you r right. Stripping away the immersive parts like music or maps are the last straw. I for example am a emotional buyer. If i get hyped my bank account suffers. Why would i want a skin now if i dont link it with a positive experience. We cant look at the board in a year and think about how bad parils was. I stopped playing hearthstone after the release of United in Stormwind and started again with the release of Whizbang's Workshop. One of the first things I noticed was that they have released a lot of hero skins in the mean time. First I was excited to see many of them in-game but after a while I got tired of them because I was missing the original heroes with their iconic voice lines. Fits to the point of the video that I know the story of these characters which makes them more personal. The new portraits just don't have enough character for me.

I find it baffling that Blizzard genuinely thinks we're stupid enough to not see what they're trying to do. You try to screw players and take away things they enjoy and have enjoyed for years; you lose money. Its as simple as that. Hearthstone's decline in revenue is the death if a thousand papercuts and 90% of those papercuts were self-inflicted.

Hi my name is wang and I am a former hearthstone addict. I was spending at least $500 a year on hearthstone at a point just to stay relevant and have all the cards that I wanted. One day I realized I was spending way more money than fun I was having. It was hard but I quit the game, only allowing myself to play some battlegrounds here and there. It's been a few years, I'm sad to see that things haven't seemed to improve at all. In fact they're charging more, trying to push even more spending.

I think flooding the game with so many cosmetics also had some negative impact. Back then when there were very few hero portraits, custom portraits seemed something really premium and having one in each mega-bundle was significant and could be an extra motivation (at least for me) to purchase it. Then they added a bunch of free and paid portraits, more premium ones. But the quality of the portraits in mega-bundles didn't improve. Technically, they significantly decreased the value of mega-bundles beucase the portraits that used to be premium now look like free portraits. I have ~150K dust, so paying $80 just for 80+10 packs and 2 legendaries doesn't make sense. From my perspective, mega-bundles used to be the best value, now they are not even close. They could be better if included Legendary portraits, for instance. But Blizzard is too greedy to do that. I would likely pay $80 if they included something valueable, other than just cards/packs. But I want to pay neither for current mega-bundles, nor for very expensive cosmetics separately.

Honestly Duels was my only excuse to NOT disenchant wild cards, not only that but it was also my FAVORITE game mode, as someone who started playing the game during Kobolds and Catacombs the Dungeon Runs were my favorite part of the game and so when they finally made an arena game mode similarly to dungeon run I was hooked, I just recently got back into HS and was incredibly disappointed to see it was removed. Genuinely I still love the game but it was quite the experience making those decks and choosing from groups of cards rather than what Arena is.

I think too many people don't care that much about HS anymore and play this game casually now. I used to pre order every mega bundle. For the last couple of years I just buy the Tavern Pass, and even that seems unnecessary now.

Blizzard just rubs me the wrong way and they have for a while now. Whether its Overwatch or Hearthstone it feels like all they care about money instead of the community that adores the game. The issue isn't game boards, or animations, or cosmetics available in the shop. I'm tired of monetization being based on players spending thousands to have access to all the cards/assets from your game. Charge 50$ or 75$ per expansion and give me all the cards so I can play whatever I want. I'll play more if I have more cards. Right now if you spend 100$, you only have a chance of getting the cards you need to make a good deck, and nevermind switching to a different deck. The game isn't worth more than 100$ every 4 months. So in the end, I'm spending 0 because there's no incentive to spend any amount up to 100$.

Actually, Microsoft is putting all the resources and the moneys for AI development, they have significantly decreased the productivity of it's other sectors. In 2 weeks, they had a DDOS atk on Azure and the big mistake on the CrowStrike update. So, I think that they are also cutting resources for VG development

Left shortly after Dr. 6 meta and came back at the start of Whizbang's. Played for a bit and gg'd out just before Perils. The amount of clearly obscene cards they've put in the game that are just instant "I win" cards. I remember back in the day when Sylvanas was considered top tier, and now Sylvanas with Rush that discounts down to 0 is considered good but not broken. I remember when Yogg was a coin flip to play, required you had played several spells and also had a very high chance of completely backfiring, and now new Yogg is literally an on-demand Mind Control or board clear with a 7/5 body attached plus two spells that are overwhelmingly likely to be positive if not game-winning. Titans in general are just ridiculous. They're pure upside with super powerful effects, one of which battlecries PLUS they have an extra effect to go with it like discovering legendaries or summoning taunts. They require no setup and just auto-include into any deck that isn't aggro. And I don't even get me started on that overloaded POS Reno Lone Ranger. Clears the board AND ONLY THE ENEMY BOARD, nullifies all of their deathrattles, upgrades hero power, gives armour and completely tempo-blocks the enemy player from doing anything next turn. I genuinely cannot comprehend what gibbering, vine-swinging peanut-brained NUMPTY TAGNUT thought that card was okay to put in the game. I genuinely hope the dev team continue to work on Hearthstone because i'll never be going back to it and I would prefer if the troglodyte MONKEYS in the balance department remain safely contained in their dying game, and don't contaminate other dev studios with their fanciful idiocy.

