Cori is a homeless single mom living in a Los Angeles 90-day emergency shelter with her daughter. Cori's 90 days in up on 3/28 is just two days from now. Cori is disabled and cannot work. She received a little over $700 in disability income, but that is not enough to pay for rent and basic needs.
The 90-day rule is a stupid rule driven by government contracts. Who gets their life together in 90 days? While it's frowned upon, family shelters can extend Cori's stay, which is the best-case scenario. It's shocking that the service provider has yet to find Cori housing or would even consider kicking this young mom outside, but I have seen it happen. No one should be homeless, especially young children.
Cori reached out to me and asked if I would interview her. Cori sent a link to this video • Unhoused Artists of Lo... . Watching her story moved me, but meeting Cori and her daughter Cordelia was far beyond what I expected.
Cori was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at age 3. She has lived a tough life. At one point in this interview, I had to change the topic, or I would have cried; her story is so heartbreaking.
Cori's an inspiration. She's been in the homeless shelter system in multiple states, trying to find support. It's mind-blowing that a young mother has to move from state to state to hopefully get the help she needs only to find a broken, homeless services system.
Cori is a talented artist and businesswoman, even against all the challenges that a homeless single mom faces daily. She started drawing on cardboard selling her art to tourists. Cory now steps up a little popup shop on the sidewalk to sell her art and some jewelry that was given to her.
Homelessness is a growing, national crisis. It should be addressed in Washington. Bottom line: Housing is the solution. We need more resources to get folks into housing. Demand action. With your help, we can end homelessness. Click here invisiblepeopl... to tweet, email, call, or Facebook your federal and state legislators to tell them ending homelessness and creating more affordable housing is a priority to you.

About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, childhood trauma, lack of a living wage, or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness.
This isn’t just talk. Each year, our groundbreaking educational content reaches more than a billion people across the globe. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about homelessness through innovative storytelling, news, and advocacy. Since our launch in 2008, Invisible People has become a pioneer and trusted resource for inspiring action and raising awareness in support of advocacy, policy change and thoughtful dialogue around poverty in North America and the United Kingdom.

Remember that ANYONE can be in this position. Don’t be quick to judge. I love that she’s selling her art and that her and her daughter look well! Cordelia is an absolutely beautiful name. I also want to note that she’s doing an amazing job navigating the world of today while having Asperger’s! Just beautiful. I’m in awe.

No she’s not doing a great job! She’s homeless with a innocent baby on the streets, post pandemic with a baby and mental illness. There’s more to this story why she’s not living with family or why they’re not interacting with her. Let’s be real would you be proud of this accomplishment if she was your daughter?

@@TrueMiThompson correction, she has a disability! Anyways, we all are entitled to our opinions. Respect mine! I’m homeless, live in my car with my daughter who has a disability according to the state of Georgia. I am DAMN proud! Obviously there is more to the story. We can’t pack her whole existence into a 20 minute video. Family is usually most people first downfall! People assume that if someone family isn’t helping them then it’s that said persons fault. Such a weird conclusion to me. And I would be proud of my daughter! It’s not about your situation, it’s about what you’re doing with it! As someone who has worked with children on the spectrum and know first hand how hard it is, this young woman is navigating with a good head on her shoulders! This is PART of her story not the end! But y’all rather be negative and judge. Have a good day Ms Rough

