Arvind brother I think you also have to tell Maitreya that the amount of land and resources needed to produce food for the animals to make them big so at a particular time they are ready to be cook are very high or you can say it is far more expensive than to only produce food for ourselves. If we can produce our food by doing a little than why first make food for animals and then consume those animals and not just only produce our own food and directly consume it. 1 plate of rice, beans, potatoes would get you approximately as full as 1 plate of meat. It takes only one cycle of planting to produce plant plate. It takes many cycles of planting to produce meat plate since animal requires many times to be fed to grow.

It won't what Maitreya said is partly correct. By luxury he meant, on doesn't need to cultivate his food or grow animals to food. We are living n luxury that some people do this working and we have the option to choose the food.... If you didn't have the luxury you will be growing food on your own and will need to eat food whatever is possible....if you follow the vegan ideology there you will not be able to survive.....

Purpose of every life is to reproduce no difference if it is plant or animal. When we eat a fruit or vegetable or seed or stem we are destroying it or not allowing it to continue life or reproduce or create the new generations. This is the same when we are eating an animal. Even though we humans doesn't feel like we are hurting them as evident in animals but the truth we are. We doesn't feel that's not the truth. that is only because we are comparing our feelings only to animals. Plants don't feel pain as our perspective. For every living being if we are not allowing them functions as they are evolved to, we have to admit that it's their pain. Emotional aspect is according to our understanding of pain in our perspective. When we understand this, we cannot differentiate plants and animals on our sentimental view. All living beings depends on others beings for sustain life. It doesn't make a difference what we are eating, the only thing is, is it helping us to survive or not. Humans and every animals evolved by eating what they get in the environment they live in. So we should eat what we get and what we like to eat. One cannot say that, eating meat is not moral or eating veg is moral

Maithreyan is broader in understanding the issue. When you depend more on plants, more people have to work on the field. Also its difficult to produce plant based food for 7 bnillion population. If you are eating more plants, somebody on the other side losing their plant share and they have to depend animals. Also for production of plants, you will have to kill insects, birds, and animals attacks the field. That's the reality in rural india. When you are not directly killing the animals, you are indirectly killing animals by the hands of farmers and people who don't get the share of plant based food. Also when the veganism expands, it will focus on animals and will loose its human concern and will act against human beings who eat animal food. Like when the cow politics exists, they kill people to pretect cow. If the veganism expands, and when the upper class, and people with luxury can afford this ideology, they will make it law in state and punish those who are not (able to) following it. Hence veganism is the option for people with privileges. Don't make it universal.

Even if plants feel pain.. (according to me they do, but certainly not proven as either true or false), and i respect them.. but the point is, if we dont eat anything, we will also feel pain and die.. Survival is painful process.. and its up to us if we just blindly live for taste, ignoring other life forms.. or sensibly choose our food.. And ya animals who eat other animals, are doing it for survival, not for taste.. Our body is both habitual and adaptive.. if we eat only non veg, and suddenly shift to vegan we may feel little discomfort, cravings.. requires determination and consistency to change, though i did it at once successfully.. The feeling of pain is subjective term. It is a neural reaction which supports evolution. The evolution in plants have different mechanism. We all evolved from cyanobacteria.. and all have a common anscestors.. No differences between plants and animals. And that is how it works. In kerala 97 % people are non veg .. all around world more than 90 % eat non veg.. If all people becomes vegan.. where you will cultivate rice, wheat etc for all those people?.. you have to destry forest for that... where the wild animals in that forest will go?.. it will come to villages and will eat humans.. where should chicken, goats, cows etc should live?. If its not economically benefitable humans wont take care of them.. they will eventually transferred to forest and wild animals will hunt them and it will be more painful for goats, cows etc and eventually all of them will die faster.. the reality is higher majority of animals, trees, plants etc will be distroyed if all humans become vegans..

Looking at the comments below - I felt compelled to comment here - the option to choose being vegan does come with a convenience - you only choose not to hurt a selective set of life. This definitely is a noble thought to be able to live without hurting others - but likewise it does come with some form of identification. One might opt to use clothes made out of skin from animals and but not consume animal flesh. And some other person might be more comfortable to consume animal flesh than use clothes made out of skin. Aravind began his debate with exploitation of animals mainly around food but I am not sure what his views are around exploitation of animal skins and organs for human life and luxury. Does veganism only focus on food? Or it focusses on way of living? And veganism if it does focus only on food - you cannot ignore the political aspects of it especially in an Indian context.

Veganism is not about food. It’s about a moral way of life that aspires to cause the least amount of pain to all living creatures as far as is practically possible. It is compassionate, ethical too. And it is possible because we have to be the change that we want to see in this world. Leaving veganism aside, there are millions of vegetarians in this world for many decades. If this is natural, then veganism can be a reality too. I am a vegan of over 30 years. My life style is simple and the least expensive. A life without cruelty as far as possible, a life that is not expansive, a life that is very healthy for 72 years - how can anyone say it’s an illusion and not possible? That man seem to be living in his own bubble of illusion and not wanting to face up to reality.