I havnt playede HS in a few years, yet i keep trying to stay in tune with it. And seeing what it has become, is kinda a feels bad moment, dragged out to last longer than a moment. I remember when the only ways to spend money on the game, was buying packs, hero skins, adventures and preorders. And now? You have skins that are variants of a diffrent skin, you have skins for your skins. The games monetization has seemingly shifted hard towards cosmetics, probably because the CEOs and others though they could crank out a bunch of skins to less effort than adventures, and earn as much as before. Yeah adventures had a slight problem of cards gained through them wasnt accesable through other means, but that can be fixed with a small change. Like say that the normal card is craftable and the adventour gives you a golden card. But, it clear where HS is going, with the lack of a board, and music plus the mention of pets, HS seems to be going towards a complete customize / cosmetic monetezaition. You are going to be able to choose whate board you play on, from a collection of boards that are free and the rest you have to buy, then hero skins and card form, normal, gold, diamond, signature, all of which can be bough in the microtransaction store, yes you too will be able to play a diamon loot hoarder. Then of course the card backs. And then you boot up a match and get OTKed by the current meta deck. Because game balance doesnt force players to buy more card packs, so they can craft the meta deck.

I don't care about boards. My main issue is we have a reporting system and excessive roping isn't on it. I don't care if they only get a 30 minute ban but it's ridiculous how many games have been ruined for me by someone being a jerk and just roping out without any obvious reason to. I won't quit HS because of the boards or how lukewarm the power level is, or getting rolled by OTKs, I'll quit because the playerbase is incentivized by a lack of consequences to maintain its trash tier rating.

The game is also just unattractive to play at the moment. A ton of OTK decks or infinite unkilliax. Or some pirate aggro DH that kills you turn 4. Why would i pay money to play a degenerate deck or get obliterated when i dont adhere to the Meta?

It's not Microsoft, I slowly disregard Blizzard games for many years since from Warcraft 3 refunded. In the past, it was auto buy, now it's on watch list to maybe buy. If not for Microsoft taking over, I would ignore this company already.

I never got into other card games just because Hearthstone is/was so pretty. The cartoony artstyle, the boards, the voicelines, the spectacular card effects, the sprinkle of story told in pretty high quality. All this made me stick with the game for years and years. I admit, when bad news strikes, I tend to download another popular card game to see what’s up. But hearthstone continues to wins me over on looks. If however they now cut that as a “superfluous cost”, well then what differentiates you from the hundreds of other card battlers out there? You’ll lose me and possibly (many?) others.

To me, decreasesing the number of achievements in each expansion has been the single most negative change, lately. Achievements are my main source of joy in the game, and in my opinion they should increase, not decrease.

I think the primary problem (if there actually is one) is that standard is starting to feel a lot like wild. If people wanted to play wild they'd primarily play wild, which they do not. That's where the Hearthstone team should risk and innovate. Maybe they need a standard power level reset of sorts with lots of dust etc given back to players as compensation. They may lose in the short-term but they will gain in the long term. Every other problem is likely secondary. It's not something that most people care about too too much, but maybe out of the 5-6 little problems they may care for 1-2 of them a little bit ...which are added on top of the main problem.

While i agree with you. I feel the need to point out why this wont happende, loosing in the short term. Alot of companies dont think long term, so loosing money in the short term to gain back even more in the long term, doesnt exist to them, its only gain or lose on the short term. While a reset of the main game mode and a re-focusing on how to monetize would be great, its just not going to happened in a way where blizzard thinks they will lose money on the short term. And thats the only term they think in.

i have a stupid idea. what if instead of buying packs to get all cards why not introduce a pass? one time purchase, lets say 40$ or (idk 5k gold, 8k gold?) you get all cards (per expansion you buy it again) and you can still use real money or ingame gold for cosmetics. since i get few cards for my money i havent bought expansions for real money for 4 or 5 times in a row now, i simply use my gold to buy packs. it is not good for blizz and not good for me. i find it absurd that you would spend AA or AAA game for an expansion and still dont have access to all cards for that expansion

Reducing the cost of the game will lead to a significant decrease in revenue. Your concept will only work if gold disappears or 100 percent of players regularly buy this $40 Pass. But even in this case, Blizzard makes less money. With the current approach, the failed pre-orders of Perils in Paradise brought Blizzard $17 from each player, although during the Scholomance they received $33 from each of my subscribers. Plus, cosmetics are very, very ineffective.

