I'm no expert in the kitchen, but last year we grew N. Georgia Candy Roaster Squash/Pumpkins and roasted them in the oven; filled our chest freezer with bags of Pumpkin, corn and other stuff from our garden. This year we have loads of Butternut squash because of the current conditions and it can be used in lots of things.. I really enjoyed the entire family working together making this video and the one doing apples.

Another way to preserve pumpkin is to dehydrate it. As a kid I helped mom cut the pumpkins in one inch horizontal rings, peel and slide on to broomsticks which we hung from the porch roof. On cool days we would put the ends of the sticks into the backs of 2 ladderback chairs placed around the heating stove.

In addition to recipes that I'll use the puree to make people food, I put a tablespoon of pureed pumpkin in my dog's food each day; great fiber for her digestion. I also used your suggestion and put a measured portion in zip lock freezer bags for my deep freezer. Flat bags of premeasured puree is so smart and does not take up a lot of room in my freezer. Thanks!

Hi, I have always made a puree out of my pumpkins, But I can it, put in a canning jar, then water bath it. But I also just add cinnamon & nutmeg to it. Then when I need the two cups, I canned into the jars, into pumpkin pies, I add the Carnation evaporation milk, & a little bit of brown sugar. Then add it to the pre-cooked pie crust, then put into the pumpkin pie into oven. Cook at 350 degrees, for about 45 minutes. After cooking add either whipped cream or Cool Whip.

Good job! I always toast the seeds and in fact, I toast the seeds from all of the various squash, including zucchini (I leave mine on till they are huge - they store well and I bake alot of zucchini sweets for freezer, plus Zucchini marmalade). However, I just wash them, then sprinkle salt over and then toast. Going to have to give your way a go. My preference is for the canned pumpkin because you can drain it better and so the puree is drier vs freezing which quite often gives a watery product. But again, my preference. I like the pumpkin fried in butter and then sprinkled with brown sugar as a side dish.

Very nice video indeed, I especially love the roasted one and the cookies. I would suggest to use vinegar instead of bleach. You know how your raspberries go mouldy in few days after they have been picked? Well I have learned from my granny to give them a vinegar bath - 1 part vinegar and 15 parts water, let them sit in it for 5 minutes, don't rinse them, let them dry out naturally, and then put them in a fridge in a glass container lined with a napkin. She said it kills all the bacteria and fungus, so I would think it would work for pumpkins too.
