stick strictly to what he did on the album for every solo. Dave has been known to change things up a bit too. So I don't mind what Janick plays as long as it sounds right. Better that than no solos at all!

I love Janick Gers , and I always have since he first joined Iron Maiden back in 1990 as a 12 year old. I am glad that Steve Harris did not get rid of Janick back in 1999 when Adrian Smith returned to the band with Bruce Dickinson. Janick Gers has earned his spot in Iron Maiden. He was loyal the whole time in the 90's when Heavy Metal music was in it's biggest decline ever. Janick Gers has also co written a good amount of Iron Maiden songs since 1992. Such great songs as Be Quick Or Be Dead, Lord Of The Flies, Man On The Edge, The Edge Of Darkness, Como Estais Amigo, Ghost Of The Navigator, Dream Of Mirrors, Dance Of Death, The Legacy, The Talisman, The Book Of Souls, and Stratego. Janick payed his dues, and deserves to be in Iron Maiden. The only bad thing that I will say about him is that his guitar solos can be sloppy. The last guitar solo on Hallowed Be Thy Name done by Janick is very sloppy compared to how Adrian Smith would play it. I know that Janick's performances on the stage bothers many fans, but it has never bothered me. That has always been his way into getting into their concerts.

I posted this under a reply to someone else but I wanted it to have its own thread for comments. Some people do think they're lame but I've seen Maiden twice in the last 6 years with very good seats so that I could watch the show and his energy and running around are rarely a distraction and often very fun to watch. Only thing I found annoying was how many times he threw the guitar around his neck for a circle but I was always amazed that he would hit the next note perfectly all while jumping around like he was crazy. He definitely other than Bruce had the most energy on stage and while the rest of the band mostly stood in one place or walked very slowly around the stage it was nice to see somebody other than Bruce look like they were excited to be there. Don't get me wrong every show I've seen was amazing and the musicianship was incredible along with some very neat stages. I saw Book of Souls live and Legacy of The Beast and Janick was a highlight especially when you consider he's one of the older members of the group. Everybody has their own opinion and yours is just as valid but I've always accepted him as part of Maiden because of the work he has done in Maiden and Bruce's solo albums. Really the three guitar sound fills out the songs so much better than the original versions and even Steve Harris himself in interviews has given Janick credit for making his original compositions sound better. He admits an interviews that it makes it easier to play live because studio parts that were overdubbed and didn't get to be played during the live show now have a guitarist to play them. Watching the three guitarists on stage is a pleasure because they trade parts and Adrian Smith has the most amazing smile. All of them share in the fun. I hope you go see a maiden show and don't let Janick distract you too much from what is being accomplished. Maiden fans may not like me for saying this but they're a better band with three guitarists than they ever were with two.

By your own admission...you must enjoy every single film, song, book and tv show because you're not a world class director/writer/composer.

Janick is a super nice guy. I ran into him at Universal Studios in Florida. I noticed him sitting on a bench and when he got up, I kindly approached him. I confirmed it was him and he kindly took a photo with me. No one else noticed him/knew who he was lololol. Only me, and I was already a couple drinks in too.

Poland loves Janick especially. Why? Because Polnad is Janick's family place, and his father Bolesław Gers was a military soldier of Poland and after II World War he visited Poland with his son Janick regularly in the 60's.

I've seen Janick play many times, right back in the early days with White Spirit, then Gillan and of course Iron Maiden. He is an ok player but, out of all the Maiden players I'd place Adrian Smith and Dennis Stratton at the top, even though Dave Murray is the only ever-present guitar player in the band.

Took me a long time to warm up to Janick Gers. First, he came in to replace Adrian Smith, and I was having none of that. But I've come to really appreciate Janick both as a song writer in the band and his considerable talent on the guitar. His contributions to the band are immense, especially I notice his artistic presence starting with Brave New World and every LP following.

A lot of people seem to forget that iron maiden from 1980-1998 were a quintet. When Bruce and Adrian re joined the band, they become a sextet and have remained that way since. So the six albums they have released as this line up have required three guitarists. However, they obviously still play a lot of their older stuff that only needed two guitarists, most of which is the stuff from 1982-1984. It should also be said that he writes far more material than Dave Murray who has been in the band since their first album

Janick has written/co-written some of Maiden's greatest tunes in my opinion. Also, I personally think the triple guitar line up has enabled Maiden to re-produce live more of what was recorded on the albums. Overdubs etc......And despite what some people say about his on stage antics, it's fun and enjoyable to watch! He always seems to actually be enjoying himself and personally, I'd rather see that than someone standing still, looking menacing and bored any day!! But opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one.....

What you personally think is scientificly comprovated. The triple axe formation provided more heavyness, wall of sound and also melodic and harmonic richness to the band. There's no argument against this true.

I had the chance to see him in Bruce‘s band on the Tattooed Millionaire tour. In one of the songs he had kind of a longer solo spot during which he went on to climb on top of the P.A., never for a moment loosing the groove with the band. When he joined Maiden, it was clear he‘d have to prove himself to the fans. But personally I think he gives the other two guitarists a run for their money and kept the whole band from becoming stale and repetitive.

Ridiculous. Maiden has never produced anything better than the music, guitar solo's and everything on the first 7 albums. I love them but seriously, you can't even compare anything that came after 7th Son to 7th son.No original guitar solo written by Janick can compare to the solo's on The beast album,Piece of mind or Powerslave, They are so well composed and melodic as opposed to the more redundant and somewhat repetitive stuff that came afterwards.

The guy is a beast! Very staccato in his playing style (cutting notes short). The best thing Iron Maiden did was keep him when they reformed in 2000 for Brave New World. Janick is Prog, Adrian is Rock, and Dave is the Soul (very Hendrix like, always plays in neck position of a Stratocaster.
@michaeldean72202 жыл бұрын
Love janick but when it comes to the solos I wish he'd stick a little more to the album versions. Varying a little is fine but just sometimes he goes too off piste and it looks sloppy. However, the rest is totally positive. His style contrasts nicely with Dave and Adrian. I have no issue with the stage moves and I actually think he energised Dave Murray's on stage moves. As great as the playing was back in the 80's Dave and Adrian were pretty static. In interviews he always comes across well with a great sense of humour and no hint of rock star ego. And let's not forget he helped steer them through the difficult late 90's when grunge and the absence of Bruce and Adrian was threatening to end their career. He was a big part of the rebirth of Maiden that was heralded by the Brave New World album.
@waynetowers50462 жыл бұрын
Rod Smallwood said Janick is free spirited, not only in person but also in his playing, he rarely plays the same thing twice and is a lot of the time off the cuff, as oppose to Adrian who is very meticulous before he plays, and Dave too who is just in his own little happy world. It's why they sound the way they do. Personally, I wouldn't change anything for them.

Live, he's hit or miss in terms of accuracy. Sometimes he hits the mark and other times he's waaayyy off. Adrian & Dave are more consistent in that regard. As a songwriter and contributor to the band however, he's really good. I don't mind him running around onstage, it's rock n roll after all (Besides, there are other players who are just as goofy, just look at Yngwie Malmsteen, and he's great too btw).

This can’t be overstated enough. Before their post Seventh Son hiatus Maiden had gotten stale and overblown, and Bruce’s vocals suffered tremendously from having to basically carry the entire show as far as stage presence goes. Janick coming in for Adrian didn’t just take some of the pressure off Bruce to engage the crowd but also gave Dave a new lease of life too.