The current abnormally low interest is more likely due to the not entirely successful theme, scandals and secondary mechanics. Your approach has potential only if sales decrease several times and remain low for a long time.

I believe I'm in the minority here, but I don't believe card draw is random at all. The constant top decks of perfect answers after someone makes a big board is just too predictable. Happens to me, and happens for me. I don't want to keep playing a game I don't feel is fair. Anyway, I've completely quit since the new expansion. If it seemed like this changed, I would very likely come back and they would have more of my trust.

I really dont understand why blizzard dont allow us to buy old portrait that we have miss. Sometimes 1 or 2 came back in thebstore, but i have waited for a particular portrait for years.. and nothing. And for the regain trust question, i would want a banlist in wild with change every month. It doesn't seems that hard to introduce, and it would shake the meta each time.

Perils in Paradise turned out to be a very fun expansion for me and i want to get the tavern pass, but the absurd prices in Brazil are out of control. Imagine paying 200 dollars in Sand Castle or Eliza Goreblade. Or 90 dollars in a Tavern Pass. The prices used to be fair, since i've got several Paladin portraits, bundles and 3 Tavern Passes in a row. From Nathria onwards, i've stop buying the passes because i didn't like the theme. But now its different, i like the expansion but the prices are to high. I can afford, don't get me wrong, but they are charging too much for it.

Same. Best thing that happened to this game - as a brazilian - was the localized discounts around the pandemic. Ever since they made the stupid decision to roll it back, I have been limiting my purchases far more just because it sounds absurd, especially for a non-physical product. And I say this as someone who still purchases the BG pass to play with friends and buy portraits that I find interesting. In another point, I'd never purchase Rafaam portraits, as an example, if it weren't for cinematics and solo adventures. They made a great job of properly building the character to the point the idea of playing as him sounds fun.

Remember when the twist format was introduced? I do. I remember thinking I was going to able to play the old expansions I loved. The nostalgia died very quickly once new and very strong cards were introduced. My favourite expansion “explore un’goro” was destroyed by the new cards and I stopped playing the game all in all.

What should Blizzard do to regain my trust? -Bring back Succubus -De-censor Jaina Proudmoore (this one I could ignore) -Introduce the old Wild mode that has all the cards but only includes nerfs the cards received while they were in Standard, not the nerfs received while they were in Wild. I played Wild exclusively because I hate nerfs, but I'm fine with some tweaking while they're still in standard. -Let us buy time-exclusive cosmetics in the shop. This means, that I'm probably never gonna get back into HS. I spent over 500 bucks a year on HS (not even to build Meta-decks, just to build quirky gimmick stuff I came up with by myself) and dropped it after they removed Succubus and after they started to nerf cards in Wild. The nerfs in Wild were really the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

I agree with the idea that the game is in a good place. I agree that some cosmetics have become better (especially 3D skins). Each player loves Hearthstone for different things. Management uses this for their own purposes. With their post, Blizzard managed to calm down part of the community. But look at the trend. First, Fireside Gathering was removed, everyone was indifferent. Then Duels was removed, most players also remained indifferent, after that Blizzard began to cut off piece by piece. Cinematics, music, board. In addition, I heard that regional voice acting is partially disappearing. Our passive position allows management to gradually destroy the game. Next time, something important to you may be removed from the game. In the video, you can see the consequences of these decisions. I'm not a Blizzard hater. I did this during the last expansion a few months ago. I had the impression that even though you buy the Mega Bundle, there are still far too many cards missing. In addition, no new archetypes came out at all, but the same eternally boring Cancer decks like Odyn or Reno were played forever. There was simply a lack of new fun cards. It was just boring and the last addon was the first time in years that I didn't buy any more.

This expansion I left the game, there's no fun anymore, nothing good to get, nothing interesting to do. Just face that ridiculous aggro decks or combo oriented plays.

The game has been in decline for a few expansions now, I do understand that you have no hate towards blizzard or HS but truth be said, OTK and combo decks that kill you by turn 5 without possible counter and power creeping and lack of patches and balance changes for a long periods of time was the main reason I and many quit this game I refuse to support HS team with the same mentality that they have since Crossroads, till they go back to the real HS game spirit I doubt they will be able to keep this game alive

Maybe it's a "fault" of Diablo immortal. They are just focusing on way more profitable game and started to giving up on 10 year old game. Maybe its one of the causes 🤔

really as a player thats always on top of the ladder and playing this game the right way and dont being a dumb idiotic casual I DONT CARE! I play the game with music off, I dont even recognise the boards and animations are useless too. so i like that the money i pay doesnt get wasted to bullshit i dont even use or recognise! Personally, I am more interested in gameplay than gameboards and animation. If cutting back on "bells and whistles" and greater monetization of skins, pets, and such allows the game to thrive, so be it. I won't be alarmed unless the game itself becomes "pay to play." I am a "free-to-play" player, and I was able to hit top 100 legend in Wild, as well as the Diamond 5 plateau in Standard. As long as this remains the case, I will continue to support the game.

they have also tried to remove golden animations from cards as we have seen in the Titans expansion like forge and titan only have a slight glow on their abilities and new forge art if they could of got away with it might of happen more often

Yeah, that i hated really much, especially the forged token and cool titans effects/Tokens/weapon and ignis-weapons...they stole us the golden animation from so nice cards, the titan set was incomplete!!