Will you continue living like this mindset for the rest of your life? You must grow up. @Heather Thompson For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph 2:8-9 KJB For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth... Rom 1:16 The gospel 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (3) ...how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; (4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: If you believe the gospel (1 Cor 15:3-4), that Jesus Christ, who is God, died for all your sins (past, present and future), He was buried and He rose again, Putting all your faith (trust) in the blood He shed to save you (without trusting your own self righteousness - no works), solely believing on Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross alone for salvation, You are saved & sealed the very moment you believe (Ephesians 1:13, 4:30 KJB) 1 John 5:13 - ...ye may KNOW ye have eternal life... I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. My LTR is from Europe and told me that. You know what I said??? "What rights??? The right to get arrested??? That means that any family with kids who loses their home would end up going to jail and have their kids put in Foster care!!! Way to go !!! IT'S TIME that we, the people stood up to the politicians who make the rules!!! Sorry but enough is enough. HOW COME THE UNITED STATES has MONEY for wars but totally ignores the homeless, the hungry; our veterans who served this country but are homeless and are in wheelchairs because they lost their legs fighting wars the politicians created!!! People they are taking mo ey and lining their own pockets. They use the Medicare system to victimize old people by telling them they have diseases when they don,'t. WE NEED TO STAND UP AS A PEOPLE and make these politicians accountable to us for why they do nothing about the working , disabled, people on social security. Go on U Tube and type in "HOMELESS in San Francisco" See how bad it is there. People we are turning into a 3rd world country. Even the United Nations asked Washington DC why America was turning into one big slum. This is happening in other countries like Italy, Sweden and Germany ,etc. Of all people the Muslim immigrants in Sweden have taken pity on the homeless in Stockholm, Sweden and now serve meals to the homeless there. Amsterdam and Venice are 2 other cities people x annot afford a place to live. PLEASE petition the United Nations to send Every country funds and aid. Camping includes Sleeping outside of a motor vehicle or making preparations to sleep outside of a motor vehicle, including laying down a sleeping bag, blanket, or other material used for bedding. The bill, SB 1610, would also create a Class C misdemeanor to panhandle, or ask for money, with a $50 fine and 20 to 40 hours of community service work, picking up trash on the highways and interstates. There are approx 20,000 homeless in Nashville, many of which are children. It’s a miracle she’s still alive, the streets are mean and the men are dangerous-deadly, trafficking and only god knows what else .. She was diagnosed at a young age to believe she can’t work, that comes from childhood- from parents that want to get a check from their kid and school systems that reinforce disempowering beliefs, but mainly the madness starts at home. My son has worked since he was 17, he’s NEVER been fired, lord knows I worked with him endlessly to build his confidence and skill set. Trust me you can work a job, may take time finding the right fit but just keep at it, if they fire you, so what, keep trying… she can work and still keep her disability she just has to stay under a monthly threshold.. in the US you can’t gross from a job more than $1,350 a month.

If she has SSDI she could get a job. And also priority housing because she has a disability and she has a baby. The shelters she is going to are not doing their jobs. This woman needs supervision, and guidance daily. Without the supervision to ensure daily stability she could be sabotaging herself. Meaning she presents well in this moment, but off camera in her everyday life she may not be functioning this "together". She may have had support, but when you present well, without the true cognitive abilities to carry out executive functions you truly become your own barrier every step of the way. Some people are disabled, but not disabled enough for continuous support... But they also aren't functioning well enough to sustain stability. It's an awful position to be in.

I was waiting for someone to mention this. What the homeless sector does is they give a person a list of referrals. Many of them are dead ends. It’s madness! She makes a little over $700, which is not enough for s place to stay much less a place plus basic needs like food. The homeless SHOULD help her, or any homeless person, but they don’t have the staff. My point is that I didn’t clarify the details of that statement. I know this morning, she has an intake meeting. While I believe she misspoke, even if she didn’t, without help, she would not be able to find the support she needs

I've taken people in who lost their home, I even gave up my own bedroom and mostly live in my van. I hope to find a way to build Tiny Houses on my property. Blessings to this young lady and her beautiful child ❤⭐✌ Are there Churches in the area who can help ?? 🙏❤

@ Michelle Martinez: Nice thought but really that’s not going to help her at all, instead how about sending her some money & asking others to do so as well!

These two deserve so much better, it saddens me that anyone could end up like this. This woman is smart and full of resources, and the “greatest country in the world” has its people living in this state! Thank God she was gifted with her art that gives her purpose and a bit of money, but she should be in a house with her baby. Much love and prayers to these two, I’m sure she is smart enough to make it through. She will manage. They both will. It is so unfair, but they will make it. I’m happy to send them some small donation, because you made it possible. I’m so thankful for what you do with this channel, and giving the invisible people of society a voice.

This is absolutely heartbreaking and shouldn't be happening here!! Our gov gives millions & millions to countries when we should be taking care of our OWN PPL here! This is infuriating and so sad I'm just speechless at how our people are treated 😢 God bless her and that beautiful baby and keep them safe always 🙏🏻❤️