Not trying to be a blizz apologist or anything, i hate the current direction of the game. But im pretty sure that was because they were also making the wild/twist-only caverns of time "set" and due to the extra workload they had to cheap out on the golden animations in order to make that set. (Please correct me if im wrong about anything, like the timeline! 😅)

@@mariusschumann4071 I fully agree. The caverns of time set was a failed experiment and it came at the cost of good golden animations in both the titans set and Caverns of time set which sucks. Especially considering so many titans cards could have had AMAZING looking golden animations. That being said, i can at least appreciate that they tried to do something that has never been done before in HS. It was a shame it was... "undercooked". If they didnt rush that set, then they wouldnt have had such a large workload, and we could have still gotten some amazing golden animation in both CoT and Titans.

I can’t believe they took cards out of my account. Cards I PAID FOR were just disappeared out of my account. They were mostly Death Knight cards, and the ones I really Noticed missing were the Legendary Death Knight cards I once owned. That can’t be legal.

I got a new job and would love to start buying pre-orders, but I can’t support the awful management of the game. The design of the Tourist mechanic means every class has a REQUIRED legendary to play half its cards, a lack of which meaning your cards have half the utility they should. I’ve had issues with Blizzard for years, I was in love with Overwatch before watching it strangled to death, but they do tend to just make things continually worse, in ways that still surprise me somehow.

the only thing that impacts me is the weekly quest change: i now need 2 weeks to finish them. i do not care about boards or animations or music, i only play default card back and default heros and non-golden cards. also only standard and tavern brawl, everything else except for wild can please leave the game because they are not hearthstone. 0 money spent and i will never ever pay, not even if i got all past and future cards for just one cent.

I've been playing this game for 5 years, and I've spent around 30 euros in it. I couldn't care less about music, videos or adventures. I like the game, a cheaper cost and a more adult artwork will make me pay for it.

I am still new and started right as Wiz came out. I spend some money at the beginning for a few packs to get me started and I like the tavern pass. This time however the tavern pass has nothing on it I want to get at all, so I kept my money there. I was going to buy the Pre-order but this theme does not appeal to me as much. They did a teaser video that was fine but it is not as fun as it once was with the new cards. Power creep is out of control. I like the cosmetics but we don't need as much as they are churning out. I'd prefer more fun and rewards for playing. Then I would be more willing to spend money for cosmetics and Diamond and Gold cards or portraits.

I bought every Tavern Pass except for the first one and PiP because the Disconnects are INSANE on mobile. If they can get my disconnects down from 80% of my games to around 20% or less I will buy the Tavern Pass again but no reason to put money into a game I barely get to play.

Hearthstone is of course more than standard , do we have any data on how much Battlegrounds are bringing in revenue as it also contains cosmetics. Personally for playing for quite some years now - I have put my money there

I'll do it in bullet points and elaborate a bit bout my presence as a HS consumer. I mostly buy The Tavern Pass and some skins and not very competitive (I get frustrated easily) and mostly am not very smart but just buy the cards based on theme. To answer the question I have a few points 1: Even the casual as me can notice the meta is kinda annoying Rogue exclusively just creates random cards and Warrior just gains like 50 armor and it's not very fun... (and I suck in general and my decks aren't very... good) 2: I feel not earning (very much like 8 xp) TP points or quests via solo play options is ridiculous you can like ccgs and not enjoy playing against people... 3: I enjoy cosmetics but I feel it's really hard to earn free ones cuz 90 on tp is hard to get some ppl have a short attention span... And they hardly ever give 'pay 1000 gold for a skin' and I think they need to increase methods besides TP to earn gold to really make sleeves (500) and the rare what 8 of 500 skins (1000) cheaper

This is just a stupid idea, but my guess would be to help monetize the game better. Is to sell cards individually, which need to allow trading between players and let players develop their own market for those cards as well also make it harder to obtain packs. In order to increase the Rarity of card. Unfortunately, essentially, it is play to win motto. As long as the game focuses on fun gameplay over making a winning meta where one deck is the only reason why people buy to play, I'm certain the game will not die out.
